why am I not losing weight ?
Ok, I am vegetarian and have been for 20 years.
When I wanted to get back to my leaner self I merely cut down drastically.
I banana and dinner (evening) each day.
I'm 5ft 9.5 ins. I was 10 stone 11lbs.
After about a year I was 9 stone 4lbs and can maintain that with 2 meals a day with 3 glasses of wine a night.
Occasional blowouts and vege junk food too.
I ain't young either.
Willpower I suppose and my waist size is what it was when I was 20.

Eating less will starve your body and it will begin to store what little food it gets. Eating little and often keeps your met stoked up and burning, think of your body as a furnace, keep the fire burning with good quality fuels.
Cut the simple carbs a little, move to more complex carbs (oats in the mornings, granary bread for lunch, brown rice etc), ramp up your protein intake, if you generaly clean up your diet and stick to your exercise then the fat will begin to shift.
Put simply calories in - calories out, if you are burning more calories than you are taking in the results will be seen.
Drinking loads of water will cut down on any water retention you may have, basicly your body will see its getting enough water so wont bother storing as much, this will also result in loss of weight (not fat, weight). I used to drink 10litres a day!
All assuming you dont have any underlying medical condition of course, get that checked on!
Dont take any of that as gospel, its my understanding of whats needed to acheive a slow and controled fat loss. worked for me 2 years back when i shifted 5 stone.
Just begining a cut down myself, fat winter, lean summer

Joined the gym, and doing 4-5 1 hr CV sessions a week.
Lost 6 pounds since starting 2 weeks back, feel much better and loving it. Just another 40 odd pounds to go

PS Sean, aren't you taking the 205 weight loss a bit too serious now

Do the British Dietetic association know what they are talking about?

Well spotted tho... Age has a lot to answer for doesnt it...
I suggest you get the flu and a bad cough....I lost a stone in 8 days because of this
(don't really do that...I was ill, and you only put the weight back on afterwards).
I think cutting some of the fatty food out will help. I started going to the gym 5 times a week back in July/August last year. Cut down on almost all of the bad things I liked, and went from a starting weight of 105KG (16.5 Stone) to 83KG so far (13 stone)...3.5 stone in 6 months isn't bad. Would like to lose 1 more stone, then I'm happy

As a personal trainer I meet people all the time who say 'why am I not losing weight?' and why cant I get bigger. Its really simple. Looking at your diet its a poor quality mish mash of processed Carbs and a bit of fatty protein. Replace your sandwiches for wholemeal pittas, replace bacon and potatoes for scrambled eggs and dont eat any Carbs after 1700. Just a pot of cottage cheese before bed works a treat.
And have a look at your routine for the gym. Different bodies respond to different things. Ill happily knock up a routine and diet that I guarantee will have a stone of you within a couple of months(thats quality weight loss not crash). Equally if you want a stone or so of muscle thats harder but equally achievable. Its all about eating well, working hard and sleeping well?
My two pence not the law!

I've been following my missus diet, she is on the slimming world diet red & green days etc etc.
To be honest I still eat chocolate, drink cordial, went out on a drinking binge & a meal Thurday & a curry last night.
What I don't do is mix food types, keep bread, rice & potatoes down to a minimum & don't drink pop. I eat loads of steak, bacon, eggs, low fat sausage, mushrooms etc etc. its great.
I have lost 11 pounds in three weeks - 17st 3 - now 16.6....
I eat sh*t loads and the slimming world diet works for me....

more cardio work would loose the weight, but just cause your weight hasnt dropped much doesnt mean there hasnt been an improvement ???? lifting weights wont loose weight it will tone up plus if you were mostly fat before you would actually gain weight as the fat turned to muscle. plus are you now lifting heavier weights ???? and is there a difference in how your old clothes fit ??? you cant go by weight alone. i would always take my pulse and go by body fat as well
OK, I haven't read all of this thread so apologies if what I say is garbage.
I am 5'8" and weigh about the same as you - 11'10". Luckily I am in great shape, very little fat even though I'm 36.
However, I have been doing weights for the last 23 years, and if i didn't I'd either be a skinny runt or a lard ****. When I was 18 I was 8.5 stone.
At the mo. I have a 42" chest and a 32" waist.
Basically, as far as I am concerned your weight is not a problem.
Everyone knows individually if you are overweight, in my opinion its a 'feeling' you get as to your general condition.
Some very good advice has been given here, avoid the **** food, drink plenty of water and exercise at least 3 times a week.
Now and again you can food/drink out, but not all the time.
Good luck
