Not seen a test on an E46 325i auto to comment then......

Are you remembering the 190bhp-ish E36 325i now then ....

Which isn't really anything to shout about, but not "that" slow, just adequate.....they are just too lardy to make use of the power.

well, if I intially mentioned a 190bhp version 325, it could either

And last time I checked, the 2.5 323 is slower. Point being..The thread title "WRX outpaces an e36 323i Coupe. " is not surpising, if a lowely XR3 could keep up!

Fair enough, you didn't say you were talking about an E46 325i Auto though ....as per the thread title (E36 ) I took it to mean the E36 model 325i with 192bhp.
The 323i was a 170bhp 2.5 litre with reduced bhp from the older 192 bhp 325i.

Stock E36 325i with 192bhp versus a stock 130bhp XR3i, I'd say the BMW would be quicker though

Just for interest though, I'd have a look at the E90 325i Touring test that Autocar recently did if I were you............

I'm sure that E90 would be no lighter than your E46

Well the touring is 1 estate in a fleet of 6 saloons of various ages and guises (325, 330, 530 528 etc).

Last time I checked E90 generally, was a heavier car...infact 330 E90 is only a few kgs lighter than a 530

Well the e46 325 tips the scales at around 1550kg depending on spec, e90 probably follows suit. Don't need to rely Autocars tittle tattle for that lot...it's all on BMW's website
