Pink Floyd

Recently acquired a copy of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon. Currently my fav album and haven't had it out of the player :)

Just wondering which other albums they've done are worth buying.

Cheers,

Rik.

Wish You Were Here is worth a listen.

InvisibleMan 15 March 2005 03:55 PM

Division Bell

A momentary lapse of reason is also pretty good as is the slightly strange but classic "The Wall"

1pi$$edoff BMW_Owner 15 March 2005 03:56 PM

Atom Heart Mother

TelBoy 15 March 2005 03:57 PM

The Wall.

Can we just say "all of them?" :D

Jap2Scrap 15 March 2005 03:58 PM

Yeah, either all of them, or just buy "Echoes"...

adding that Echoes kind of loses the thread of the original albums as it takes each track as an individual tune in most cases.

16vmarc 15 March 2005 04:01 PM

altho technically all the tracks on Echos are interwined ;)

They're still playing 'Shine on you crazy diamond' in pubs today!!

Most of them are I agree, but not with the same ones and with the same 'flow' as on their original albums.

I'm sure you know what I mean.

Alan C 15 March 2005 04:08 PM

Or Pulse. Their Earls Court Live set... Brilliant. Especially the last track 'Run Like Hell'.. Hairs on the back of the neck.. etc..

Synthesiser Patel 15 March 2005 04:12 PM

Also, not to be forgettings...

Obscured By Clouds
Ummagumma
More

If you're thinking of buying Echoes buy Pulse instead, stunning Live album some tracks sound better than the originals, + its got all of DSOTM Live on disc 2 :D

If ever a Live concert should be released on Full 5.1 DTS its Pulse, don't be fooled by the crap forgeries on E-bay.

rik1471 15 March 2005 04:21 PM

Cheers, so that's all of them :) - CDWOW are going to like me today :)

Markus 15 March 2005 04:22 PM

Rosie is a bit of a PF fan, and I don't mind them either.

You've got DSOTM, so that rules out that choice.

WYWH gets another vote from me.

The Wall, well, goes without saying really. "Is Anybody Out There" is one of the Live versions and includes tracks that are not on the normal The Wall album, very good it is too.

Pulse, yup, that's good, though most of the stuff on disc 2 is essentally a live version of DSOTM, but it's worth it.

Division Bell, very good too.

Echoes - Good 'sampler' for want of a better term, has early stuff and later stuff on it. I'm not a fan of the early stuff, ala "Bike", "Arnold Lane", but you might like it.

Ummagumma is meant to be fantastic too, not got a copy but co-worker has and I'm about to connect to his shared iTunes collection to have a little listen.

unclebuck 15 March 2005 04:22 PM

Don't forget the DSOTM documentary:

I saw it for sale on DVD in HMV today.

Cheers, I love finding quality new(to me) music/bands :)

davedipster 15 March 2005 04:35 PM

Get Dark side of the moon on Hybrid Cd/Sacd, and turn it up.
AMAZING STUFF in full 5.1 surround!

No because everything after "The Wall" sucked.

Best Album- Piper at the gates of dawn

Worst- Final Cut or Division Bell.

TelBoy 15 March 2005 04:47 PM

Oh stop - Division Bell is a classic

That's like saying everything after "Green" by R.E.M. was rubbish - it wasn't, they just took a different direction, instead of producing another identical album.

DJ Dunk 15 March 2005 04:59 PM

Division Bell was just plain wrong.

Meddle is where its at IMO :)

<rolls another fat one>

D0ctorWho 15 March 2005 05:00 PM

Division Bell- a classic? Not on your nelly.

Pink Floyd without Roger Waters are nothing but a tribute band who recorded some lame songs and sold them to ex-yuppies who should have known better. It was a dross album. The only thing of note is the quality of it's production which is as good as it gets.

I'd say everything before *and* after 'Green' was rubbish.

:D;)

InvisibleMan 15 March 2005 05:36 PM

Division Bell was more for the mainstream audience rather than their other 'wierd sh1t' as others who are not into PF would say (as its the wall/dsotm that most have heard of so class PF as weird).

Plus DB has Stephen Hawkin in it

Totally agree, that is the best cd I own, sit in comfy sofa crank it up it, totally blows me away just like PF were in my lounge, it also sounds great through 2 channel, put a normal CD on after listening to this and you'll think youre equipment has packed up.

Business Class :notworthy

Everything after New adventures In Hi-Fi actually ;)

InvisibleMan 15 March 2005 05:53 PM

i did like REM until they got a 5 record deal where they were given full control & last say for their albums - just seemed too pretentious - minimal thought to their album covers...

Funkii Munkii 15 March 2005 05:58 PM

'Green' was rubbish
Disagree, you can't beat a bit of Green, especially when listening to DSOTM on SACD ;)

fatherpierre 15 March 2005 06:31 PM

Green's a pretty good album......

DB is utter rubbish.

To be honest, the only thing I've liked of theirs after Green was New Adventures In Hi-Fi .... mind you, no-one else seems to like it, so don't take my recommendation as meaning anything at all.

Got to see them a few years ago, Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour, still high from the strange and weird stuff being smoked around me.

It was not just a concert but an experience!!!!!

Don't forget Final Cut. Because it was all angst and dispair.
