As said above you can get a Brand New WRX blobeye for £14999.00 from Car super markets... Why would anyone pay £17K for a used one... Must be mad...Says its expensive at the local dealers. Then why not look on the net first?????

ive struggled to get a decent quote with a cat1 alarm and a tracker, so wouldnt wana be adding them to the car when i baught it.

i checked a few places out, graham walker in chester, but aint keen on what they had

ive not come on here to debate prices, the thread is about weather i should add my own mods to get her upto 300 bhp

Threeways garage is not recognised as an official subaru dealer on the official Subaru website and even if they were looking at their site they have no corporate branding that I can see.

I may be wrong though, however it doesn't sound that good a deal too me and others have already mentioned you could have a brand new - face lift model euro import for circa £16,000 and no adverse increase in insurance.

If it was me I would hold off on the deal and have a good look at some of the larger car supermarkets and www.subaru.co.uk and use the proven used search engine within the site, I'm sure you could save a bundle or get a newer car for the same money with a longer warranty remaining.

The choice is yours and ultimately whatever you decide I hope you enjoy the car. Bob R has a good point, for the sake of travelling a little you could save £3,000 don't be in a rush to part with your cash, do a little more home work before parting with your hard earned cash.

The general feeling seems to be that it's not that good a deal and I have to agree that it sounds a little on the expensive side. Bear in mind you are buying a 3 year old car with little warranty and a facelift model has just been launched which is not going to help residuals.

Suggest you settle in, there are a lot of people uase this board and each with thier own ideas and opinions.

Reading your first post you bought a car for £ 17k that is 3 years old and has 14K on the clock.
TBH that does seem expensive when you consider that you can get a new one for less with a 3year warranty, etc. Subaru are/where also throwing in a free PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack) which would have got you closer to your desired 300BHP target.


Re modding, have a read of the technical sections. Just adding an induction kit, superchip and an exhaust will not get you to your goal. here are much better chips/mapppers out there than a superchip.
also think about brakes and suspension which will also make a big difference to your cars performance.

Theres a June 2005 plate wrx with prodrive suspension and spoiler with 14 miles on the clock at Heritage Subaru in Leicester for just over £16,000 - I'm sure you could do a deal and knock them down a bit - couldn't you?????

Less miles, 2 1/2 years younger, similair money and a recognised dealer!

I know where my money would go out of the two.

For mods you might want to look at TEK3 map, decat, H&S system. Up/down pipe and free flow filter. That might see 280bhp. More than that and you are going to have to change a few more bits like fuel pump, maybe better going for STI i/c too.

I had my 03 on TEK3, down pipe, back box and free flow filter and it made 267bhp IIRC. Total cost was about 900 quid.

thing is ive had a car witch was de catted - a calibra turbo - and failed its mot - also now, there is a van wich is doing road side emission testes, havent had the privelige of meeting it yet. but a de cat gains you quite a few bhp

The 03 WRX has 3 cats. I went for a decat down pipe and kept the other 2 as this gets it through MOT etc.

 

if you handed over 17k for that car you are a mug! you obveosly didn't shop around. supperchips are a load of crap you might as well burn the cash for all the good it would do. i hi flow sports cat zorst will not make the car illegal add a new fillter and ecutec and remap you would prob get around 270/280.

 

Yes Billy answered your questions but I'm sure that many of the members of the site are either a little suspicous or just don't want to see you pay over the odds.

Lets face it I am relatively new to SN but many of the people on here are knowledgable when it comes to Impreza ownership etc and have a reasonable idea of "fair" market values, many are just pointing out that overall it does not look like a good deal.

Don't do something now that you may regret later on down the line, I'm sure their are loads of routes you can take that will increase bhp & torque but firstly we need more info.

How important is warranty?? Reliability?? Retained value as some mods will decrease value, however some will add value?? So yes some people will take the mick whilst others probably would appreciate a little more to work on.

On the price - if you're happy with the deal you got, then fine - perhaps he couldnt get a bank loan and the only place he could get credit on the car was through the dealer he bought from ? a lot of dealers charge higher than normal prices when they know they have a captive audience !

On the mods - first off : why do you want 300bhp ? does the car as it is feel too slow to you, or do you just want 300bhp so you can tell people you have a 300bhp car, while only ever using 200 of it ? Remember that bhp on its own doesnt really mean anything if you are comparing your car to somebody elses as there are a lot more factors to take into account ( car weight, driver etc... ).

I would take a bet that for 95% of Impreza drivers, the only real difference they would see between 225 and 300 bhp would be if they are using the car for track days etc.... On real roads with real police and real speed limits, you arent going to get to use the extra bhp ( OK, you may get to 60 a little bit quicker, but the difference is going to be next to nothing ).

I dont have a clue what the bhp is on my car, all I know is that it feels quick as fxck to me, it'll out accelerate most other cars on the road, and if I ever drove it at top speed on the road chances are I'd lost my license pretty quickly.

I think there are a lot of 'bhp queens' out there who just like the 'my ***** bigger than your ****' argument they can have in the pub with their mates, then drive home at a nice sensible speed.

There some very well respected tuners in the UK that would be able to advise of similair BHP improvements for less money I would imagine, although prices will depend on what route you take regarding mods although it is worth taking on board what tuning companies advise as obviously thay are the ones that have the experience.

Search for some of the following either here or on google or similair.

TSL, Powerstation, Scoobyclinic, API Engines, WRC technologies etc etc.

IMHO all the above seem well respected and get good feedback form anybody that has used them, personally I have a TSL triple 333 STI running circa 330 bhp and 330 lb/ft torque which is superb, TSL are very helpfull and also very good at what they do.

I have also used Powerstation in Tewksbury for steering setup but the welsh members on here hold them and David @ API in very high regard. Ultimately it is down to personal prefrence.

Bear in mind as well that 99% of mods you make to the car wont make it worth any more when you come to sell it, plus you 'should' declare them all to your insurance company, and at your age I'd check how much it'll put your premiums up by.

TBH with the PPP kit, £1600 on a car that realistically is only worth about £12 - £13K resale value for about 15% power increase its debatable if its worth paying for as an aftermarket add on ( worth having for free though when it was offered on a lot of new cars ). Unless you are planning on keeping the car quite a while, it may be better to wait a few years until you can get import insurance cheaper and go for an STI.

You could find that something cheaper like a suspension upgrade will actually let you drive the car faster ( unless all you ever do is drive in a straight line ! ).

reason im wanting 300 bhp is i used to have a heavily modded calibra turbo - witch was 280 bhp and 380 with the nos - so wanting to get upto the speeds i used to have.
