People having lag issues at start of game and lots of hard drive activity during game, check your pagefile settings.I had the same trouble until I reduced my pagefile from 1024 min/max to 350 min/max.Seems the game was using the pagefile b4 the physical ram. This has solved the problem for several of my squadmates as well.Worth a try.
the resource sucking-ness of this game is of biblical proportions. I mean, really, when I saw HL2.exe sucking up 500 megs I thought "omfg what the hell" but when I see BF2's whopping 750+megs usage... wow.

Popular video cards like the Radeon 9800 Pro and the King Kong-esque GeForce FX 5950 Ultra produced mixed results. In what looks to be the only redeeming feature of the GeForce FX with modern games, the FX can run BF2 at high quality... but the frame rates are still a lacking. This is more than we can say for the Radeon 9800 Pro, as it put up a marvelous one-frame-per-second score in our demo at high quality. To make Battlefield 2 playable, we had to turn down the resolution and quality by quite a few notches. In-game, both cards faired well at 1024x768 with medium settings, but you'll probably want to drop the quality a bit more if you want to maintain higher frame rates.
