I think the summary is simple - buy any supercar marque 944 (the best bet - for those cretins that can't read my post before ), 911, 928 (god help you ) for £10k and you are 'generally' asking for a heap of (expensive) trouble.
*Of course there are exceptions *; but a 10-15yrs old supercar will generally have been razzled, dazzled and no doubt be in need of something expensive fixing (either at the time of sale or soon after). Engines, transmission, suspension on a car thats done nigh on 100k 'hard' miles will inevitably need some work. The more modern you go - generally the less work that is needed - it is as simple as that IMO.
Go in with your eyes open, look around for a long time (at this price bracket) and they can be found - but its not an easy task !
Now is this a little easier to understand for the people in the audience who have difficulty reading ?

As I said - there are always exceptions - not impossible to find - just difficult.
And as I also said - for that money a 944 is without doubt the best bet.
Not crap - just undeniable fact........

For all of those with great Porsche owning experiences I don't think anyone is disagreeing.
Porsches are fabulously reliable compared to any other supercar IF they are well looked after. Which means that when you buy an older one you have to get the right car which can be very hard or very lucky.
If you do not know what you are doing at the bottom end of the market you are likely to get a bottom car sold to you by a bottom feeder.
Caveat emptor.

It's not going to be a popular statment but ( personally) the 944 just doesn't float my boat...a rear engined air cooled 911 is unique and not nearly the same kind of car as the 944.
Whatever you do unless your buying from one of the well known long established 911 dealers make sure you go and get a porsche owners club mechanical inspection...
I do know of a clean 1984 911 Turbo which is in pretty good nick, had a fairly recent engine rebuild, but does need a couple of new wings and outer sill covers to make it mint (tiny bit of bubbling on near the light cowls) but that's going for £14k-£15K - I've driven it and that is a stupidly quick car but one helluva handful! It's got SS exhaust and even with the boost at stock it's putting out 330bhp!. A chip, an induction kit and some SS headers and your looking at 360bhp...
but I personally would definately NOT reccommend a 911 Turbo as your first porsche..

True- very nice car but wouldn't you rather have this with a 12 months dealer suplied warranty?

Oooh, yes. That would go well with my white mink coat, Panama hat and gold chains. The bitches sure would show me some RE5PEC if I turned up in that at the bingo
Sorry, couldn't resist

Hmmm As ever a wide range of opinions... although it does look as if I may be better postponing slightly until I can swell the coffers a little more. It has to be a 911 though regardless of cost as I just don't like the look of the others half as much /

well if you love the shape of the 911 your virtually guaranteed to be a happy man when you get one...but once again if your serious JOIN the porsche members club - there is a monthly magazine filled with em for sale and becuase they are so elitist about having a GT3 or a fully loaded 997 they just sort of give the 84-89 911's away!- someone there will be selling one private for your money and it'll be a known car and it'll be a real nice car- as to them wanting to sell you it so you can rag it's **** off - well that's a whole new story - they will frown and look disrespectfully at you
Hey good luck and let us know what you get when you get it...
Alternatively you could fly to the states on BA'a £199 return deal and buy a TOTAL MINTER for about £7.5K and have it shipped back for £2K...rental car, accomodation food and petrol £300+£199 flight + car + shipping = £10K

In his best Andy Pitkin voice..... I don't like it...
There is no great rush.. I'm not going to buy the first one I see and have plenty of time to save up. Unfortunately I do not have a job that pays masses like some on here .. So patience is called for
