hi ppl im new can i have some advice

HELLO PEOPLE

im ady, 22 from north wales. just baught my self a 2003 blaxk wrx impreza.

just wondering how is the best way to get me from 225 bhp to 300 ish? thats my target

car cost me close to 17k - so shud i leave it for 12 months while the warrenty is on it?

car itself has 14k miles

will post pics when i pick he up on weds night i cant wait :luxhello: :luxhello:

bob r 09 January 2006 02:32 PM

17 k for a 2003 wrx bargain?:eek2: sure this is not a typing error. anyway whatever it is, the sensible option is leave it alone for warranty purposes. the other option is wait a while, fully familiarise yourself with s/n and pick up loads of good advice and ideas before spending lots of cash on mods and later thinking,,,, i wish i hadnt done that? or get a full de-cat exhaust, panel filter, re- map from decent specialist, this wshould give about 270 bhp. as for 300? cancel the sale and get an sti... probably cheaper on insurance also than modded wrx.:thumb:

adywrx 09 January 2006 03:19 PM

its not a sti just a black 2003 wrx, with 17k miles on the clock, so im chuffed

One ladie owner who never used it :)

i think ill leave well alone for time bbeing cos i dont wana ruin this car

but was thinkin more on the lines of induction kit, superchip, new intercooler???? i dont wana de cat cos i want this car to be legal, had enough of iligal cars for now, so maybee a sports cat??

GC8 09 January 2006 03:41 PM

SCHTOPPP !

If you dont understand why youre changing something then dont..... 'induction kits' and 'super****ingchips' are pointless ****e too. Id suggest that you learn to drive the car as it is; and dont change anything (even decent modifications thatll actually improve the car) until you see how itll affect your insurance.

17K for a 2003 WRX is way high me thinks, more 12K 13K

adywrx 09 January 2006 03:56 PM

yeah i aint gona do awt untill the warrrenty period is over

induction and chip wud iincrease the bhp quite alot - but also lower the mpg

had a calibra turbo wich was similar bhp if not more so am used to the turbo cars, but like my cusin said, subarus are in a league of theri own

17k? its nearly 3 years old, so shud have on average 36k mines

17k miles for a 03 reg is pretty good i think

Gutmann pug 09 January 2006 04:00 PM

This is a wind up thread surely. My spelling and English is bad, but come on .............

Josh L 09 January 2006 04:03 PM

Regardless of whether it's a good deal, I'd agree that you'd be a mug to throw away the warranty.

That said, a WRX is 225bhp, and an STi 276bhp, so if it is an STI, then a warranty friendly PPP would take you past the 300bhp mark.

You can of course extend the warranty, which would make a PPP the most cost effective way to do things, but if you chose not to extend it, then look at what's available then.

Josh

davyboy 09 January 2006 04:04 PM

Agreed - wind up thread.

GC8 09 January 2006 04:05 PM

No they wouldnt; suerchips are ****e; ****e ****e; and a pointless induction kit will give you deafening induction roar and nothing else. This was my point about not changing what you dont understand.

I agree with Chris, £17,000 is on the seep side; I assume you bought it from a Subaru dealers?

The only alteration that youve mentioned that will make any difference is a high flow catalytic convertor. Remove all of the front cats and replace the centre cat with a high-flow and an ECU-Tek remap and youll be getting somewhere. If youre looking for a deal more power then you may have to change to turbocharger; Im not sure what the OEM part is able to produce, but a TD04 (as an example) cant pump enough air to make 300bhp Im sure. Yod be better of talkingto someone like Andy Forrest and taking his advice rather than your cousins.

£17K With 14K Miles:eek:

You can get a Brand New MY 06 from Lichfields for less than £17k.

With a 3 Year warranty and zero miles

swtmerce 09 January 2006 04:46 PM

Hi Adywrx

I just bought an 03 WRX too (week and a half ago). I am definitely keeping it standard until the warranty runs out - it's going in on Thursday to have the gearbox checked out. It's only done 23000 miles and, having searched this and the SIDC forums, I now know that quite a few 2003 year WRXs have had gearbox work done on warranty.

Brun 09 January 2006 04:50 PM

On the off chance this ain't a wind up.
If you pay anything close to 17k for a 2003, you are a walking talking mug.
Cancel now!!!!!!

HOWY 09 January 2006 04:56 PM

Doesn't sound like a bargain to me when you can get a new EU import for less:wonder:

My 03 WRX had just over 30k on the clock. Still a couple of months warranty left. They threw in an extra years warranty when that expires. Added a tracker for me. Changed all 4 alloys for brand new ones as they were scuffed. Touched up all scratches. How much??? £12,500. I thought that was OK. But 17k OMFG. Ripp off. Big style. Even with the low mileage. By the way mine was bought from Subaru dealer as well about 3 months ago.

Others will correct me if im wrong but at 300bhp it must be getting close if not past the point of reliability for the internals. STI might have been better if you wanted that much.

I paid £14k for a 2004 WRX with 9k miles on the clock last year.

You can get 2005 euro import with delivery miles from a car supermarket for £16k. :)

You can get a lot more on the standard WRX engine theres plenty of people with over 350bhp on non STi spec engine but the gearbox reliability is the biggest issue.

300bhp is about a safe limit for a WRX engine and gearbox, I hope anyway.;)

bergyblaster 09 January 2006 05:51 PM

just got a 2002 wrx sti type uk for £11000 with 3 month warranty 60,000 on clock seems lovely.

pauld37 09 January 2006 06:24 PM

Maybe £14K with 17K miles????? :wonder: still alot.

Agreed, dodgy spelling

4hero 09 January 2006 06:35 PM

Gutmann pug 09 January 2006 06:53 PM

I wonder if this wind up thread will cause 6 pages of discussion :D

Euro imports dont make any difference to the insurance, I bought a Euro import and was worried about insurance, but it didnt make any difference to the price of the insurance. The only thing you dont get with a Euro import is a Cat 1 Alarm and the underseal.:)
