In a straight line, on a cold dry day, with good fuel, above 50mph... Need 300bhp to really worry I'd say.

Surely with 300 bhp it would be to much of a handful for the chassis, and I agree the conditions need to be right.

Yes - I reckon the standard chassis would be in tatters+scary experience with 300bhp. Good cheap thrills though

300 BHP 9-3 from Maptun whacks out 300= lb/ft from 3-6000 revs. Should spank a boxster if you haven't torque steered into a ditch first!

Where do I get the Maptun from? Will it do my MY06 9-3 Aero?

http://www.maptun.com/suppliers.php?cy=str_greatbritain

Problem is there's not much out for the 9-3 SS yet. - Only stage 1 type products at the moment.

This is most power I can find at the moment: - Speedparts/BSR PPC

oops - that'll teach me to read the whole thread. Hopefully there will be some serious kit out for the 9-3 soon.

Abbott are showing an TD04-18T turbo - Or you could source from mitsubishi direct.
http://www.abbottracing.com/2003/tun...-3_upturbo.htm

You'd need a remap but the 18T is good for 340+bhp in the old 9k Aero so looking at some good gains on the 9-3 but will probably be limited by fueling. You'll need a bigger exhaust (2.5" is now available) and it's worth emailing Maptun,Nordic etc if you are serious to see what they can do here as they may have some maps already done.

Hmm re-map ey, i take it you don't need any supporting mods i.e exhaust/filter etc for the stage 1...???

Thanks for all the info, picking the car up tomorrow, cant wait...

Yeah generally/historically:

Stage 1: Chip and air filter
Stage 2: Chip, filter + cat back ehaust. Minimal increase over stage 1 (same mapping as stage 1)
Stage 3: Chip, filter + full exhaust with big downpipe. Big increase due to being able to up the boost. (more aggressive map)
Stage 4: Usually big I/C, injectors, bigger turbo or combination of.

Have fun!

Sounds good...

I think i might start saving for the stage one as that really does take my fancy...

The car's got about 128k on the clock so won't go overboard on the tuning, after all i did purchase this car to save money and to try and get me to kick the modding addiction...
