The point was about experience on that perticular car, nobody is saying the subaru is Rocket science compared to all other cars.
Sure, the oil filter is a bit different, and there is a distinct lack of a cambelt, and it may take a while to memorise the torque wrench settings for various nuts and bolts. Or it may take an extra minute to find which menu you have to go through to reset the service indicator. But that would be for the first particular car...the second one that come along wouldn't be a problem

The point is..he will still work it out, it's not rocket science.
Like I'm sure a Subaru mechanic wouldn't know exactly how to pump up the suspension on a Metro (or MGF
). But I bet he could work it out easily enough.

i dont dispute the fact that he would work it out, im just saying it may take a little longer. But yeah, i would agree with you. I still dont agree with ps.lewis that ALL CARS ARE THE SAME though. Im an A\C engineer and although in principle every system works alike, not every system is the same. This applies to anything i suppose.
Ali - you & me both know that it would take a little longer for anyone in a strange enviroment to get his bearings !
Take for instance an Volvo Truck trained tech & fire him in today to say a problem on an Iveco or a Renault, then problems would occur !! Most faults that tech or as i call them engineers
, come across are usually common & thus are easy fixes !
Though i do agree that a decent engineer
, should pick it up in no time

He is NOT an Engineer unless he is Chartered!!!!!!!!
And he isn't Chartered as he wouldn't be a grease monkey if he was!!!!!!!!!
No, he would be working with me at the cutting edge of rocket science!!

Oi!!! less of the chartered
...that's just an extortionate subscription to have some fancy letters after your name
(says the BEng post graduate
)
Do agree about spanner monkeys being called engineers regardless of qualifications though

I agree entirely!!!!
The Subaru Impreza is a simple, basic car that most people with an ounce of engineering ability can maintain correctly!!
And you have Chartered Engineers working on Volvo trucks??
while we DESPERATELY are seeking Engineers and cannot recruit them!!

The wages on offer are the problem, not many top Engineers will start on a poxy £50k!!

About time we started offering proper money!!
