ChristianR 26 June 2005 04:02 PM

how do u get the jet to hover ?

cheddar bob 26 June 2005 05:40 PM

hold the "S" key, only the 1 type of plane (the one in the demo) can hover though AFAIK

Geezer 27 June 2005 11:46 AM

Got it on friday, fantastic, but as usual, play online and it's full of 12 year olds who can shoot the cock off a fly at 200 yds!

Still enjoyable though!

Me & a couple of mates from xbox live bought this game too on Friday and installed it no probs. When one of them went to play it, it kept asking for the disc even although it was in. Turns out EA have put copyright protection on the disc that only allows the game to run on recent to new dvd drives, and recommend that updating the firmware on the drive to play.

What a load of sh!te. He's far from being pc literate, and they expect people to do this just to play the game? Typical from EA to make a great game and then ruin it at the last hurdle. Christ, they made a right mess of Burnout 3 on xbox at launch.

Anyways, the joke was on them. Got him to install alcohol 120%, he made an image of the disc and created a virtual dvd drive on his pc. Game now runs fine without the dvd disc at all.

May be of some use if anyone has the same problem.

P.S. C4 at flag, go up on roof . . . wait . . . wait . . . Enemy "KABOOM" has me in stiches every time.

chrome 27 June 2005 06:08 PM

playing as medic using defib to kill unaware enemies beats that ;)

Fantastic game.

Big improvement overall in the graphics department.
Amazing sound (especially on my DTS setup).
FINALLY some actual foliage to hide in that enemy tanks and other infantry have a hard time to see you. My long standing complaint with BF1942 was that terrain had a bush here - a bush there. If you got caught out in the open next to a tank you were toast. Now you have half a chance by trying to hide in the long grass or a bush. Really pleased they added this - much more realistic IMO

There are also some lovely additions to the game that make it much more enjoyable than the first....using the satellite as a Commander to watch in real time enemy movements is fantastic.

Also how real does the water look??? :eek2:

I love it so much I'm upgrading my graphics card so i can enjoy it in all its beauty.

Chump :)

Is it more GPU intensive than D3 or HL2?

stiscooby 28 June 2005 09:31 PM

Am I right in saying you need an up to date video card to run this. I have a 128Mb GeForce 3Ti and I can't get it to run.............is my graphics card too old now?

chump 28 June 2005 10:00 PM

Taken from bit-tech.net

The minimum requirement is a Shader 1.4 card with at least 128MB of memory: ATI gamers will need a Radeon 8500 or higher, and NVIDIA fans will need a GeForce 5700 or above - a GeForce 4 Ti won't do Shader 1.4 unfortunately.

I'd say more than both (D3 just though) IMO.

I struggle with this @ 1024x768 - low, but could manage HL2 on 1280x1024 - low easily plus D3 on 1024x768 - medium.

Im a hearing you on FM mate ! Unfortunately, I have a woman, job, fast car, 9month old little boy and 5million other things to fart around with before I can sit down and try to **** people online - as such I'm not in a clan or someother group and just get shot...A LOT !

Yet I still buy the games and enjoy playing !!!

MJW 29 June 2005 11:57 AM

I've been running it on a slightly overclocked Radeon 9600 Pro 128Mb and it seems to run ok with medium detail levels at 1024*768 and 2x AA (I also have a gig of ram and 2.4ghz P4 chip).
I think you really need a 256Mb card to run it with all the sauce though, so I'm just looking at Nvidia 6800GT cards now ... Another gig of ram probably wouldn't go amiss either ..

Incidentally our BF clan has a ranked BF2 server up and running now, the IP is 85.236.100.25:14567 (Multiplay) if anyone fancies a blast. It will be locked Monday and Wednesday nights for clan practice, but its open to the public most other days. And we try and keep the 12 year olds off it so all us old gits can survive longer :D

DrEvil 29 June 2005 12:07 PM

Hmm.. better go and buy this then, retail therapy is a distraction at the moment.

Should run ok on my FX53/6800GT, cool.

chump 29 June 2005 08:29 PM

would be interesting to here anyone else's experiences. I have 1GB PC3200 RAM in my setup and while playing BF2 the game uses ALL of the free memory. Sometimes the game slows a little while the system pages :(

So it looks like you really do need 2GB of RAM as a few people have been speculating on other boards that I go on....

KeithRS 30 June 2005 12:00 AM

I run it on a P4 3.2(800), 1 gig corsair twin x, and an ATI radeon (saphire) 9600xt 256MB and it runs fine at full res. Though jerky screen movements, and screen freezing should be classed as server lag and not hardware related. My only gripe with this game is the lack of UK based servers offering sub 150 ping times for smooth gameplay.

That, and the annoying c**ts who get one shot kills. Sometimes i feels as if i've been issued a water pistol.

Just downloading now, hope it will be worth it with only a p4 2.4 512 ram and 128mb 9800 pro?

ChristianR 30 June 2005 03:33 PM

yeah u will be able to run 1024 in med res.

Neanderthal 30 June 2005 03:36 PM

You'll see a big difference if you can go to 1-1.5Gb ram
The 9800pro will handle it fine.

Bravo2zero_sps 30 June 2005 03:41 PM

cheers guys :thumb: think its time for more ram, what are prices like currently for a 1gb chip for a p4 motherboard? haven't a clue what type the 512 is I have in there now without checking.

DrEvil 30 June 2005 05:01 PM

Nuts - sold out in Tesco :(

I've got a P4 2.66 with 1GB ram and a 128MB 9800 Pro also but I'm really struggling with this tbh at 1024x768 on high and even on medium my fps don't seem very good?

It's making me think about upgrading my CPU but then I'll need a new motherboeard etc etc and it's all too much £££ :(

Bravo2zero_sps 30 June 2005 05:19 PM

ok well got it thanks to my newly installed today 2mb adsl line at work thats only for me :D :norty: and taking it home to try tonight - but not expecting great results though.

Bravo2zero_sps 30 June 2005 11:14 PM

Wasn't great :( Had it on 1024x768 with everything set to medium and it ran poorly with occasional sticking. Was doing a single player game so not a lot of action going on. If it was online with a lot happening I should imagine it would be unplayable.

Going to have to turn it all down which is a joke bearing in mind I bought the 9800 pro at a time when it was supposed to still be a good card (was about £130 don't know what they are now) certainly can't afford the latest mega bucks card and the 9800 pro has hardly been used since I got it (for FarCry) so waste of money

Looks a cracking game but you need to have buckets of cash to spend on the highest spec to play it to its potential :(

TopBanana 01 July 2005 08:26 AM

WHat the hell's up with the server selection screen in this game? Slow as hell! :o

Neanderthal 01 July 2005 08:48 AM

My 9800pro works fine in high detail and 1024x768. Got a Althon 2500+ running at 3200 and 1.5Gb ram. Don't bin the card!!
