The wagon is the wifes shopping car. I'll know today whether I need one or two, as I'm putting current 2.5 back in the red car, if it's fine I want one, if it's knacked two.
This all depents on us getting a good price deal of course

I know i'm no longer in the G/B but have you got a price from Knolesy (xtreme) for the short blocks yet?
Last time i spoke to him he said he was gonna get the price sorted and post it up here.
Not that i want one it just seems that you've arranged only one half of the group buy.
Good luck

To make a 400/400 2.5 your going to need for starters
Mappable after market ecu Apexi/Link/Gems etc.
A Td05 20g should make 400 on a 2.5 or something like a Garret hybrid that fits in the std position unless you want to buy new up/downpipes etc.
550cc+ injectors.
3" turbo back exhaust.
Headers or at least ported std ones.
Big tmic or fmic.
Decent induction kit with some sort of heat shield.
A good clutch AP/Exedy
And at some point a new gearbox as 400lb/ft will eat yours if abused.
And probably some other odd and sods.
As for the heads they will be fine there's people making more than 400 on std UK heads.

I'm just looking for 400bhp and torque and trying to find out the best and safest way of doing . it's amazing how many different things you get told by tuners . and things they won't tell you either .Ie if your ain't getting them to buiild for you. Had bad experience's with tuners on other cars in the past said they done things when they hadn't etc . Not saying any of scooby tuners are like that. But only trust my own work now.

To the best of my knowledge your heads should be up to the job maybe you'll need some porting work but it'll cost less than new heaads, but it would be a good idea to post a thread in general tech.

You can make 400hp with UK heads, but you may find the power drops quite rapidly after 6000rpm with the 99/00 cams. I haven't done a back to back, but the 97/98 cams seem to offer more flow at high RPM. Probably the best all round solution is to get some STI heads to go with the block.

l70byb,
It takes a lot of time, effort, and money to gain the experience about the different engine combinations.
I don't know how you pay your mortgage, and other bills, but all the tuners I know of, rely on selling parts, and services, to pay their's.
Anyway, I digress............
The issue with the standard cams, be they UK, or STi, is that they are designed to fill with air, the cylinders of a 2.0lt engine.
Put them on a 2.5lt engine, and you asking the cams to flow 25% more air, in the same amount of time, as they have on the 2.0lt.
Depending on the overall set up, 2.0lt UK cams will work ok to about 5-5500rpm, but will then start to suffer. The Sti cams will hold up a little longer.
This is fine if you want a very quick, drivable "road" car, because whilst BHP will ultimately be limited, "torque" is very achievable.
This will be compounded with a smallish turbo, that will already be on it's limits of flow, at higher RPM.
Unless you're intending to change the cams, I wouldn't waste time, or money porting the heads. They are not the restriction at this level.

Got the 2.5 and if i was going to do it all again i would stick with the 2.0
Uprated parts for 2.0 such as pistons and rods are pretty cheap now and there are some very good 2.0 builds out there.
If going for 400-450bhp i would stay with 2.0
Above this then would probably have a think again
The initial 2.5 cost is very cheap - but then its the fitting, mapping and other bits which goes with it that boosts price up

if you can get enough people to do them at 900+vat , I will take one but not interested if they will cost more. like money says a built 2litre would interest me more than the 2.5 if things get too expensive.
I will keep an eye on the thread to see if things look possible for the 900+vat price though.

Reckon they could do this conversion to an My99 Legacy B4?
I fancy some 2.5 litre twin turbo goodness, especially at a price that's cheaper than the rebuild it's currently in for.

Well that vibration eventually turned into a holed piston.
