500bhp clasic
Hi guys, I am posting this for a mate as he has no internet access. The aim is for a reliable daily driven 500bhp on optimax. I am hoping you guys could take a look at the spec list and tell me if you think we have mist any think or if you think it will get to the magic 500bhp mark.
This list is from memory but here goes:
Up rated 225LPH Walbro fuel pump
FSE power boost valve
Modified fuel rail
740cc injectors
4 brand new coil packs
HKS fuel cut defense
HKS 40I spark plugs
HKS SPF induction kit
HKS tubular manifold
HKS group N down pipe
Custom DP Motorsport 3" down pipe back with single rear can ( no cat )
GT30R turbo
HKS FMI
Turbosmart external waste gate
Apexi power FC and remote commander
Apexi AVCR boost controller runing 2 - 2.2 bar
WRX bottom end
Bored and honed closed deck block
HKS 2.2L stoker kit
API STI version IV head's and cam gear
API 14mm stood kit
API Triple layer metal head gasket
API up rated engine mounts
API up rated 6 speed box with prop, viscose rear dif and shaft's
Exedy lightend fly and dule plate carbon clutch
325mm Brembo discs with gold 4 pot Brembo calipers
Performance friction Carbonmatalic front pads
New STD rear discs with EBC Redstuff ceramic pads

Personally, that list seems like a real mish mash of parts, and not really very well thought out.
A single Walbro pump, and FSE reg' are marginal to say the least, and you would be far better off with an SX or similar reg', and a Bosch '044 fuel pump.
The Garrett GT30R with external WG needs custom up, and down pipes, but most of the 3" systems will work fine.
Has your friend already bought these parts, or are they what he thinks he needs to get ?
I would suggest looking into this a little further before making any decisions, as I doubt any of the guys with "quick" cars would suggest this combination, myself included.
Mark.

Doesnt seem very well thought out, looks as though your friend has looked at a motorpsort website and just written down all the parts that they sell.
I mean with the power fc you wouldnt need the HKS fuel cut defense

I know this won't be easy and the is always a trade off but we are just going to have to see how it turns out.

The singel Walbro pump is on the car already and we are looking at may be a twin or a higher LPH pupm like the bosch one you mentioned. We know the GT30R will need custome pipe work and this is sorted. 70% of the parts have been bought already with a few bits to go. In respect to you saying you would not suggest this set up then i would appreciate any thought you may have over what to run.
Jaytc2003
Would it surprise you to know that 90% of this set up has been recomended by Dave @ DP Motorsport, Grant @ AET Turbo's and Dave @ API. the has been some thought gone into this list but if you want to surgest some think then i would appreciate it. The HKS fule cut is already on the car and if the Power FC replaces the need to have it then keep an eye out for it on E-bay, thanks for pointing it out mate.

Cheers buddy, im not the best speller in the world but what it has to do with tuneing a Subaru is beyond me.

I know mate, it's mad to think that some one with the money to own and mod a Subaru dose not have the internet or even a PC but there you go. Why would you want to tune a car in a School yard?

What is ment by your coment i don't know but if you want to enlighten me mate then fill your boot's

The HKS stuff is quality, but there is cheaper and often better quality//performance alternatives availlable which will save your mate money, look around, read reviews, there are plenty on here.
I am also thinking why have 500bhp for a daily runner? you cannot really utilise its full potential on the road. Why not go for a 2.5 conversion, have it tuned for say 350bhp (more chance of reliability than a 500bhp wrx bottom end which will have been weakened by it being bored - less material = less strength), this will result in better fuel economy and a much more pleasant drive.

Ah get you know LOL
Fangoria
Did you got to POD last Sunday, if so did you see Louis Robinson's Pulsar GTIR?
It wasent in the pro pit but it did do a 11.1sec 1/4 runing 500bhp on a GT30R on optimax. It may be harder to do with a Scooby but we will try.
Jaytc2003
Dp motorsport are doing the build but only about 50% of the parts are comeing from them. The before mentioned HKS manifold has been droped in favour of a Megan Raceing one and we are looking at outher things to save £££'s on. I know what you mean about the daily driven thing but the lad who's car it is lives in St Ives in Cornwall and all the roads are A B or M so it will be used every day. DP Motorsport have been good enugh to G/T the engine for reliability so if it dose go wrong then im shure they will sort it but for them to G/T it then they must have the confidence in it in the first place.

That £1800 for a Power FC, fit and map must be wrong. I will ask them about that and see if they have made a mistake.

al125,
Andy F will give you good advice, and so will others on this board, but it seems like you've already decided what you're doing, and just want us to agree with the choices that have already been made.
I wouldn't waste your money on the Megan headers. They don't last long on a mildly tuned car, let alone a car running high boost.
There are alternatives that are tried, and tested at 500bhp +, and are still reasonably priced.
The GT30R is a good turbo, and capable of 500bhp, although it may need a little help in regard to some fuel additives.
Without knowing exactly what you actually have, it's a little hard to suggest things to you.
Mark.

I put the list up to see what peep thought, the are still bits to get. If you have some think in mind outher than the Megan Manifold then let me know plz as this has not been bought yet. In respect to the GT30R Grant at AET said it will have the larger houseing so it will flow almost 600bhp.
Flat4 ire
It is a daily driven road car that he wants to have a bit of fun in at some events. Race fuel may be used at an event next year but never on the road.
