Goth Rock
See I am gonna have to dig out some of my old albums - Cradle of Filth, Sisters of Mercy, Metallica, Guns'n'Roses - that's one good thing about house changes - you find all those things you thought were lost!
Like Iron Maiden too - my ex used to play at some of the same venues, but never at the same time unfortunately.

The Fields Of The Nephilim were awesome and without a doubt by far the best live band I've ever seen and god knows I've seen loads, hundreds ! They've just done another album and its quite good. If you like the Nephilim check out This Burning Effigy, veru good !
I've seen the Sisters a few times and by far the best gig was Crystal Palace with Depeche Mode, really good. They've been rather disappointing most other times and were crap at Wembly in 92.
Now the Mission seem to be one of the best live bands ever and can even make Wembley sounds good so go and see them if you get the chance.
Yeah the Slimelight is still going strong. Not many goth places left.
Funilly enough though was down in Bournemouth for the Sunseeker Rally and its full of little alternative kids diluting the overwhelming torrent of townies !
I'm off now to listen to some Combichrist !

I think the only really landmark albums that gave us something truly new recently which can compare are -
Fear Factory - Demanufacture (I know Soul came first, but Demanufacture was IT)
Machine Head - Burn My Eyes
Strapping Young Lad - City
Korn - Korn (single handedly started nu-metal)
Slipknot - Slipknot (forget the kiddie tag, these guys are so far ahead of most in creative terms IMO).
Exhorder - Slaughter in the Vatican (where Pantera got all their ideas from)
Miss Kinky - lookin' good!.........

When I used to live in Portsmouth we had a big metal rock scene (centred around the Air Baloon). Aah, many a happy time spent headbanging and drinking copious amounts of Jack Daniels (THE archetypal rockers drink) with the occasional trip to the Electric Ballroom or The Underworld. Alas, the scene (in Portsmouth) died and trying to find a decent rock pub now is nigh-on impossible.
Never did manage to go to Nottingham Rock City (having said that i was always at gigs - e.g. Metallica 7 times and counting).

Think it was a miss wet tee-shirt night as well.
Took my ears days to recover from that.
