Saxo VTS vs UK Turbo Impreza??

I was challenged on another forum, that a Saxo VTS could give me a 'good run for my money'.

The guy has a full exhuast system on his car at the min, don't think theres any other major mods at present. Yet he said by the summer (when he is hoping to have 160bhp) he will be able to sit with mine & the bf's UK Turbo Impreza with full stainless exh system, decat, induction kit, dump valve.

If you read the posts in the thread below there is about 4 pages of crap!

http://www.jon44w.co.uk/forum/viewth...=63894&page=17

What do you make of this...personally I dont think a 160bhp saxo would perform anywhere near the scooby and theres no room for comparison in the two cars! The fact he doesnt even have 160bhp in the saxo yet, but is making these claims already, is more the laughable matter!!:cuckoo:

yeeeeeeeeeharrrrrrrrrr!

SAXO PAXO BOYS!!

Where's my wip!!

GrahamG 07 February 2006 12:40 PM

Just read that. well..

having owned a saxo.. yes i know!! anyway i only had a VTR. it was a quick little car. THe VTS is a lot quicker but i would say about as fast as a sport.

u can take alot of big cars down a B road vts on very good setup will nail them an thats not using 2 sides of the road either but come the day a vts whips a very healthy civic vtec hitin 160hp+ on a straight an a type r i would sell the type r on for defs crx 16vtec is the equivalient to a type r civic due to the weight cam'd an remapped vts will stand a chance tho
an putting my vts against my old glanza boost limiter removed and was std i would say vts would beat it to about 110mph but my glanza had a bigger topend due to no speedlimiter which i clipped 149mph before having to break for other private road users

PMSL @ that thread :cuckoo:

A Saxo is a car that most of us real performance people would use to go to Tesco's with :freak3:

Can't be bothered to respond tbh, so sick of idiots who ain't got a clue and spend thousands of pounds just so they can keep up with our standard cars

WRXPete 07 February 2006 01:08 PM

He's talking about beating cars at the 110 to 149mph mark....please, this isn't really driving...what about in the twisties etc.

I had a VTR before my Impreza...loved it to bits, nice bit of grunt, responsive steering, and you can chuck it about a bit, lots of fun, but an Impreza it ain't!!

corradoboy 07 February 2006 01:09 PM

I like how he says he would compete up to 110mph. I have been known to corner at 110mph, so come the straight where will his $h!tty little french biscuit tin be :lol1:

slammedmind 07 February 2006 01:14 PM

if a saxo couldnt keep with my old 1.3 starlet then he has no hope against a scoob, besides whats the point in him carrying on like that?

Not a very nice comment. Scooby owners spend thousands modifying their cars and then take on Porsche/Ferrari's so why is this any different ?

And I use a Scooby to go shopping in so my real performance car doesn't get ruined.

Clare85 07 February 2006 01:26 PM

question is here, is a 160bhp saxo going to stand a chance at keeping up with the uk turbo scooby??

Gutmann pug 07 February 2006 01:37 PM

In short yes.......

I cant see a uk scooby with 208/215bhp absoloutly wasting it to be fair, It would be a good race, but dont expect to kick his arse.:wonder:

The dreaded power to weight will come into play!

i realise power to weight is an issue here, but would the mods ive listed in the first post of mine not add a few bhp to the std 218bhp?

SCOS 07 February 2006 02:29 PM

Agreed, a 160bhp lighter car with less transmission loss will stand a chance in a straight line, BUT from a stand still or round any sort of corner, the Saxo will be out performed again and again.

Just all this talk of Scooby slaying really pisses me off. I've had faster cars than my current Scoob, but I hate all this pub talk from little boys who think an exhaust and air filter makes them the fastest thing on the road.

They should also learn to drive.

That's the scary part, half of them have big(ish) power engines, but are running round with stock brakes etc. I've seen it so many times, you'd be foolish to race as I am willing to edge that the scoob will be infront until you manage to break and then your rival comes and parks his car in your rear seats:freak3:

Fair comment.

Was having a pop at these boy racer types who really don't understand what makes an all round performance car. People need to educate themselves before popping into Halfords for another big bore 4 :lol1: .

Trying to keep up with a better, more expensive car is what modifying is all about, but you can't say a Saxo with loads of mods is in any way better than a fully developed 4x4 rally slag?

I find that in all car clubs, there are many people who give absolutely false bhp claims and claim they can keep up with the Starship Enterprise, when in fact, they ain't got a clue about what makes a very fast road car.:Whatever_

PIE CJ 07 February 2006 02:39 PM

hate break this to you all, my old vts was 133@wheels :) and i used to play with my mates 02 plate bug eye... wrx type uk or dummit like that...

and from say a 25mph rolling start i wud be still up close to 100mph :)

which considering the difference in cars it was a laff :)..

i reckon a normal 220bhp ish scoob will struggle against a lightly modded saxo. saxo = made out of paper tissue and plastic - hance its light weight..

DARKSSLASH 07 February 2006 02:47 PM

So an impreza carnt keep up with the starship enterprise:cry:

Dont underestimate citroens. like it says above tissue paper and sticky back plastic. I had an ax gt and that would surprise a lot of bigger cars. My favorite was the finance kids in there saxo vtrs

PIE CJ 07 February 2006 02:49 PM

no but a saxo wiv a cherry bomb can i think everyone agrees on

lol

only kiddin ;

Had the same sort of mods as you about 4 years ago on a MY00 turbo 2000, and came up against a 5 Turbo with 150bhp. Off the light I wasted him, but as I slowed for the speed camera he caught me up, and from a rolling start, he was all over me in a straight line, thats why im careful against light powerful cars.

I dont think you will have a problem against a 160bhp Saxo, all I was saying is that you wont waste him, But the lad in the Saxo has nothing to lose really, if he beats you, you wont hear the last of it, and if you beat him, at least he lost to a faster car with more power.

To be fair I would tell him to F**k off. and take it to a track or down Santa Pod in a safe environment.:thumb:

Gutmann pug 07 February 2006 03:02 PM

DRIVER / POWER / WEIGHT

all issues ...... wait till he has 160bhp then book the track day of your choice.

Out of interest I watched several 172/182's realing in and passing scoobs at Bedford on Saturday. Does it mean they are quicker, no not really just might be better drivers.

Having owned a 106 GTi (VTS in disguise) a couple of years ago I could honestly say that they are rapid little beasts and would give a good race in the hands of a capable driver.

This one was going so fast it lost it's paint!!

Had a 106 GTi myself, I dont think it was any where near as quick as a standard scoob, but it handled pretty well, I did get cained a few time by Civic Type R's.

What mods did it have to make 133 atw?

Not suprising as a bugeye is probably only 200 atw and a damm site heavier than the saxo
