Welder is currently in bits, control board is on dining room table, few multimeters, a portable scope later meant a trip to maplin to buy a new LM324

Hopefully that will fix it..

well gearbox is sorted.. Hopefully will be picking a PPG syncro kit up next week. Will also try and sort out a plated front diff at a reasonable price and see what I can find for a centre diff..

Started stripping the gearbox today, transfer box split and in bits, main casing to split the box, allready bits of teeth everywhere

Welder is semi fixed too.. motor isnt running at full speed, but its useable on max speed He says he will take another look when I dont need the welder, IE Tack some more bits in..

I think my dad is enjoying fitting the cage, more than me

What the hell are you going to be doing in that car, that it needs half a truckfull of scaffolding welded into it?

You gonna drive it off a cliff or summik??

I thought you were all about weight saving David?

I'm sure you will make up for the weight in BHP and torque and I guess it will make the shell a wee bit stiffer, but is it overkill?

Danny.. when I can afford a dog kit, I will change but it will be a fully sequential dog kit

Marty,

After seeing the mikee vs andy incident its not necessarily me thats going to be the 'accident' doesnt mean im not going to be involved though..

The car is not and never will be a drag car.. It is modified with one thing in mind.. Fast Road.

Im saving weight yeah, but 50kgs on the cage is hardly much

The engine in the 'red' car will be producing in excess of 600bhp and 500lbft so it should move quite nicely anyway

Yea, that was Mikees fault though.... for being there

I'm saving considerable weight by not fitting a roll cage and fitting a lightweight carbon roof. The drivers seat has a G sensor fitted that makes it recline fully via a fast acting pneumatic cylinder (supplied from the nos bottle) in the event of a rollover. The full harness pulls me back into a horizontal position and clear of any danger. As there is no metal in the roof then there is no risk from twisted metal etc.
Saves 28kg on the roof plus the weight of the cage. The secondary plus is that the car is now less top heavy and therefore less likely to roll over in the first place

Andy

Why not just rig it to an ejector seat Andy?

I suspect that an ejector seat would be the last thing you'd want.... if the car was on it's way over, by the time the electronics had done their job you'd end up being fired directly into the tarmac.... head first!!!

So what happens when you launch the car, does it confuse the G sensor

Anyway these april fools are getting silly, and there is only 12kgs in the roof panel.

quick update, cage is 99% in, just door bars and and final welding of mounting points to do..

Not happy with the windscreen bar, cant get it anywhere near the roof (1 - 2" away) my tubes didnt permit it going any closer, looking at mikee's his look to have been supplied longer.. oh well its done now, and Im not planning on using the cage!

Probably means you can fit the sunvisors back on!
Mine is so tight I have no chance, so have a 'Touring Car' sun strip using Limo Tint instead.
Good progress, will you be out at TOTB5?
Graham.

I doubt the car will make the team for totb5, unless I manage to get the car to do a 9 like it should.. TOTB is a long way away..

David

You may have already answered this earlier, but i can't be ar5ed finding it , but what sort of weight are we talking in the wagon, from starting off, to finished article?
Be nice to know just how much weight you've saved all in and know the real difference in weight between wagon and saloon.
