nice one Graham would the 9 clicks back from fully screwed in be the same as 6 clicks back from fully screwed out?

12 clicks on mine, soft to hard
so, 3 from soft is = to 9 from hard.
One click is not that coarse, so a click here and there not to critical.
some clicks are not as defined as others so be careful.

Kev - Silverstone is a very fast/ flat circuit - much different to a sprint or hillclimb.
I competed there at the last round and had my LEDAs set to 24/24 at the rear and 20/24 at the front. I only have adjustable damping. Also the change in tyre pressures can have a huge impact on a fast circuit like Silverstone. I started on 36/36 front/ rear, and then played around reducing the front more than the rear (didn't like that) and finished on 30/30 all round (it felt better with equal pressures). I'm not sure that too low pressures on a fast circuit like that will really help you too much - but I'm interested to hear other peoples thoughts on that.
All these changes made with the aim of improving front end grip and keeping the rear a bit more loose - helping you power through the fast bends.

i'm aware that Graham's settings won't cross over from one car to another, i was more after the relationship of the fast & slow bump and how it compared to the compression, as these normally go hand in hand with each other, all depends on what spring rates we have, tyre pressures (as you said) and then how much kerb i want to take

Getting any 3 way system balanced is hard to do in a short time.
There are several violent curbs on a hill climb and the above setting will ride them quite well when I fail to miss them!
As Terry says, those are hill climb setting to suit me/the car.
You might find then good or bad.

But if you finish ahead of them sure as hell they will come asking you, I suppose to start with it all depends on dry/wet track and which tyres the team choose to use, the weather forcast at this time suggests a wet w/e, so that should even up things a bit....

i think they'll be ahead of us, they've had all season to set the car up and should know what it does by now, this'll be the first time out for us (i don't count TOTB as an outing )

You should ask CUrtis for some help. I am sure they will be able to give you a good starting point, as it's in their interest for the AST equiped cars to perform well.

Tyre pressures for track work are often screwed up - you need to get the tyres hot, then balance pressures to your preferred. Note that this will meaning letting loads more air out one side than the other (depending whether track is RH or LH). It will also mean you need to warm tyres up slowly from cold after a lunchtime break....or get some more air in and start again if the afternoon is in the reverse direction This plays a very large part in providing consistency, and acceptable tyre wear, on track.
Also normalise before driving home, if using same wheels/tyres.
Hill climb's are completely different, you don't get long enough to put any heat into the tyres really. In my (limited) experience I slip and slide the first few corners, slowly gets better until I cross the line but never really gets up to operating temps. But then I'm too tight to buy soft slicks

ok, think i've got a handle on it all now just a quick question, the rebound setting on these shocks (the bottom of shock adjustment) is it for slow rebound or fast or a bit of both?

iirc Slow.
for hillclimbs the trick is tyre choice, and road/slicks like the Dunlops and especially the soft Kumho V700 series heat up very well, about 10 secs!
We expect a deatiled report from the Works Driver monday.
I'm doing Shelsley Walsh otherwise I would be at Silverstone.(to watch)

have you played around with the rebound much to aid under/oversteer? seems set very low or is it extremely harsh the higher up you go?

I cant say the setting changed the under/over steer at all.
The 'attitude' of the chassis to accelleration/braking and direction change certainly is affected!

Big Championship race this weekend at the dreaded Shelsley Walsh...
Lots of difficult cars in the class who won't leave me alone, Rob's Sti RA, Andrew's 2.2 Legacy, Jeff Twemlow's WRX and the EVO of course, never a meeting without the EVO!
Practice yesterday was a bit miserable.
First run on a damp course was a bit bland as caution came to play, the second run in the dry was a bit better but nowhere near by pb of 32.89 set this year, and my 3rd run was in the pouring rain where I cut a good 38.
This car is really nice in the pouring rain and i certainly like the rain.
So sure footed on this very tricky (for me) hill.
Today was damp again so the first timed run was a bit sedate and the EVO ran a dead 32 secs, and the rest of us were in the 34's/35/36/37.
Rob and Andrew were very close to me as I sat in 2nd place behind the EVO, on slicks for today.
The second run was in the dry and i knew Rob was chasing hard.
He looked very strong off the start line, the dccd does look to add a bit to traction, so the heat was on!
We ended-up with Roy (The EVO) first, running exactly to the 1/100th his class record, me on a 'slow' 33.11, Rob a few 1/10ths after, Andrew then and the rest following up.
Got away with it for another time, but i think next year will be a character building year for me and will need some serious thinking about!
I do have to say that the car is fab.
It is so strong, reliable and in your face it is a dream to drive, but in the pouring rain it is just so much more.
It is the very few times where 4 x 4 actually seems to work for you and above a certain speed you can press the throttle to the metal and the car screams forwards.
Just that you arrive at the next bend so bloody fast it takes your breath away and threatens your Y fronts!

Yes, and that is one of the advantages of the Kumho V700 series.
The EVO driver said the Avon slicks seemed no better than the Kumho medium compound V700.
The Kumho's really are GOOD.

It isn't just tread pattern.
the combination of pattern and compound of the Kumho 700 gives you a tyre that drips so well dry/wet, disperses the water AND heats up quickly on a hill climb, AND lasts 3000 road miles too!
All this for £110 each.

No they're not, they're all number 54!!! an Impreza (probably yours) certainly no Evo!
BTW second in class at Goodwood sprint on Saturday beaten by 500 break RS500 so quite happy. Did spin at one corner though!!

tried your settings at the weekend Graham only got the wet session to test them but they seemed pretty good, but i got Curtis to have a tinkle for the 2nd session and he dialled in a bit more stiffness for the track, only managed 6 laps so not got a major amount of feedback yet to give on them, so far so good though, just a shame the gearbox broke coming onto the home straight, was looking like a really good result was on the cards

Nice report as ever Graham, was a good weekend as we managed to dodge the rain for a change. Really enjoyed getting Stuck into Shelsley in the last run and trying to take crossing as fast as possible, which is much easier said than done. My car is running well at the moment but the hill highlighted the lack of torque and i find myself bouncing up and down on the seat trying to get it to pull a bit more in the flat out sections. Hopefuly find some decent power in the winter break though. Didn't get my 'A' licence in time for Prescott on the 2/3rd September but will come up and have a look on saturday. I'm racing at currborough on Sunday in a shenstone 'B' with my brother on his first outing which should be a humbling experience. After practice on saturday I went to Weston Performace to watch his EVO being remapped and what a car it is now. Taken from 319bhp @ 1.5bar to 367bhp at still 1.5 bar! shows what a good mapper can do he only stopped because the injectors were maxed out. Annoying how easily tunable Evo's are and just what a rapid package it is now. Never fear we shall catch them! I'll buy a police stinger strip off ebay and we will have to talk our wives into chucking it out accross the esses approach for their runs .
