Searching for the perfect Chassis
I run the stock Sti v3 box/ratio's. I also run the kumho's which are only 580mm dia, good deal smaller than the 205 x 50 x 16's.
Ratio's seem ok to me on my 2 liter.
I tried a 1995 RA box/4.111 diff for 3 hillclimbs i know very well, and went about 1 second slower up those hills. Far too many changes.
It all makes a big difference.
Your 2.5 John with its torque will use the UK ratios well/better than Sti?

not alot wrong with my gear ratios now, if you change the diff to raise your ratios then you get a nice long first gear also
also noticed you're running very low tyre pressures, i've found my best setup with 36/32 (it's also what michelin recommend strangely enough)
here, have a photo

Where did you get that from?
Thanks!
I used to run higher pressures, 32 / 32 on these 45 section kumhos and last year ran even 25/25 once.
Rubber warms faster!
Might be better to try a taller profile next time, but Kumho only do a 225 x 50 x 16 which is why I asked you on your killa thread about the section of tyre/wheel offset the other week.
That tyre wall looks a bit close.....

in the photography section, someone went to prescott
just checked, 9" section wide tyres on et46 rims is what i've fitted, 10mm to spare to the strut

You have some lightening potential and can still be in road trim - bonnet & boot ( unless you have ally bonnet already ), all that sound deadening, underseal, plastic wings, lose the electrics ( stereo, windows, air con gone already ? ), lightweight motorsport battery, lightweight wheels / wheelnuts ( a la Flat4 ), pop out the passenger and rear seats at the event, if allowed in the regs, I assume tool kit/jack & spare wheel are out
May well lose 100 kg there ??

True, but then I would have to put the seats etc back in on a rainy sunday after the meeting!
Take all the other ponts though.
I do need to stop and think about this car and above all else the way i am driving it.
I think Prescott has bought that fact home to me.
Time to copy the EVO!(which a=has a full interior and not lightweight parts other than it is an RS)

John: You can do it all on 'Drop Box' that is what i use but it was a BIG pain fixing it all!
David: Sorry, didn't mean to pressure you to Harewood, I'm sure you have a bit to do on your car!

Fully trimmed (less loose carpets) is mandatory in Sprint Championships in general.
For my class you can run single seat and a bare metal interior (except no sharp edges).
Big weekend coming up in Barbon and Harewood, the latter is a great run.
Buzzing up and down M6 etc not so good....searching for Optimax!
Must remember: Press throttle before the apex...

No need to ever drive around looking for optimax: http://www.shell.com/home/PlainPageS...on_finder.html

Just noticed this thread has not been rated, with all the info/feedback on here there has to be a whole shed load of well sorted chassis out there, so for that reason i have just given it a 5* rating, keep it coming Graham & Co.

Back from a wild weekend of *****-out hillclimbing, and has the Sti ever earnt it's crust this weekend.
First though, thanks to David Wallis popping over to support me at Harewood, hope you have dried out...
Friday saw an attempt at the 'ecconno run' up the M6 to Kendal at a nice steady 40 mph for 2 hours mixing it with the lorries and all the other bores commutors just trying to go home, or anywhere probably. Think I got 20 mpg!
The saturday hill climb was at Barbon, and was my second time competing there.
The weather though was grey and damp and I had changed the AST set-up to very close to max soft in all 3 areas, infact they are 3 clicks from soft. I feel I've got the interelationship sussed between all 3 adjusters, so I now simply click harder or click softer to suit.
I've lost the bobbing of the front -end now so things looked good!
And indeed they are.
Made a first in class, AND set a time that would have beaten all the sportscars in the class above me.
For the first time ever I feel that I was 'with' this car, the handling was just so good, the engine was a match for the chassis and even i added my bit to the proceedings with pushing through the sweeping bends of Barbon pedal-to-the-metal and without fear.
So, with that (and dead camera batteries) under my belt, the circus trundled over to Harewood House for sunday. Following a convoy of motorhomes at a steady 40 mph gave about 40 mpg...
Harewood today was wet.
It was grey, but the track wasn't particularly slippy. We were all in the same class so battle began.
Got the camera going this time so a few vids at the end of the race report here.
Left the car exactly as it was, didn't even check let alone adjust the tyre pressures.
Car was great and bagged a third in class behind a Westfield with a 2.2 lire Duratec engine and an E Type that I blew away yesterday!
The drive home was a steady 70 mph on the M1, and the Sti purred it's way into the garage covered in flies, dirt and drying out still.
It has earnt its corn this weekend.
Loton next weekend while you lot are slaughtering everyone at Elvington.
Graham
