I too have owned both and IMHO there is little in it with the 05 wrx being slightly quicker. They are both highly chuckable.
We had similar threads to this over a STANDARD new WRX v's a 215bhp Octavia a few months ago. It was the scoda driver who posted as he had been challenged to a 0-100 race (on an airfield- seriously for once..!) by a work collegue (sp?).
They were to 'race' the following day and he wanted to know how we though he'd get on. Once again the 'usual loyal' members of SN came forward in droves and said you'll do him once rolling, no problem (usual tranny losses/crap 60-100 ect..)..!
Guess what, the guy video'd it and even though the scoob driver launched like a granny (had only a few k miles on the clock so took it easy) he sailed passed pulling around 10 car lengths to the ton.
Fair play to the Octavia driver for posting the vid, but needles to say the doudters were very quiet. Have to admit even the loyal scoob posters were suprised esp. as the scoob came from behind ~60ish..!
Figures mean nothing, on the road is where it is proven, however saying that the only diff between a 182 and a later wrx on the road would be purely down to the driver.
So until someone video's a run between an 03> WRX and a 172/182 FFS give it a rest..!

i remeber that vid and the scoob clearly had more power despite what we were told ,i dont think the skoda was making over its quoted 180 despite what he said ,,2 cars with similar weight and power couldnt be so far apart id have liked to go down the runway against that scoob after the skoda had done tbh,i reckon i could have shown him the way

FYI the scoob was <6 months old so other that PPP (which it apparently hadn't) I can't see the owner modding it much. It had the twin pea shooter exhust FFS..! And as I recall the Octaiva owner knows his car better than you do, why do you think he was keen to go up against the scoob in the first place..!
You stick to the figures (www.letsorque.com) and I'll stick with reality, or maybe someone edited the video...!
Just to clarify, the scoob (standard 05 wrx <6k miles) came from behind at around 60mph and easily pulled out ~10 cars to 100mph. I won't mention what the gap would have been if it had been launched in any way..
Would be nice for someone to dig the thread up...?

And its funny how Jasonius said "This is the thing that pisses me off, no matter what happens in reality (even seeiing it happen), if it doesn't fit with someones way of thinking then it's dismissed as BS." This is what I`ve been arguing with sgcooby about...I`ve done it, and seen it but because one day in Evo a brand new car did x time then every other car of that model will be the same...

DavyBoy, Nick Read - they are all coming out of the woodwork today.
Jonto, give us a bell if you still have my number, am up in newcastle for beers in the next few weeks, will have to try and catch up for a swift jar.
Back on thread...
I will quite honestly say I have met a lot of cars on the road, and the long and short of it with the Subarus is... I haven't got a bloody clue which one is which and which one has what horse power. (i normally go on the size of the letterbox to be honest) The likelihood of a scooby driver doing the same with a black 1.6 dynamique and a 172 / 182.
I honestly feel that Chris n' Nic would suprise a lot of you. Nic more than Chris (she's about 10 stone lighter than he is ;-) )
I like to prove my worth on the circuits. ere are some timed figures from Donnington Park - Tuners GP in September - with plenty of tuned Subarus.
http://www.tunergp.co.uk/download/ResultGPClass.pdf
http://www.donington-park.co.uk/information/records.asp
(as you can see from the second link, the record for the clio race cars is 1:18.xx so the cars can go much quicker around there)
The two fastest laps with our cars were with me driving. Bear in mind please, that these are tuned cars, not standard. The quicker of our two cars will go a lot faster than that but we had the throttle it (in the same way that other teams had to throttle their cars) I feel it would be quite realistic for me to take the time down to 1:25:3 - 1:25:7 mainly due to me being able to hold full power under the gantry on the start finish straight, as I was having to back off.
The Majority of the larger teams had professional drivers or at least very experienced drivers, so I think that it would be foolish not to say that in the hands of most people the lower bhp cars are very evenly matched on the road.
I would be more than happy to have a run with a scooby if one rolled up behind me, the only thing is in my experience, they can't keep up with me.
Davyboy will tell you I am sure that he is not as quick around the ring as his mates scooby (about 20 seconds in it IIRC) but I am sure around most uk circuits the difference would be a lot lot less. The clio runs out of puff at 115 / 120 normally, the subarus that I have seen at those speeds just keep going.
these are just my thoughts.
