BTW - In case anyone wondered - the seller just confirmed the core constuction:

Seller says:

"Hi yes it is bar and plate

Thanks"

Which to me is a great relief - was concerned it might turn out to be tube and fin.....

No not at all - My current Sti V3 TMIC is tube and fin and i believe HKS and the Hybrid new offering is too (?) - they are in general more restrictive to flow that bar and plate - more importantly for me is that bar and plate tends to be more robust so better suited to getting shotblasted by the gravel on all the graveled tar road surfaces we get out in the sticks - jeeeesus you should see the state of the front of my car - looks like someones used it as target practice with a .22 airrifle....

lol.. sounds like where I live..

I currently have very little paint left on the front splitter and a number of marks on the bumper, number plate is cracked in two places with star stone marks, one star stone impact on the windscreen with a 10inch crack running from it..

But the APS FMIC looks fine, just all the black paint is chipping off.. lol

Just a warning for these cheap ebay FMIC kits. My friend Ali purchased the Hybrid brand FMIC for his MY95 WRX. During the installation I wanted to make a few mods to help with service access and fit. The pipe that runs down between the radiator and cam cover needed to be cut. I cut his just below one of the 'factory' welds to add a bit of SAMCO hose. Wow.... the weld was poor. It had ALOT of wire INSIDE the pipe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not sure how many of you are familiar with mig welding but there were several pieces of wire sticking into the air flow path. This usually happens when the two pieces of pipe that are being welded together arent perfectly flat or overlapped. At any time these pieces of wire could break free and get sucked into the FMIC core, turbo or engine. Be carefull, 'cause you get what you pay for.

NOTES:
Took 7 weeks for Ali to receive his Hybrid FMIC
Had to make a few custom support brackets
Needed an adapter to fit his Bailey BOV to the supplied outlet
Had to trim the inner wing
Wouldnt fit with OEM fog lights
VERY tight fit between coolant fan and cam cover

Thats what it was advertised as.... beleive me or not but, I am speaking from 1st hand experience. Besides how many people have actually cut one of the hard pipes? If you didnt, you'd never know.

I've seen Hybrid FMIC kit / fitted, not really the problems described above. Yes, some inner wing cutting ( depends on model ) but no problem with foglights, no extra brackets neeed, Yes, some samco or similar needed to refit recirc dump valve, and delivery was good.

Suppose depends if it was a genuine Hybrid or a copy, and if delivered from UK or overseas.

Ohh yeah, hard pipes were inspected inside and no wire or anything in them ( checked to check weld quality and where best to cut for a small change to fit better with other extra hardware in engine bay).

The kits on e-bay are not really likely to be Hybrid kits, even the jap guys selling proper Hybrid IC alone charge more than that for just the rad!

Has anyone from this purchase actually received one yet from this ebay purchase? - no feedbacks from auction 7987635276 as yet - Type-R mentioned he received his Hybrid kit but I'm presuming though thats a different kit from the £215 FMIC though as:

They're not - the manufacturer remains something of a mystery though I have put the question to the seller several times.....

I checked "My Ebay" last night and noticed the sellers feedback had gone up, one of the new feed back comments was from a GC8 FMIC kit customer, so cant be long now.

Hi mate, good to hear from you. Well a few other bits to do at the same time and a remap.

She's now got an original V5 Spoiler, Defis, Ninja system, HKS SSQV, Induction kit and a few other bits done. Just had lubricant service & generally being pampered. Had her on Knockhill circuit yesterday and felt great. Hope everythings working out for you with the new mota

Blinking flip! Youve turned her into a shuttle! Don't forget the auto deploy drag chute, might need it soon! As for the "HDI of death", it's getting a serial map next week, should take it up to the heady heights of 115bhp! So you might see me in your mirrors on the track soon.....................every time you've just lapped me, lol.

Did you get those pesky brakes sorted afterwards? Narks me how once you fit brakes then the dealers pretty much wash theyre hands of you whatever goes wrong with them, grrr, mumble grumble apple crumble grr, fart burp etc!

Nope still an issue. Looking into Brembo... but failing that new pads & disks. Yep she's great, would rather have a more * aggressive map but drives very well as is. What MPG you getting then... stay away from using the Turbo and you should get some good MPG... too used to the boost tho eh?
