Final spec depends on what happens in the next 4 weeks when we do the run in and shake down.

I will have to take some pics tomorow but the is still a bit to do so its not 100% yet but it dose run.

I suppose "final spec" is probably not the best phrase to use, as Im sure the majority of these types of build are never finalised - just constantly developing and improving.

Things to consider:

Air flow to radiator, oil & water temps.

It will be interesting to see how efficient the intercooler core is.

Oil feed to turbo bearings. Garrett recommend 15 degree's is the maximum angle from horizontal, and I'd guess yours is closer to 50 degree's.

I assume the position of the waste gate is just to show it ?

must admit the intercoooler looks like it blocks off a fair bit of air flow through the radiator from looking at thos pics.....be interested also to see if any cooling problems arise.

R19KET, The will be an oil cooler fitted were the TMIC was. The car has been on the road and in standing trafic and holds 92'C no problem. The will be some water weter in there and an alloy shroud ( spelling ) to direct the air through the rad but it seems fine in slow moveing trafif with the blow through fans. The Turbo is at just less than 30 degree's and although not at it's optimum angle was told by AET that it will be fine. The Turbosmart waste gate is a very nice looking pice of it and it seemed a shame to hide it.

Rigga, it would be no fun if you put a car like this together and it was all fine first time around, we will just have to see if the is a problem with cooling and address it then but from it's 1st drive out it looks to be fine.

Is the IC off a wagon or something... its HUGE!

Well, it looks like its all coming together for you...

Oh yeah, I thought you were posting up for your friend who is funding the project and owns the car?

Jay_bee, the FMIC is totaly custom and although big still fits behind the Std bumper with no more triming than the HKS one needs.

LOL, i wish the car was mine, i don't remeber what i was geting from Dave but along the way the spec has change so when i tell my mate he will need somethink els he puts the money in my account and i sort it this end as the is 400 miles between us.

The Turbo is at just less than 30 degree's
The angle is measured from the horizontal, not from the vertical............

I hope it works as you want.

i have seen some unusual front mount intercoolers in my time but this takes the biscuit! is this a wind up cos the turbo looks restricted to hell with them angles and whats with the inlet manifold, notice how detail cannot be seen as to how the throttle body is connected

I dont think its a wind up, I just think its a poor effort with pipe work personally.. The IC isnt huge at all.. Its just got an oversized poorly designed end tank IMHO.

Hope it all turns out as you intended.

same here there seems to be a loy of hours put into this build, i would be impressed if this actually works but i am sure there is an easier way of routing pipework than this

jaytc2003, the spec of the car is as was for the moment, It has been run in and is back with my mate for a bit. It runs fine and pull well. Not much more to tell you untill Feb when the boost is uped.

fwdnutz, The FMIC is a one off so maybe thats why it looks so diferant to what you have seem befor. What make you think the turbo is restricted?? The cold side sucks on a gently angled 4" pipe with a 90 degree bend and reducer in the wing that gose to the air filter, if you are refering to the boost side of the turbo then its 2 1/4" pipe ( the same size as the turbo ) and has a gentaly swept 45 degree bend off the turbo to where the recirculation valve is, it then gentaly sweeps 45 degrees over the intake trunk and runs straight down to a 20 - 25 degree bend as it gets to the intercooler. The car has very little lag and makes full boost almost straight away. It is runing at 1.7 bar and the is very little preshure drop between the compresor cover and the pipe that runs into the throttle body. Don't seem to restricted to me.
Why do you think its a joke??

If you want to know how to move the throttle body 180 degrees round to the front then just ask me insted of trying to provoke me into posting more detailed pics so you can see how it's done.

David
David_Wallis, the may have been a diferant way to route the pipe work but this seems to work and flow well. If you have an idea as to how it could be improved then the is no reason why it carn't be revised as i know you know your scoobs.

The IC core has a big volumetric capacity as it's 5" deep. I know the top tank is big but it needed to be bent from sheet alloy, it swoops back towards the throttle body as well as funneling down to the exit pipe.

Thanks for the kind words.

Again mate that was the way we decided to do it as the was not very many options and it dose seem to work as intended.

top stuff!!!

....errrr... without reading the whole thread - what was the final BHP figure...and how does it drive?

just noticed how close the turbo is to the brake fluid reservoir has that caused any issues with braking (even melting the reservoir!)

Thanks mate. The car is maped to 1.7 bar at the min and pulls hard all the way to 8400rpm. I recon it is about 400 - 420bhp @ 1.7bar so with a bit more tuning and 2 - 2.2bar it should make the 500bhp we wanted.

The pics make the waste gate look very close but the is enugh room. The car has been out for a ard run and then had the bonnet lifted to check things like that and all was good. The is a lot of air flow in that area as the bonnet grill covers are off and the top mount scoop blows air that way.

no.... both cars where in motion

the camera it was taken with has a setting to keep the shutter open for a bit longer to absorb all the natural light

so any movement, and the picture will be blured

Never said you were a liar, just said the clip could have been of any subaru in the country, which is true, because all you really see is headlights

Would be interested in seeing the engine bay pics, to see how it ended up.

Done any power runs with it to see what it developed? Did you achieve your 500 target?

Subaru5 clip, which gear was it in when it came on boost? 2nd or 3rd, and then change to 3rd or 4th?
