Searching for the perfect Chassis
Just back from a damp/drying/dry practice day at Prescott.
My previous best there on a good day is 48.07 and a 2.05 start, and today it was 48.07 and a 2.03 start.....
Still, we can't Peak in Practice so tomorrow could be my first '47' (?)
The EVO stands at a low low 47, just 1 second away, 1 bloody second.
Still, some other Impreza's there for the weekend too, Mr Twemlow and Mr Wadsy, both going very well indeed (55's and for Wadsy, 2.03 on road tyres!)
some pics/vids for you:
First damp run:

The EVO dry run @ 2.03

Oh so quick Audi Quattro @ 1.96
! TURN THE VOLUME UP!!!!!!!!

Wadsy @ 2.03!

And some tasty stills for you:
You all know this one:

The EVO:

Jeff Twemlow's WRX with PowerStation/Whiteline suspension

Wadsy's RA

and some random nice hill climb cars from today:

A bit of tech:
i found the car a bit oversteer'y on these runs, not quite as stable as the last 2 meetings, so i've adjusted the rear bar to 'softest hole' and we will see tomorrow if that improves things.
Hoping for a 47 which wouls be great, especially if the EVO stays in the 47's too (he has done a 46 before)
Then there is the dark horse, the Sunbeam Lotus at 48 at the moment....

And so to race day.
Bottom line:
Best start ever, @ 1.93 to cover 64 feet = 1.03g
Best run ever at Prescott = 48.01 secs.
Just cannot believe that i couldn't find that 2/100's to make it a 47!
EVO came first @ 46.7, Muggins second, Sunbeam Lotus came third on 48.01 would you believe (I did a faster run this morning so 2nd on count back)
Lots of carnage and good runs all day, the track was weird and no records fell.
The first run with the rear on 'soft' was not the most stable, and I'm told the rear inside wheel comes off the road in one of the sharpest/corkscrew bends
a full 12''.
After the first run, i put the rear bar to middle agin. didn't seem to make that much difference, but cut my personal best!
Some vids to amuse you:

Wadsy did really well, slicing seconds off his previous runs, going to be a problem to me next year!
We now have a LONG 6 week break from hill climbing for the summer. Time to get the 911 out and about, off to China working too, see you all soon.

Thanks for posting the stuff Graham and giving me a mention too. Shame the video link of 'my' start is of something else!
Really great weekend, good to see you again and meet a few others. Pleased to get a 52.01 on my last run. Don't think I'll be bothering you though, still at least 4 sec off.

hi,
sorry to bring this up again, but, why don't you try some wider tires and 1' bigger rim? I have the feeling that when I fit my superleggera the initial acceleration was better ( maybe just my head playing tricks? ). I have 7x17 et 48 superleggera, next time I'll need tires I'll buy 225/40/17 to see how it handles, but since you want a lower profile why don't you try 225/35/17?
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCal...?action=submit
in this site you can check out the tire sizes and don't waste time doing numbers...
you said before in 17' there aren't no soft compounds. why don't you try the medium compound with the wider tires? I mentioned the OZ but there are other light/lighter wheels...

Carlos:
2 years ago i hillclimbed on 17'' P1 wheels/tyres (205 x 17 x 40) Kumho medium compound. The weight was much higher than the 16's.
I expect next year to run Avon hill climb slicks with the right compound, and those are only available in a size for 16 x 7...

The Bugatti are works of engineering art, and I love them!

Cheers for posting the clip mate, thats about £50 of rubber gone in that video and thanks for the AST set up advise car's handling really well. Got a flying 1.99 64 ft start in my final run only to be scuppered by a skoda laying gravel everywhere (don't ask). Got a few weeks off now until Loton and car needs a little work, the constant question of wether to go front mount IC goes on, cars power suffered in the afternoons blazing heat noticeably on the sti TMIC, it's bugging me no end, may just tell them to stick one on and sell a kidney or something.
Thanks again.
Rob.
Thanks again.
Rob.
nice pics and great videos
graham, followed your advise and I'm really happy. fitted 22mm front arb, 24mm adjustable arb, drop links ( front and rear ), front wishbone polybushes and black alk. still haven't done the alignment but the car feels awesome ( can't wait to have the alignment done ). don't know if should buy the rear polybushes ( I think at front they are all in ) or strut braces...

Carlos:
I wouldn't bother with the bushes unless you fit stick tyres, but do fit a subframe locking 'kit' from whiteline, very cheap and a big help to the rear sub-frame. (only to special bolts, fit in about 10 mins max)
You rally need to fit top mounts, but that isn't easy as other things change too!

Nope!
But thanks for the thought.
Bet I look as if I'm cruising, or as if on rails....
Must try harder as the young bucks are surrounding me.
Giant entry for next Shelsley, about 9 in the class! (inc the Young Ones)
Even Roy will need to pull his socks up.

Took the car up and down the street today to check everything was ok after...... new bushes all round, sub & diff lock, rear arb, f&r d/links, coilovers, top mounts, lower braces, upper braces, brakes and finaly wheels were fitted. (Phew!).
Everything seems in order apart from bouncing along the road. Its relatively flat but the hks coilovers are rock! Fine for track and some sprints but i think they will be too stiff for some of the older hills, never mind actually getting to the event! New springs required methinks. What spring rates are you running f&r??
p.s. Had a run in a 350z gt today. Its not got the grunt of the scoob but its amazing how it sticks to the road round corners. And the backs quite controlable when it twitches/slides. Really impressed all round having thought they were a chicks car.

That is the wife's fav car....
As to springs, i would go for 50/40 rather than the 60/50 i have. The 50/40 were just a nice compliant feel to them. Will change mine for next year if PowerStation are still happy with me...

John, if i remember rightly, i dont think you dont need a cage, bucket seats or harnesses etc. Its a good idea safetywise though as i've seen a few cars on their roof at events. Unless its a National event, you dont even need a cut off (key in ignition will do if marked up!). Correct me if i'm wrong Graham...

the more you get out, the less you clean up.iirc from when I had my reservoire off, to bleed: Fill up and turn steering lock to lock a few times before running the engine. Can't remember if you have to watch for bubbles.
Don't know if that helps or not
