Bob Rawle has said to me that it is good stuff (he should know the amount of cars he sees & maps) I am sure he would see it whilst mapping if it was not.
Floyd has just told me Bletchley now have it as well

Well next weekend I'm off to Wales for the rally - via whatever Tesco's petrol station on the way will have 99 octane fuel. I'm planning on coming past Bedford / MK.
Will any petrol station round those parts have it, or do I have to go to one in particular? Cheers!

As far as the thing goes about it being actually 98 and not 99, well if that's the case then Tesco are in big doo doo now for mis-describing their goods. Every single person who's bought their fuel for a high-octane-needing car can blame any future engine trouble on Tescos selling low octane fuel.
I somehow doubt that it would say 99 if it wasn't. The people who do the marketing of these sort of things are the ones who supply and market petrol for a living... I reckon they might have noticed by now that there are different grades of it, and it's kind of crucial which grade you use. And if they had been selling 98 under the guise of 99, they'd have to be bloody stupid to own up to it now LOL
The only thing that does spring to mind is this - AFAIK 99 RON is NOT the same as 99 OCTANE. Just like many things you can measure, there are different customs and ways of measuring fuel octane which vary from place to place. Two ways of measuring octane are RON and MON for starters. Any petrol techies got the lowdown on this? I can't remember the details.

RON gives the largest numbers, MON gives the lowest, PON is the average of the two. California uses AKI which is similar to PON. US 91 PON is roughly similar to our 95 RON IIRC.
In otherwords, if tesco were using one of the other mesuring schemes, then the RON value would actually be higher than 99.
Unfortunately it's not that simple, since MON (Motor Octane Number) gives a more meaningful value for car use compared to RON (Research Octane Number) and it is possible to make petrol with the same RON but a lower MON, BP Ultimate I am looking at you.
Rumour has it that Tesco are just adding a controlled quantity of methanol to their 95RON to make this stuff. Methanol is a great octane booster but not something I would fancy adding myself since you'll rot your hoses if you get it wrong. So if Tesco can do it for me and do it correctly, that's ok by me.
Now if only Scoobyclinic would hurry up and rebuild my engine
