Where? I've had a quick look and can't see any benchmarks on there at all.

I'd also be interested to see a comparison against the amd cpus. On the pc, the latest X2 dual core processors actually pretty much blow away the intel dual core processors. Not just in the benchmarks, but in real life use. (Having used both at work and home, I've seen it with my own eyes).

I'm expecting the pc types to slate the iMac in a big way, comparing it to thier mega speed Intel and AMD setups, thing is, the iMac is a consumer machine, not a pro machine, they will be coming along later and will be suitably quick.

A good test I feel would be Intel iMac running OS X vs Intel iMac running XP, and use universal versions of photoshop and office (could use the PPC versions via roestta, and it'd be lovely if they were as quick as the XP versions, as they'd be running emulated ).

Pro Intel Mac's vs AMD dual and Intel Duals will be interesting to see.

Who's slating the iMac? Certainly not me (and I am mr pc )

This new processor is going to be included in the next batch of pc based laptops / machines as well so it's not a platform dependant thing at all. Will be interesting to see how well the consumer iMacs fare against the consumer pcs using the same chips...

I just wondered how well the chips performed next to a X2 4800+ that's all. Might be time to upgrade the laptop soon

Iain,
Wasn't aimed at you, I meant the PC zealots in general, for example, the majority of keyboard ninjas on slashdot.

From the breifing we had this morning the processors Apple are using are different to what most PC vendors are using and Apple have been given a technical first from Intel. Obviously as high profile win for Intel and Apple.

Performance is meant ot be substantially higher BUT the applicatiins need to be optomised for 10.4.4 or they run via Rosetta. Apple have already advised for corproates running hgih end aops that the current machines will offer better performance until most of the apps are made native for intel chips. Most apps will cost around $49 to upgrade.

Not sure what Adobe, Quark's stance is yet.

This will be covered in our big corporate event in Feb 9th in London when around 60 manufactuerers will be exhibiting including Apple, Quark and Adobe. Let me know if anyone wants more info
