Please note in these pics I've used the original bit of IC hose to join the hardpipe into the throttle body where I've had to cut it - This was a temporary measure and a not a great idea as it popped apart - not replaced by a bit of samco 63mm id hose and some decent clips....

And the beginnings of a step by step for this kit....

Nice one Dr_Jones! Good write up, and piccies!

Your o/s wing inner hole ( ohh err! ) looks uncut - is your car a 97 or pre 96? Otherwise pre 96's need to enlarge o/s inner wing hole by resonator pipe, and do the cut and shut on the throttle body hard pipe. Also on early cars where dump valve sits above the turbo outlet on o/s of throttle, a length of hose is needed from dump valve connection on the hardpipe to throttle body over to the recirc dump valve onto inlet pipe / resonator box ( or whatever people have replaced it with! ) on the offside.

I think!

Who would you recommend for better jubilee clips and 63 mm id samco hose, OEM recirc cump valve hose etc,
Any problems with bolts / nuts removal / shearing?

Got me a Hybrid monster FMIC kit with GT Spec i/c rad on way, courtesy of Hybrid-HK / Ebay .. for my 94 wagon. Should have fun fitting!
Cheers, keep it up!

The hybrid comes with some really good clips, you won't need to buy any others, You will need to purchase two silicon hoses, 51mm streight for connecting the turbo to the pipe work and a 38mm to 25mm reducer for the dump valve. all other hoses were supplied.

Demon tweeks are pretty cheap if not these guys http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/default.php but they charge £8.50 for delivery

Theres a thread in members galley of mine being fitted last weekend.

Cheers - yeah inner wing hole is uncut - it's an early '97 V3.

Got my extra clips for a place called 'Designations' in Peterborough - about 3.50 ish quid a pop over the counter - though I have ordered clips from thes guys http://www.automec.co.uk in the past - and received quick delivery and good service - the silicon hose was from Merlin Motorsport http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/ superb service - 2.50 post - arrived the next day.

Incidently Jo (Squirrelboy) posted me the piece that would be the only 'missing' bit from the kit had I not cut the hard pipe to the throttle body also - thanks Jo - 'missing link' greatly received!

Hello Dr Jones

WOW! Your car looks gorgeous!

We saw on a car with the hybrid one fitted when I was looking for fitting pics that cutting that pipe was the best bet for fitting the kit. Your pics are fantastic! Are you happy with the kit?

No worries about the hose knew it was a headache for everyone as you want all the hosing to match!(We've ordered a bulk load for future use!!! : ) Oh and did you use the extra smaller hose that was in the kit?

Jimmy is still about think he was a bit blatant with his selling on the forum as thats when he got banned so anyone dealing with him you don't need to worry he's still arranging orders with us.

Cheers Jo

Thanks - very pleased indeed with the kit - looks good and the change in performance for my money makes the car nicer to drive - more lagggy but mid / top end 'feels' greatly improved.

No didn't use the extra small hose included in the kit - I guess it woul dbe needed if the hardpipe from the turbo needed to be cut as I've seen in some earlier (I think) models.

Default Missing parts

Lads what was missing. I read two posts and one said 51mm samco missing and other 63 x 100 as below. Which is it or have i read it wrong.

"51mm straight for connecting the turbo to the pipe work and a 38mm to 25mm reducer for the dump valve".

"2 x 63mm bore x 100mm lengths (for the cut in the top hardpipe and the connection from the turbo outlet hardpipe to the wing hardpipe"

Started fitting mine today.

You'll be short of one of the large ones. 51mm?
And however your going to connect the dumpvalve to the pipework.

I'm probably gonna have to cut the pipework from the turbo and the pipework to the throttlebody to get a nice fit. Which means I'll have to have another 51mm pipe.

Mines an MY99. and I had to cut the inner wing out to get the pipe work anywhere near..

On a MY00 it will be a lot easier because you won't have to cut the inlet pipe and there's more room under the inlet manifold for the pipe to the turbo.

Let me just write you a list of what you should have (& what you'll need) & you can cross them off as you go:

1) Intercooler
2) Pipe from intercooler that goes into the o/s wiing
3) Pipe to the turbo (from the pipe in the wing)
4) Pipe from the intercooler that comes up behind the radiator
5) Pipe that goes to the inlet manifold (from the pipe by the radiator)
6) 2 x Reducing silicone joiners for the ends of the intercooler
7) 2 x 63mm x 75mm silicone joiners for connecting the pipes (i'd recommend ditching these in favour of 150mm lengths for extra security)
8) 1 x 50mm x 75mm joiner for connecting to the turbo
9) 1 x 70mm - 63mm reducer for the inlet manifold connection
10) 1 x 38mm - 22mm (depending on dump valve inlet size) reducer
11) hose for connecting the dump valve to the inlet manifold
12) lots of joining clips (i'd recommend ditching these for some slightly larger jubilee clips as they're a VERY tight fit). Just take the silicone joiners to your local motorfactors and ask for some that will fit.
13) 2 x brackets for joining under the car
14) 4 x bolts

What you will definately need in the way of tools before starting:

1) Socket set
2) Various screwdrivers
3) Spanner set
4) Dremmel
5) Angle grinder
6) Small hack saw
7) Drill

I think i've covered everything

Major compressor stall probs though. Need to play with the DV..

Oh yeah you definately need patience

Compressor stall? That may be what i'm getting. Whilst i'm cruising along the motorway and I let off the accelerator slowly I get a slight judder.

Hi Guys.
Well done on the installations

I fitted one of these a few months back and also had the problems with compressor stalling and juddering when releasing the accelerator at cruise speed.
This is caused by the dump valve.
Had a forge VTA dump valve fitted at the time. Bought a spring and shim kit for it and managed to stop the compressor stalling but still got the juddering.
Its something to do with the volume of air in the system ( about 3 times as much as a top mount ic )
Was told by my Mapper that the juddering was caused by the maf not seeing the air it was expecting from a recirculating DV. This seemed strange to me as the forge VTA worked fine prior to the front mount.
I bought an O/E DV of ebay £5 , fitted it and hey presto runs like a dream, smother than before with the top mount.

Do any of you guys run a VTA DV ?

Hope this helps

Andy

69WRX.
I've still got my recirc DV. I'll give it a go.
Shame to lose the noise though

Grinder..
I had to grind a little bit off the towin eye bracket and the fan shroud.
The rest was massaging with a large hammer

Renno - Take a look at the pics of my car:

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...ighlight=maffa

You will need to grind:
  • A corner from the front o/s to allow the pipework to curve into the wing;
  • A large chunk from underneath on the n/s for the pipe passing underneath & up by the radiator;
  • The two brackets from the front to allow room for the pipes coming from either side of the intercooler;
  • A large hole in the wing;
  • Some of the radiator fan housing (not shown in my pics).

MAFFA, I know these are hybrid look a likes, but why have you cut the inner wing connecting the two original holes? with the Hybrids you don't need to do this.

MY95 has different holes in inner wing than MY97-00...

Hybrids need the hole cutting too: http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...ht=Hybrid+FMIC
