I'm 30 so only just out of my 20's so it wasn't that long ago!

The 20 year olds get offended at being called chav even though it wasn't aimed at them personally, its more of a behaviour thing not an age one.

The thing that pisses people off is when you start getting all arsey with this older people are jealous thing.

Why would I be jealous? If you work and can afford a scoob then cool, get one and enjoy it.

Just cos im 30 and only just got my first scoob doesn't mean I have to be jealous of your age though. In the 10 years difference I have moved house twice, owned 7 different cars (some fast, not all admittedly), had a kid(not personally obviously) and bought plenty of gadgets and expensive consumer electronics cos I'm a bloke and thats what we like!

I think you will find most people on here over 30 are the same and get more pissed off by the fact that you gob off and turn it into an age thing about how we are all jealous when in truth we couldn't give a ****.

I don't believe it's an age thing either, I had motorbikes until I was 20 and just became fed up of the boy racers as they were back then, thinking their ridiculously modded cars could compete with a Suzuki RG500. Therefore when I got my first car the last thing I wanted to do was become like the people that so annoyed me.
I think that there are tasteful mods, like nice alloys for example, then there are things like tinted windows, sticker kits, neon lights under cars, ludicrous spoilers etc. That obviously may upset some people on here, but it's my opinion and as these people get older they will probably look back and agree, although they won't realise it now.
I'm 36 and not at all jealous of youngsters now, when I was in my teens there were no speed cameras and had a bike that would destroy almost anything on the road. The good old days were indeed great!

This really is daft, im 20, drive a wrx but was in no way offended at the mention of the word chav.I can't assume that just because of my age it wasnt directed at me, if i did i feel id spend much of my time argueing. Anyway can we not just enjoy our cars for the pleasure of driving them and not the connetations they give to some people. Just wondering though, are lexis lights some sort of new breed of the lexus light that appears to be attacking small hatchbacks across the land..?

pikeys have been called chavs around my part of the country for years .it ownly the last 5-6 year or so that the hooddy gang have become chavs.

I have had some contact with the Romany community for 40+ years(in the south,so can't be sure of regional variations). I have heard them use 'Chavy' as their word for a 'young child of either sex'.It has certainly been used in my social circle for as long as I can remember with that meaning and certainly pre-dates that in their language as far back as anyone can remember so it is not a new word.

This has now entered common parlence as 'chav' an probably came originally with the social stigma attached that comes with the lifestyle they lead i.e if they are a Gypsy,Pikey or Romany child that they must equal trouble.

With the media attention on young yobs over the past few years 'chav' is now associated to all young people considered to be outside the socially accepted norm be it by their behavior,dress or lifestyle.

 

Don't understand the problem with Lexus lights. We have them on the wifes motor.
