So every modern engine is basic as they are designed to take the power designed for it, yes ?.

Listen, ****-for-brains ...........

You said, "Dealing Peter, not 'selling'....."

I was merely asking where I said selling, I genuinely couldn't see it - by your response I guess I have said selling, but missed it??

Could you please point me to where I mentioned it?????

Failing that I assume you will apologise??

YES!!!!

Now that wasn't difficult, was it??

Materials change, tolerances in machining reduce, electronics become ever more powerful ......................

.............. but, it's a foooookin engine - it does the SAME as it has done for 100 years!!

Intake, Compress, BANG, Exhaust ............. thats it!!! Don't kid yourselves that the Impreza does something different .... like, what??

Snap, Crackle, Pop???

Wow another Simon and Pete hijacked thread......

And yet another tiff

Are you two lovers????

Anyway...sentiments are that I'm with Pete on this one. The scoob ain't complicated and it's designed to take stresses and strains.

And contrary to popular belief they don't make them with choclate pistons either.

Calm down fellas it's just a car..

all engines are basic if u think about it from a mechanics point of view as they all have the same principles !!!!!!

its the engineering of them theat is complex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

designing the components specifications is what is complex,

now modern engines use electronic which make them complex !!!!!

pete u still a bad rash that wont go away, its funny how you pick up on the most insignificant of things.
y do u do this, is it just wind people up!!!!!!!!!!!

or are you that stupid

is this what u do for kicks

My 2p's worth now-The complexity(sp) of somthing varies depending on whom is looking at it-To someone with no mechanical knowledge, any car is complex(even a Robin Reliant!!!)-but speaking in mechanical terms, the Imprezza is very a simple allround package, which is a bloody good thing-less to go wrong. To put things into perspective,my old 2001 Vectra was technically more complex due to the type of engine managment/electronics ect-IT WAS A CRAP CAR THOUGH!!!!!
Now-a BMW M3 evo engine IS complex due to the double valve timing units and i defy anyone who says balancing(perfectly) all 6 inlets is an easy thing, mechanically though, the rest of the car is pretty simple though.
Even though the Vectra is technically more complex-i STILL wouldnt want my local Vauxhall dealers touching it!!!!!

Typical of the answer i would expect-you got the complete wrong end of the stick-just like my local Vauxhall dealers that cant get anything right!!!!!ITS AIMED AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP.Theres no hope is there eh.NOTHING discriminitave in ANY of my posts you fat man.

I wont give my statistics out as this isnt a dating forum and im a happily married straight guy.

For what its worth though,i do know some very good Vauxhall mechanics-one of which has actually moved onto Subarus-Two of them left because they were fed up with the cockups the inexperienced mechanics left behind.

maybe just me but i personally could'nt give two ****s weather its complex or not ( if its its simple and works its good for me ) long as it goes in a straight line and round corners when it needs too and does what its designed to do then i'm happy...

funny thing is how many people here work on there complex cars ??

Had no problem with the service and was slightly cheaper for the exact same parts & labour than the cars first 1000 mile service. Logbook all stamped with the official subaru emblem and not the vauxhall as some people may think might happen in this case.

Still dont know why they dont work on the subaru's at falkirk, but tbh i work 2 mins down the road from Ian's anyways so it's alot handier for me.

Should'nt have any problems getting work done there.
Yeah thats the one mate. like i said, i dont doubt there ability, i just wasnt all that sure if they were subaru trained technicians in there.

like i said, it wasnt a dig at Vauxhall mechanics or any others for that matter. I have full respect for any trained mechanic, cause without them we would have to rely on all of those who think they know everything about engines..etc but have never actualy picked up a spanner.

Reference the Subaru Dealership in Stirling / Falkirk

They will be opening the Falkirk one on the next six weeks, there will be two Techs based there both are highly subaru trained & and have worked on scoobs for numerous years, certificates can been shown if need be, i wouldnt doubt these guys they are amongst the best.

Falkirk will be totally refurbished over the next year with a new workshop planned, over the next few weeks the existing workshop will be changed around & sorted for use until the new one is built.

Try them, you wont be disappointed

Ps i know PM me for any more details

Spot on Pretty much what I'm getting at

An Impreza to a competent mechanic is pretty much identical any other modern car on the road to work, maintain and repair.

Just to add to the people who just simply don't "get it" ......

Put it another way to an IT specialist...is a Pentium II 350 based computer any different to use or work on than a Pentium 4 or an AMD sempron? - No!...just one is slower. Or how about a Dell Optiplex to a Packard Bell desktop? No!! One maybe better than the other...but they are essentially the same.

Another one...A Hotpoint washing Machine and a whirpool washinh Machine... both have drums, belt, motor, pump, control unit/board/progarmmer, door, casing, wires, suds tray, heater element, seals, safety lock, filter/trap. outlet, water solonoid valve, inlet and associated pipe work. To a trained repairman are they any different??? no!

Believe it or not, cars are the same, they all work on the same principals, they all use very similar technology to each other, the same bearing designs in engines and gearboxes (just plain bearings), the same type of braking systems (discs+calipers or drums etc ). same suspension (typically Macphersion strut front, multi link rear or twist beam/ trailing arm all supported by rubber bushings to subframe assemblies). Even the chassis designs are extremely similar - two main box section rails as main bracing along the length of the car incoporated into the pressed steel shell. With exception of proper 4x4 off roaders and vintage/american cars which use body on chassis (just like a truck...two main box section or U section rails with crossmembers linking them, and a body bolted on top).

If you spend your life working on cars...and got your hands on an Impreza and took it to pieces, you wouldn't find anything that would suprise you.

Take the impreza out of this for a minute. If a Ford mechanic changed jobs to work in a BMW garage i can pretty much asure u that he would not instantly know the ins and outs of the car. The result would be jobs taking longer and maybe not quite up to scratch. Give him a couple of months and yeah ok he would probably be a master at it. The point was about experience on that perticular car, nobody is saying the subaru is Rocket science compared to all other cars.

Hence, they get ripped off left, right and centre with 'special' things SUBARU forgot to put on!!! Ha Ha Ha

Can I interest you in a CockLink or a light to tell you when to change gear?? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA what a bunch of clowns

Strange that ................ considering the BEST Mechanics are those in the small, out-of-the-way village .................. who can and DO work on ANY car presented to them!!!!!

From an old Austin right through to an EVO ..................

So?? how do they manage working on 5 different cars in one day????

All cars are the SAME!!!!!!

Not true im afraid. Yes they will manage the fairly small jobs of day to day repairs, but if your talking serious work they will probably do the job but take alot longer or they will refer you to a subaru "specialist". I have spoken to enough mechanics in enough Garages to know that now again people will bite off more than they can chew. NOT all Cars are the same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
