FMIC On ebay for £215...

Looking at a few tunning options inc a FMIC.. Seen them on ebay for the £400 shipped mark and V E R Y similar one on there just now for £215... are these the same kits?

Also if fitting to a V5 STi I would like to try a vta .. for a while anyway... is there any complications when ordering a BOV / VTA once the pipework has been fitted?

Cheers

The Hybrid FMIC is pretty good, costs around £550 ish, not too hard to fit - see Harvey Smith for info. Plenty of people on here got them. Is that the same FMIC you saw? Check where it is coming from, usually high delivery charges and often no hoses / pipework / fitting kit.
Also the Hybrid boost controller is good too for £140.
Wrapped ported headers work well too.

After a FMIC fitted you need perhaps different sized / length pipework to fit the OEM recirc dump valve, but may get away with a VTA one.

Cheers,

Just curious why the price varies sooo much for what appears to be the same item..

Profit mate, and hidden costs - like shipping in from Japan ( you pay ) and just the radiator not full piping kit ... !

Sitll a good price If it comes with the pipework.

I've had lots of deals buying direct from Japan with no issue, many cases saving 50%

Yes you can get stung with customs etc but not always..

Moley 21 July 2005 09:44 AM

I was looking at them last night. I am very tempted, as they look good and it is definately for the whole kit.

The only down side is the 4 - 6 week wait, but i'm sure it'd be worth it

dr_jones 21 July 2005 12:27 PM

I've been watching these too - Seems to be a full kit but the seller seems reluctant to reveal teh manufacturer so I'm unsure of the quality and I don't wannna hack the front of my scoob up to install something cheap 'n' nasty:

Seller says:

" Response from torque_is_cheap
Item: Subaru Impreza FMIC Intercooler Kit - WRX WRC GC8 (7987635276)
This message was sent while the listing was active.
torque_is_cheap is the seller.

"Hello

The kit is made by our main suppliers in Japan who mainly build for street racing and drifting groups. Quality is 100%. "

And then:

"Hı

NO thıs ıs not an AUTOBAHN Kıt"

I messaged him yesterday asking for clarification but as yet no response :(

FMIC

Hi All,

Been looking at adding a FMIC as well, but very confused by all that's on offer.

Basically what is the difference between the FMIC on eBay vs. Hybrid's or are they actaully the same ??.

Does marketing & profit account for the price differential between branded FMIC (HKS etc) vs. hybrid and eBay jobbies ? do the various FMIC perform at similar levels or is noticable differences.

Cheers may sound like a stupid set of questions - but as you know whoever you speak to will push their own FMIC on you !!!

StickyMicky 21 July 2005 03:25 PM

will let you know when mine arrives ;)
mate has a hybrid and when i showed him the pics he told me it looked exactly the same ???

StickyMicky 21 July 2005 03:28 PM

also i belive the wait is because this seller is probably only going to order the kits from the supplier after he has sold them all

dropship style, not to worry tho, i would bet they were the autobahn kits TBF
i had planned to do sumthing simmiler but being so unsure about customs and other hidden charges put me off

£225 deliverd is a good price when it takes out the hassle of having them actually deliverd to the UK IMO

Re: FMIC

Hi,

I have a contact in the UK who sells exactly these FMIC, I think they go for around £295 if you want 4 week delivery or £450 for 2 week delivery !.

I think they are the same ones as quoted above (I/C plus all piping) - the only big difference for me is that he is a UK supplier - so you do not have to worry about duty and taxation and being ripped off.

Also, I assume they come from the far east manufacturer ! I'm just not sure of the quality but according to him the core is larger than the HKS FMIC and it performs better !! hmmm waiting for him to supply data to prove his claim !

If anyone, is interested I'm sure I could get a group buy organised at a reasonable price !

They sell on ebay. Are the same kits as many people use on here.

Just a word of caution. Some of the cheap copies come with mild steel hard pipe kits which, as some have already found to their cost, are inclined to rust inside and out which is unsightly and rust going through your engine and turbo is not a good thing.

Hmmmm... I'm thick.. how can I tell the difference once it has arrived?

Mr Footlong 26 July 2005 12:54 PM

The hard pipe kit is just that afaic, the air piping running from both sides of the intercooler to the engine. Should be fairly easy to spot if that is the case

dr_jones 26 July 2005 01:27 PM

Paaarrrp - mils steel pipes would be bad!! - have asked the seller what the pipe material is and am awaiting a reply....

You should be able to tell Stainless or Aluminium by it being either non-magnetic or in the case of cheapo stainless on very very very slightly magnetic.....(decent stainless is completely non-magnetic)

BTW - Seller has another 5 for sale too....

StickyMicky 26 July 2005 03:40 PM

he had another 10 but they went like hotcakes lol

if the pipe work was mild steel, would it still rust with the oily film which coats the inside of the standerd pipework on most cars?

Hmmm... if it turns out to be ... sh1te... can we get the pipes coated?

I was considering Nickle plating but it doesn't look like it'll be necessary:

Reply from seller:

"The Pipes are polished alloy and the connectors are Silicon

Thanks"

PHEWWW!

In that case... £215 is a bargain. Nuff said. :D

Jolly Green Monster 26 July 2005 11:27 PM

I run steel pipes with no issue.. so even if they are steel.. think it is worrying over nothing.
