Default remap time :)

UPDATE: As mentioned at the beginning of this thread, this car was bought mainly because I'd won a remap off scoobynet at powerstation. So yesterday, jan 5th, I went down for the remap. I turned up rather early, around 8am, as I wanted to beat the traffic on the M6, which I did. So I went round to the Little Chef for a full english to start the day. I ambled back to Powerstation around 8:45, and went it. I met Rich and Dirk in reception, and spoke at length with Rich about what was going to happen today. We also discussed my requirements with some mods I'd emailed about in the preceding weeks, namely the Milltek exhaust. I was worried that the Milltek would be too noisy over the Prodrive I had fitted, but Rich assured me this was not the case, and although a little louder, it wasn't excessive. So, I was shown off to the waiting room, and waited for the coffee machine to warm up, and my car to start the modifications.
I couldn't see the point in remapping my car if I was leaving it standard, so I had a small list of essential mods to bolt on.
First up, was the removal of the old exhaust, which fuzz!, the mechanic, had off in a jiffy

This is the old Prodrive exhaust in place, soon to be taken off

On the floor, the Milltek waits quietly to be fitted

Finally, after a bit of jigging, the old Prodrive was off, and the Milltek sat shining in its place

Next up, in the engine bay, was the 3 port boost solenoid and the K&N panel filter, essential to control overboost, and let the engine breath easier. No pictures, sorry, you know what they look like
After that, it was back under the car to fit the last of my current handling mods. I'd previously been over to Demon Tweaks, and picked up an anti-lift kit and ordered a rear 22mm anti-roll bar. I got a phone call off Demon telling me the anti-roll bar was finally in stock while I was in Powerstation, so I asked them if they would cancel the order, and I'd get Powerstation to fit one instead Which they did!
The anti-lift kit was fitted at Prosport at my 30k service last month

along with my geometry being redone too. So, Fuzz got to work on the old arb, and what a puny thing it is too:

After recommending the alloy drop links are fitted at the same time, Fuzz greased everything up, and that was it, job done:

Now time to map. Fuzz got the car onto the ramps, in Powerstations awesome rolling road room. It was secured in place, and everything checked to see if there were any problems, which there weren't Then, TIME FOR LUNCH. So, off to the chippy for me, and a well earned break for Fuzz. I've made a film of the mapping session, which I'll upload once PUTFILE.COM sort themselves out today. Once that's up, you can see what the mapping produced.

So, after spending most of the day there, it was time to pay the bill, and head for home, stopping at the Shell station on the way. Right out of the door, I could tell the difference the map and mods had made. The sound of the Milltek is just right, really showing off the scooby burble to good effect, without being remotely "in your face". Like my old classic, which was remapped excellently by Bob Rawle, I instantly found myself using higher gears than before, and changing around the box a lot less, making for smoother and most importantly, more frugal motoring. Onto the motorway, and as it was nearing rush hour (actually usually about 4 hours these days ) the traffic was getting heavy, so no chance to open the car up. Then hit major hold-ups on the M5/6 junction, then very heavy traffic on the M6 to home Well cheesed off. I got home at 6pm, just time to have tea, then shoot out again for a smacs meet at 7pm, so still no chance to really go driving. By this time, I was getting tired, as I'd been up since 5am!
After the meet, it was home to bed, and after a good nights sleep, I finally managed to go for a little blast today
All I can say is "WOW" Really, that's it
My favourite road around here is the SNAKE PASS out of Glossop. A very fast, twisting snake of a road, with some wicked climbs/dips/corners/straights. You name it, this road has it
And it was snowing on the top too
But what a transformation of my car. Instead of the 3rd and 4th gear grind of before, I was now in 4th and 5th all of the time. Only really sharp slow corners needed a drop into 3rd, and then the explosive nature of the car had me back upto 5th in no time.
To say I'm pleased would be an understatement. In its previous guise, the my03 sti ppp was no slouch, not by a long shot, but the remap and mods have unleashed the beast within, and really made a great car simply awesome.
So, what next you ask? Well, once my bank balance has recovered, there really is only one thing left to do, and that's the AST suspension set-up. Watch out Powerstation, I'll be back
Chris.

Don't understand how I missed this thread the first time round (although I think I was moving house and had no broadband, so that could explain it).

See ya soon

Nice write up mate...

Sooooo close to a T20!

Once you've done the AST's you'll find the Anti-lift, ARB's & fast road geometry will gel together into a simply superb handling package. They really do compliment the car's delivery and add some great fine tuning to suit your style...

Looking forward to the next write up

All the prices can be found on the powerstation website I obviously didn't have to pay for the remap, geometry and the anti-lift kit, so a bit cheaper than advertised
Thanks beefy, stop reminding me

Chris,

Excellent write-up and I am genuinely pleased you came away a happy chappy!

I must admit I have spent a fair bit of time in that dyno cell over the past 12 months with Rich (Oooer). I was hoping they would of bought me my own set of ear defenders by now!

Many thanks again to PowerStation for sponsoring the competition that you won.

Regards,
Shaun.

Top Marks
What a great write up.
Got me thinking need to do the same to my STI.
I was down at prosport the other day , Pete says he will be doing his remaps
with a miltek exhaust shortly. Have to wait and see what they are like, but your sounds like a fantastic job.

I will have to come to your next meet didn't realise you were so local to me. As I only live in Gatley.
Cheers for now
