Other runs were very poor

15.6
15.4
15.9

All at about 92mph terminal

It was quite busy, not helped by huge delays

5 speed on the WRX. Perfect for 30-80mph though as only need 1 gear change.

Has anyone else run a newage PPP on a quarter mile, if so what sort of times did you do?

I think high 13s is the target for a newage with PPP.

Lots of room for improvement.

You hooked?

Get it looked at, sounds nackered.

You should be killing a Cupra!
Again, a Subaru owner thinking they are the fastest things ever !!!!

A chipped Leon Cupra should be hot on the heels of a WRX PPP, no problem, this just proves it, yet again.

Good on the guy for posting his times, and that of the Cupra

Well I didnt like to say it but the guy with the Scooby posted some pretty poor times and still won. So much for the Cupra,,, chipped and couldnt get in the 14's...

On the road though once moving the Cupra is quicker, Santa Pod is a slippy surface and not really good for powerfull FWD cars to post a good time. I managed a 97 mph trap speed in my Hartge Cooper S at the Pod but just couldn't get the power down properly so only managed a 15 sec pass....The Pod surface certainly is far more difficult to get the power down than on the road the times I have been.

The Impreza obviously has better traction with 4WD, it won fair enough but for a so called fast car the trap speed was pretty rubbish.

It's already been said in this thread a rolling start the Cupra would be the quicker car

So the Seat was quicker once moving than the scoob with ppp. I assume that means it would beat a std new age wrx all ends up?

My best run at Pod with a PPP'd bug eye was 13.98 @ 96.7

BUT the PPP was the old style piggyback chip which on a RR only delivered 220HP, 234 ft/lbs! bit pants compared to the 240/260 it should have been.

I've since had a remap, now at the 'quoted' PPP figures but I've not really improved, best being 13.96 @97.2, when I get my act together I think 13.7 should be doable going to pod on 26th Feb..

Rolling start, traction blah blah...

The raced against eachother at the strip and thats that.

You could analyse the timing slips more closely and I'm sure they'll be some form of consolation there somewhere for the FWD believers.

Dont think that having AWD makes the car rapid from the start. 60ft times were rather poor and easily accomplishable in a FWD with a decent driver.

Be careful as there are some FWD cars out there - Fiat Coupes for example, which are more than capable of giving you a really hard time on the strip with similar power and are most certainly quicker to 100mph.

Good time for the Cupra imo, theyre heavy cars! Consider this your trial and error sesson! Low 14s should come easy.

My first run in my standard 02 Bugeye WRX was 14.6secs with only a back box.

After a full decat and Tek3 I got a 13.7sec.

Only ever been up the strip twice and they were both really sympathetic.

You can bang on all day about x,y,z what if i did this, that the other. At this speed, in this gear, blah blah blah, but if i'd changed later at 200 revs higher...

1 car won, 1 didnt. Thats all you need to discuss. 4wd can be a disadvantage as launching them can take a lot of practice if youre not used to it (and with burning clutches an expensive lesson).

Simple point for me was a remapped Cupra allegedly pushing out 260, 270? plus couldnt crack 15 seconds. Laughable.

BOB mentioned the Fiat Coupe and its worth noting a std Coop generally manages 14's, a chip and 13s is 100% possible (and has been done).

Just to make you laugh.....

Back in the days when I used to run all the time at SPOD (a number of yrs ago), I managed a 15.something in a 165bhp RST. What makes that even more laughable is the fact that the clutch slipped in 1st, 2nd & 3rd and I only managed to get any form of flywheel grip in 4th. Passed through the trap at a little over 60 mph!

Regards,
Shaun.

I beat a Noble MR400 on my last trip to SPOD in a lightly modded Type R i still watch the video now so it is all down to driver experience and whether or not you can put the power down

I went to santa pod last summer first time ever.

best time was 14 sec,s at 98.47mph in a 1999 uk classic.

only a bit of fun so did not rag the clutch, not good start,s.

Very hot day and i had a full tank of fuel silly sod?

had a race with a black leon with gunball 3000 on it

his was remapped, quick car it got 14.4 at 94.37 not standard.

It,s all on the day how much you push your car.

ps, I beat 2 skylines and 4 other scoobys and a evo 6
with my times that day not bad 4 a uk 2000

Thanks for all the responses guys, although I didn't want to start the usuall arguements

Just to put the record straight the Cupra is not an R, and has been rolling road tested at 210bhp flywheel and 180 atw.

All of which begs the question, what the hell is wrong with my car

I can't help but feel that I've shelled out £1600 for very little in terms of increased performance!

I except that some of my poor times were down to my own inexperience, and I can shave a few tenths off, but there is no way that I can get that car under 14 seconds. It just runs out of puff, at about 80mph.

Anyone got any ideas on what could be wrong, or what I do to it to get some better times?

Thanks

I was there on sunday, saw a few scoobs there, I was in my mates golf r32, he only managed two runs due to the VW siccorocoococo (spelling?) losing its antifreeze causing the strip being shut for approx one hour, then after that they only opened one lane and the queue for another run was far too long so we left. He managed a 14.6, then 14.9, only had the car 2 weeks and first time up the strip so wasn't too bad times, couldnt believe how slippy the start looked. Even saw a few pug 106 gti's spinning all through 1st, 2nd and finally gripping half way through 3rd!

It was fairly hairy out there....great fun though, I'll be back there very soon, especially now I've got a time to aim at.

We were at the front of the cue when there was that big hold up late on, lots of grumbling going on around us. Good spill though managing to write off an entire drag strip

Many of you have no doubt already read this guide, but for anyone who hasn't it will make interesting reading. Note in particular what it says about low profile wheels, and tyre pressures towards the end.

I wouldnt worry about it, so much is down to conditions on the day, state of the track, driver, blah, blah..

Like I posted earlier my 220HP PPP'd WRX ran 13.9, now it's remapped to 265HP and I still run 13.9...but it is a much quicker car for sure

Just enjoy and aim to beat your best next time out!
