Keep up with the feedback as that is what we need if we are going to expand on the NBO concept


Weather was out of our control despite ordering it in advance we have been very lucky in the last 2 years

Im now faced with the dilema of changing it toA July /August but that is no guarentee of hot weather and we then get into the holiday season and probably the risk of fewer numbers

so I will try to order the sun for next year but as a backup fetch addional clothing addional

suppliers again leaves us frustrated ,with our loyal following of regular suppliers who have supported us for 3 yeards now

They seem very happy ,as to introduce new ones selling similar items would only dilute their sales on the day

Behind the scenes we have wrote over 50 letters to potential suppliers with

NO RESPONSE so judgeing by that what to we do ?

we are not a hugh money making machine like JAP /Max Power shows with our set up cost virtually nothing and profits going to charity

so do we continue to try to get more suppliers ?
Again we will be looking for the NBO 4 but possibly we are northern based and a lot of suppliers cant justify the travel to the NBO
It will be interesting on our fact finding mission to the Southern Big One if they can attract more.


One success was the introduction of Club Stands which was greately supported by the 7 that entered

This has really generated lots of interest and Competion

well done to the LADS but it was a close competion and that is an area we are going to develop more for the NBO 4

thanks go the the club organisers and a lot more space will be allocated for next year as they were forming lines to get into the LADS and WYIOC stands

Just to echo John's comments...................................

For the Original NBO and subsequent NBO2, I personally wrote out to every Subaru related parts supplier I could find in all the car related mags. I sent over 50 letters to firms asking them to consider attendance at the NBO and still we get no response. I am stumped as to how to get these trade stands to attend.

We were a little unlucky this year as 3 suppliers that were expected to attend pulled out and left us a little 'thin on the ground'.

The club stands where a great success and I am sure we will see bigger and better stands next year.

The parking of the cars is always going to be an issue, as due to the logistics of parking 400 cars in a limited amount of time, we are forced to place people 'as they arrive' and can't park cars in groups. Well done to the marshalls that managed the parking so efficiently.
The field was starting to get a little congested as it is, if we had got the expected 500 cars, it may have become a little cramped.

Well done to everyone who made the day a success.

I enjoyed the day too, glad you rasied a good amount

I was dissapointed that the Grade A Rally car was doing handbrake turns/donuts right near my car, and 3 children playing, and could have quite easily got hit

NOT a good advert for a company, or for the NBO

Also to the stupid idiot in our convoy who probably thought it was great to drive in the middle of the road on a blind bend with 2 cars coming the other way, forcing them out of the way, just as i was about to open my car door, to have it nearly taken off

We had all parked up as we were lost, and stopped for some *ahem* relief in the fields

Not impressed at all by that, it was a stickered up newage that did that, a stupid foolish manouvre that could have caused a serious accident, about time you sold it and starting using public transport !!!!

those two things are what spoilt a good day out (despite the weather being cold)

ninnybobs and lordharding.... looking at things from the other side of the fence re. suppliers ... would be interesting to get the thoughts from a sales perspective from people that did have trade stands at the event. Was it worth their while? , Did they do a lot of business etc etc?
Maybe get them to vent some views on the board. After all if they arent getting sales etc then they are not going to want to show at these types of events.

I know nothing is ever guaranteed from a sales view as its what people want on the day, however, lower that normal retail prices etc can make people hold off some kit if they know they can get it cheaper at an event.

Just a thought thats all.

Just want to added a massive well done to everyone organising the event, it was our first outing as a club to NBO as we only formed August 2004. We all had a great time dispite the weather.
I wasn't aware of the club stand competition but will try harder next year to see if we might sneak an award
As far as the event i'd just echo the already raised comments but if traders don't reply to letter what can you do.We had 6 cars on the stand which seemed about right nice and fair that way if there is a competition if one stand has 15 cars and another 3 well then the odds are a bit one sided.We seemed very busy all day getting over run a few times.So untill next year.

You have an excellent point, and would welcome any comments, good or bad from any of the suppliers present on the day, or even the ones that were not.

My theory was that suppliers would be prepared to attend the NBO for the profile it would give to their company, not the amount of money that they took on the day.
Bearing in mind the amount of money that 'we' the scoob owning public will be spending in the forthcoming year, I thought that any suppliers would want to promote their company at an event such as this.
I know that I am more likely to buy my next mods from one or more of the suppliers attending the NBO.

Lets have some response from the retailers then.

A very nice car, had to take some pics of it . Tell him it's a very nice car with 2 people here talking about how stunning it is lol, mind you there was loads of Scoobs yesterday that had me with my jaw on the ground as to how nice they are.

 

Excellent day Congratulations on the organisation and sum raised. It must be impossible to judge the car(s) of the day so maybe you could have a separate show and shine area for those who want to enter it next year. Number restrictions might be necessary, though Re suppliers, I spent a fair bit and it's good to see parts before you buy and also try for fit eg I fancied the Milsport stainless inlet pipe but Revolution didn't know if it would fit with my APS caik so I was able to try it...and it didn't. Still bought some shiny bits though

Well done - see you next year (don't see much point in changing the date just because we had one cold but dry day)

Third time (un)lucky for the rain unfortunately but I still got a slight tan on the bonce - not a great deal of thatch for protection on mine

I didn't know that members of clubs with stands were grouping around their own stands - was this just an "unofficial" break away from the massed ranks or something planned as it would have saved a trek across the field with the cool box etc as I'd got in early and bagged a first row place

 

Yes it was rumoured 20 WYIOC cars invaded the field and set up their own line

all good fun and part of the NBO Experience !!!

I'd like to add a supplier's perspective if I may (Jap Innovations)

Firstly though thanks to Lord Harding et al for organising a very enjoyable and worthwhile day for the charity in question. Good to see so many cars despite the weather and nice to see a few familiar faces too.

As far as these shows go, as a trader they are never going to be an opportunity to make mega bucks. In fact by the time you've taken out the costs of standing, getting there, all the equipment you need etc, plus paying your staff for working a sunday, there usually isn't much left out of any profits made.

In fact a good show is usually one where you just break even. Some can end up costing you.

We view shows more as getting our name out and being seen and socialising with owners, rather than an earning exercise.

With respect to the comments about what is available, there is only so much stuff you can bring and you can't please everyone. You can guarantee whatever you don't bring is what you get asked for on the day.

If people have any suggestions of what they would like to see more of, we would be grateful, but we are aware that most people have little in the way of cash on them at days like these and so we tend to take more of the cheap items that people usually have enough for in their wallets. We also bring things that we think people will find of interest to look at such as the Tein coilover kits which are a beautiful piece of kit to look at and which a photo on a website cannot do justice to.

The 2 things we sold most of on the day were car mats and octane booster, so that kind of explains why, from a supplier's point of view, it is best to take more iof this kind of stuff and less exotica (FMICs and the like).

Overall though we all thoroughly enjoyed the day and hope everyone enjoyed our stand, especially the supercharged 2.0 sport which seemd to attract a lot of interest.

It was a Sport? ***kin ell! Fantastic looking car - probably my personal favourite of the day, as a fellow DBM owner I'm now sorely tempted by a carbon bonnet.

 

This was my first NBO and both me and our lass enjoyed it, defo be there next year. Well done Martin and John. Next year Martin u will have to get one of those outfits the models were wearing for suzzie

Good to get a suppliers POV as i thought there werent really enough stands or enough going on. Please thats not an insult at all, i just think that the reputation of the NBO has exceeded the growth maybe and thats a compliment to all who took part and organised this great event.

Maybe its worth increasing the stall capacity and promoting the stall holders on a thread for next year, perhaps each stall holder could ply their wares before the event, on here so as to create more interest and give the suppliers a chance to gauge what they need to bring with them

Just a thought, i may be talking sh1te, but well done everyone, especially Mr. Wild and his "sport" On a personal note i thought that DBA brakes are an excellent choice of kit after reading the write up and "spiel" on them, cant wait to get some

 

Blackadder that was a great idea about promoting the supppliers products before the NBO as long as the scoobynet mods dont see that as un authorised advertising and ban it !!!

this is exactly the sort of feedback we are looking for to make the NBO4 the best one yet

I do agree about small cash and Carry lines being the best sellers on the day as the big items normally have to be ordered and sneaked into the house/car without wifes spotting them

 

As I posted in another thread I think fenceing off the field that we are in would be a good idea for the next NBO, as a few of us walked down to have a nosey at the RSOC area only to be told that we would have to pay £4 each to get in, where as anybody from the that section could just walk straight into the field where we were all situated and have a wander round

 

A bit of fencing and stopping people in cars other than subarus parking up in the field would be good, other than that, a great day out.

I think SMACS will have to get more members up there next year, get a few marquees, BBQ's and bunting and do a bit of self promotion!!

All the NBO needs now is a website and a logo to promote itself, with links to the charities its helped over the years, and perhaps some mug shots of the organisors, to give them some recognition for their hard work over the year getting the event organised!

Thanks to Rich Wild for the comments... I never really thought of all the costs associated with getting there, which must be a lot by the time you add them up. All credit to you for going to the event though, I loved seeing the Supercharged sport you had on display. The company name is sure to stick in my head for future reference, so I guess the stall at NBO3 served its purpose.

Moving on...
I think the idea of fencing off the field and charging to get in is a great idea. Perhaps personally I think £4 is on the high side, perhaps more like £2.50 to £3. At least the money raised would be going to charity and not in someones back pocket ala the RS club so maybe you could get away with a £4 charge

On the subject of having suppliers etc sport their wares on here or another suitable place before the event I think thats an ace idea. I obviously cannot speak for the webmaster and admins of this site, but maybe they would be willing to relax the rules a little given the charitable nature of the event. Anyhow thats up to them

Once again great day out thanks to all those that went, the suppliers and of course the guys/gals who made it possible. Me and the wife really enjoyed it.

Having spoken with one of the regional RSOC guys, it would seem they had to pay £1200 for the use of the field whereas ours was free due to the NBO being a charity event.
That said, it would be a sensible idea if our days clash in the future to charge the RS boys like for like.
This will obviously benefit the chosen charities.
