As this (yet another) Floyd thread likely to be read by Floyd fans... what contemporary groups do you listen to of the same genre?
My current favourites are Porcupine Tree and Pineapple Thief

There are no contemporary bands that compare in any way.
(Except maybe that Glastonbury band - what are they called? And Radiohead... maybe....)
Personally I'm discovering the Mahavishnu Orchestra at the moment. I've tried to like them a few times in the past without much success. This time 'round I finally appreciate their brilliance. Highly recommended advanced rock 'fusion' music!

Cheers for the comments folks
For the recording i used my beloved usa Strat (what else), Boss Gx700, Fender Princeton Chorus amp, lined into my old Fostex X-28 Multitrack.
Can't take credit for the backing track though that was off an old Total Guitar magazine cd i had

Good guitar work - I'm glad the backing track wasn't you, 'cos it sucked!

Spiritualized while making a good racket are hardly contempory. More like 90's band.

(Actually, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs ARE rubbish, but that's another art-punk story entirely)

Echoes
Been playing this in my car recently, yes it is a bit disjointed for those of us who remember the original running order, but wow, its sooooo good to hear all those tracks again. Truely great sounds.

Obviously meddle is a seminal work, but what's this about them screwing up the running order.
You people should keep it real on vinyl- old skool stylee. CD's are for those without discernment.
LP12+ good pressing will boot any CD system into touch.

You reckon? CD's suck not just as objects but in terms of their sound quality.
They offer extremely poor VFM all round. As an ownership prospect I'd prefer my digital media on HDD.
That said I'm yet to demo any of the super CD's or whatever they're called. I'll also admit that my knowledge of high end CD ends at the Meridian player my mate is always banging on about. It didn't sound all that compared to a side by side of my LP12+Naim Armageddon+Ekos+Asak Mk 2.
But as I hate CD's it's academic, I'm probably so biased that I'd say it was worse even if in a blind audition it was better.

I wondered how the hell they'd screwed up the second side of Meddle. Imagined fades and interspersed with bits from other albums.
If it's a compilation I wouldn't know about that. The only Pink Floyd compilation I own is the original pressing of "Relics" .

Pink Floyd *must* always be heard in correct performance order.
