With cold air induction Procomp carbon and a decent big bore exhaust 20bhp increase is well within its realms.
But to mod the wee saxo without the suspension or the brakes 4 pots at least is a bit risky, so when yer at it six speed gearbox, uprated clutch and then the engine mods/rebuild with maybe a supercharger flung in or a turbo to be like for like, and a new ecu then take on the scoob, but sti would be fairer as it would be pushing 200+ brake, and that dreaded power to weight ratio into the bargain.
But all in £6000+ of mods without a lexus light or wide wheel in sight, its 15" rims would be fine. Nice if you got the time, I would rather now just buy a car that can straight from the box.
Modders no matter the marque all have the same dreams, read a scooby forum to see the evidence. Any car no matter how humble can be modded and give the owner a smile on his face.

Ex had a 98 Saxo VTS full stainless system with decat and green induction kit, I was in our MY99 UK Turbo, at the time it only had a decat centre and backbox. The Scooby was much quicker off the line but with the two cars rolling in 2nd gear going from a 30mph limit into a national speed limit single carriageway I did not have the confidence in the scooby to be able to overtake tha VTS they are rapid once they are rolling! Now I have done a full decat, panel filter etc I think I would have no probs getting past one but you never know what mods a VTS might have!

OMG.....
After initially laughing myself 90% of the way into a coma i had to think back at past experiences.
I owned a 1.8vti civic and that would quite happily with 180bhp leave the saxo driver wondering why he wasted his money. I cannot believe claims they will keep with a scoob. I drive a 94 WRX and i'm quite new to scoobs but even still i'm sure the UK versions are quicker than the snails?
The fastest car i could keep with were things like 325 beemers and the occasional Civic type r. I had the respect not to humiliate myself racing impreza's ever since i was on the end of an Evo demonstration.
Each to their own but i hold faith in the subaru badge.

I have got a saxo vts as a runabout(sti7 aswell)and p reg classic before that.Could'nt believe how slow the vts is compared to both scoobys. The best thing in the saxo is the handling only in the dry though.

The guy is talking cr8p!!
Saxos are fast little cars,I had one try it on with me a few years ago whilst in my vr6 corrado.Left him for dead and theres no concern that a uk impreza would leave a vr6 corrado on a average uk road!

Had a brush with a VTS a couple of weeks ago exiting a roundabout onto a NSL dual carriageway - he saw me behind him and nailed it. So did I
I was reeling him in, albeit slowly. Had I been willing to go to silly speeds I would have caught and passed him. Sanity prevailed, though
That was in a remapped Octavia vRS - 216 bhp/225 lbf.
The Octy has now had further mods and now runs 231 bhp/251 lbf. I think that it would now be a different story

You old boys make me chuckle.......... 160bhp no weight, rapid little car ...... But oh no scooby must be quicker and better ......
Of course non would admit that on a race track where it could be put to the test that you would loose .... Not me, someone else maybe, but not me ........
Give me a VTR and i'll kick half your ***** ........

Why don't you put neon washer jets on as well, guarantee you'll beat him then

Why are you here dude?
Whilst we are at it I had both a 1.6 and a 1.9 pug and niether are a match for a standard scoob never mind mine.
As for a Saxo... laughable pure and simple

Saxo VTS = 935kg therefore with 160bhp we are looking at about 170bhp per tonne .... worked out without calculator
Scoob = 1250kg (ish) and 220bhp = 175bhp per tonne ..... again no calculator
All irrelvant as on a track its down to the driver........
Daz ,........bring your scoob to germany in a month or two and lets see how good you are fella ....

question is here, is a 160bhp saxo going to stand a chance at keeping up with the uk turbo scooby??
When I had my standard vts I played with several standard imprezas (classics). 0-60 was always pointless but once traction issues were out the way they could only slowly crawl away. They'd still beat me but not by much. However a decat on a classic shape scooby frees up some considerable extra grunt and that would be enough to see off a saxo and probably a 160bhp one as well.
However, don't think a 160hp saxo will be slow. I raced a 160hp 106 gti at crail in the S2000 and really struggled to pull him in after I'd fluffed my start. I was faster but only just and my s2000 is noticeably faster than standard classics.
Take him on - your mods will see him off If he has any alloys greater than 15" you'll beat him even easier. If he has ice he'll seriously affect his pwr too. Most saxo drivers make mods for 145bhp(ish) but then add a sub, big speakers, a bodykit, 17s, old bags of McDonalds and some 17 year olds school girls in the back and wonder why they can hardly beat a VTR.

VTS is 930kg standard. Put some real power in them and they fly. I took on a supercharged one at crail when I had my 275bhp classic and he was hauling me in real fast as we crossed the line. He'd have passed with more sapce.
