I agree it is not 'our' problem, we have insured our 'wrx300' as a 'wrx300' so we have nothing to worry about.

This thread was born out of a guy who has a WRX + PPP, who is pissed about the insurance and is justifying this against a WRX300 which is mechanically WRX+PPP....

But as we have found out there is a code for a WRX + PPP now so its not really an issue....

He just needs to let it go mate instead of bothering us contented people ...I say why ruin a perfectly good lawn because some stray dog claims there maybe a bone buried under it somewhere

Indeed.

But I think the registry thing sounds like quite a good idea...

ie

WRX300 chassis: 27 : 1st Owner : WRX-Jo <website piccie link maybe ?>
WRX300 chassis: 52 : 1st Owner : Flynnstudio

Good idea/bad idea?? anyone?
Sounds good to me!

Anyway....

He quotes 'PPP was optional on a WRX300!!!!!!!!!!!'

I accept that it didnt roll out of the factory with PPP. I also accept that PPP was not always fitted from new as the vehicle had to be registered to swap out the ECU and sometimes this was done at first service.

However, I do not accept that the WRX300 had PPP as an option!

The brochure quotes power and torque figures with PPP (does not mention optional). The Subaru web site used to echo this, though at the moment this page seems to be conveniently unavailable..

I have a letter from Subaru UK stating that my WRX300 comes with PPP as standard. There is also an old thread that covers this topic completely!

So please all WRX300 owners, stand up and be counted and tell me if you bought a WRX300 with 'optional PPP'......

Marky

I got my hands on a new WRX300 July 2005. I was told that the motor came PPP and took the dealers word. I have since spoke to friend who states that the motor has to be PPP by prodrive (his was) and therefore mine may not have been done. He (the friend) questions the double tail pipe on my motor and reckons he has only seen a single tail pipe on all WRX300's as this is a mod that has to be done, is he right?

PPP is fitted by the dealer NOT Prodrive or Subaru...but it's inclusive in the spec...if it's not on they're sh*tting you bad style..

Yes, you have a single fat pipe - not the twin pipe...also under your intercooler you'll see a blue hose instead of a black hose...and there should be a blue WRC/Prodrive certificate of installation with the reg no and chassis no on it - oh and it will REALLY go like stink from 3000rpm and begin to tail off at 5500rpm...and it will sound really nice, deep and burbly instead of really quiet and tinny

If it's a WRX300 and it's not installed yet - there'll be one sat at prodrive with your name on it

PPP's are done by the dealers - and I'm sure they all have single exhaust pipes - get back onto the dealer and give him hell!!

These 300's do seem to cause a few problems........

Nah, us 300 drivers are a lazy bunch - that 6 gear stuff is far too advanced for the likes of us.

Anyway, why would we want to "down-speed" to a slower vehicle...?

etc

.....

my car's faster than ur car etc etc

Nope, its proof if ever that was needed that 300 are the ones to have.

My opinion is in no way effected by the fact that I have one.

I would ask for some money back along the lines of:

1. the difference in cost between WRX & WRX300 insurance cost for 6 months;
2. 6 * 36ths (3 yr warranty) of the charge for installing PPP as a separate option (£1600..?)

Let us know how you get on & the best of british

I'd go for something they can 'write down' BUT that the general manager can personally authorise - cash is going to be hard to put through the accounts and will receive major resistance because it will need to go to the Dealer Principal or higher so you'll be fighting an uphill battle but a set of prodrive springs or 3 delfi gauges and a pod supplied and fitted at their cost will be easy to 'write off' and invoice to the original sales invoice (ie hide amongst the profit of the original sale!) and be within the managers abilities and you can say this gesture of goodwill 'MIGHT JUST, and I mean JUST convince you that you can come to terms with the fact that you have not truly been able to enjoy the BEST 6 months of your car.'

I reckon if your nice but firm you'll get at least one of your offerings...

Realistically you want to leave that place with a smile on your face - his job is to make that happen...

Thanks again, first time I've used scoobynet and I'm really impressed with you guys.........to be honest, I feel a bit (a lot) stupid and should have done my homework. You have to trust folk in this life otherwise you wouldn't do/buy anything.

The PPP ups the oomph to 260 (ish), do you reckon the dealer will go to a 300 (ish) PPP? Can you upgrade the lump to this spec? will the chassis/brakes etc. handle more oomph?

Homework's always good

PPP on a WRX ups to 265 bhp: http://www.subaru.co.uk/IMGGB/WWW/Su...8?Opendocument

The dealer won't be able to do anything else to up it to 300, without doing something 'on-the-side', and that will invalidate your warranty. The beauty of the PPP package is that it's authorised by subaru hence comes under warranty. Yes, there are plenty of other packages out there with different people, but PPP has this major benefit for those of us with cars under 3 years old.
Personally I quite liked Flynn suggestions as well

Have a browse on the Subaru website under accessories and see if anything takes your fancy. (under the WRX 03-05 category as well as the WRX300 one)

Yes, I had the 1k service and nothing was said at all.....in fact the attitude of the staff was less than acceptable and I'll be getting the motor serviced at a local mitsu/subaru garage that does the family shogun. The problem with this dealer is that they are a multi dealership (five makes of motors). They've been around along time though.

I'll use subaru uk as leverage.....they're going to do something to put a smile on my face......and that will not involve pulling my pants down!!!

I was told you could find out the number by looking at the end of the chassis number, but I have to say I'm not convinced!

What do the numbers in the above list represent (I have a 27)? Are they just an example of the last two or three digits of the chassis number? I wonder if we could use the last three digits and perhaps see whether there is a pattern. I'll need to check what mine actually is, if that's the case.

And if we are going to see whose WRX300 is dirtiest, then mine might stand a good chance - it's filthy at the moment (but then has done quite a few miles, including a day at Bruntingthorpe, since the last clean). Might pop a picture up when I have one!

Any other WRX300 owners out there? Maybe we should start a new thread, to save dredging this one up again and again!

mine is 261, registered 18th Nov, so the pattern continues.
