New Ring thread June 29th - 2nd July!!!!
#121
I have had a bstard of a week trying to delimit my car to no avail.
Looks like 125mph is gonna be top speed for me. I have tried everything at quite a lot of expense and have excepted only a new ECU will delimit the speedo for me. I can't really justify spending £1000 + VAT on N1 Mugen ECU. (9700RPM , VTEC comes in at 5000RPM)or can I
I am gonna pop in and see Mardi Gras (Honda racing specialists see if they can help)on the way down.

latest update.
most jobs are now completed.
did the body mounts and number plate frame mounts, rad duct mounts, changed the plugs, filled the oil and cranked it till presurised. plus lots of little jobets.
However, i called the radiator people this morning checking the thing was ready for shipping and guess what? They havent even started it yet!!!!! FFS!!!!!!! When will it be ready? Wednesday next week!!!!!
They said they would ship my rad back to me at which point i said, oh no you wont! It's got a hole in it! i cant use it! Doh!!!!! And no, its not repairable....
So i made them understand me not having a rad is not an option, get your head into gear and sort something and quick.
Well, to there credit they did just that, they couldnt make the rad i speced as the vacuumn sealing method used needs a few rads of equal core size to be done together so i was screwed on that front.
What they did find in their stores was the Rad from the 400BHP westfield V8 prototype car that they made that all the alloy rads were based on. It's copper so will be heavy but it will cool a 400BHP westie so i am happy with that for now.
Down side is i have to fabricate some new mounts for the damn thing, i get it tomorrow at work so dont expect to see me tomorrow night, i am going to be busy.
After this weekend i have to remove the thing and fit my new rad, yet more work, ho hum.......
The things you have to do to go have a bit of fun.
One good thing to come out of today is that they flow tested my old rad and it was apalingly bad so it's looking very promising that the new rad will do what i need and i will get to do multi lap runs.
Aparantly Westfield have the rads made using an old style intercooler core, not a water cooling core because it's dirt cheap, can you believe that, totally nuts. Explains so much that does.

Right,
It's a little early at the moment. Just off to start collecting people from around the countryside and will see you lot in about 6 or so hours in the South East.
If anyone see's me, dont follow, I'll be lost.

I'm doing a Felstead special, up early to work on an unfinished car! Apalling luck by the way John, we can compare notes on our troubles at the Lindenhof.
Ralf, the Lindenhof is in Nurburg main street opposite the BMW dealership if you want to join the silliness. It may not be pretty though!
I'll probably catch you guys at Dover because I think that I'm going to need every second available.

Just spoke to the guys at the Turbo Shop.
They think the turbo is going to be out of balance now and would fail, which is what i thought too. So driving to the ring isnt an option on the thing.
They dont have any in stock either.
So here is the plan.
I leave here at 1pm, i have to work this morning.
Drive to daventry, strip the turbo off the car, they will install a new compresor wheel and balance the turbo up. I then have to install the thing and then cary on to dover.
So i'll see you guys at the bar, god knows when? Oh what fun it is to ride in a 330horse open sleigh.

OK, so i have my car back together, radiator went in relatively easily. I had the whole car back together at 9pm so i decided to take it for a quick run and check everything over.
I get less than half a mile away and sudenly, no boost.
Turns out the air filter clamp rubber has colapsed, got sucked up into the inlet and straight into my turbo. Bollox.
I stripped the rubber out of the compresor wheel and its spinning freely, the problem is the fins on the turbine are all bent now. Its still pulls 1.4BAR but at the higher revs the engine is flat, loses power as the revs rise. I just cant believe my luck this week. Worked my nuts off to get the car ready and now this. I feeled well drained.
So i am now pondering what to do. Do i risk it and go over anyway and hope the turbo survives or do i just throw the towel in?
I am going to try get hold of another turbo in the morning, even if its a standard spec unit it would do as something to back up my current one.
Driving the ring isnt so much about power anyway, its about knowing the track and keeping the speed up so i recon i would still be pretty fast round there with the problem. The concern is that its a long way to travel on a recovery truck.
Bollox, i am well pissed off.
