Never got much other than mild understeer from mine, unless it was really wet, and even then you had to be quite brutal The Sierra always steps straight away into a nice slide, then the transfer box wakes up and sends a bit of grunt forwards helping you to hold it Of course the big fat torque band helps too

My gearbox went stuck in traffic, the bearing in 3rd gear disintegrated According to the head of my local dealer's service department they have a bit of a problem with the exhaust boiling the 'box oil if the car's stood still for any length of time. Took 79k miles for mine to do it though

I know - if you want to be picky why not include the Scopio 4x4 too? I was Just pointing out that it is messy when it does let go - anyone following watch out for that oil slick - Note "drivetrain", not "driveshaft" - as the Gearbox is different though - as my cousin found out when he bought a Cossie 4x4 with a "rebuilt" box which turned out to be a bodged XR4x4 unit. 380bhp on a cossy box is bad enough

The only saving grace for his gearbox was the slipping clutch lol

Fool! Don't you know anything? The oil heamorrages were design features, the leaking oil is thrown all over the chassis by the rotating bits and this stops the floor from rusting away. This in turn meant that Ford could skimp on the underbody sealer

On a serious note, the gearbox thing was a known problem right from the beginning, that's why the 4x4 Cossie was so long in reaching the showrooms. You can stick more power through an XR box provided you've had it rebuilt properly with decent (i.e: non-ford) components Plus you can't beat dragging a gear lever half the length of a car's cabin just to get your car into neutral

Ahh, nothing beats Ford's ingenuity with their chassis corrosion protection system.

I employ a similar system on my Land Rover....unintentionally

I also forgot to mention the added bonus of permanently lubricated rear tyres
