From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
starts smoking and bending itself,
Clarke (red) impact guns arent much use.. infact they are better used as weapons against car thieves.. apparently..
I have a CP one which is 100 times better (no lie!!) but the snap on power to the people limited edition one needs a HSE warning its that powerfull!! (joke (well HSE bit was!))
Just returned from another 6 hours of work on the car. Tomorrow will attempt to remove the engine and then drop the box.
Couple of things
The engine mounts, is it easist to release them from the front subframe by the one bolt?
Used a large socket with the 6mm thread bolt through it to pull the clutch arm out, after spending 30 mins trying to pull it out by hand.
All the bolts have loosened up with the air wrench, which is good news.
Used the new 60cm breaker bar to free off the suspension uprights and release the drive shafts.
If someone could list the proceedure for engine removal I'd appreciate it, just to check I've not missed anything.
Will take some pictures tomorrow
PS Got a lift home in my mates 645i awesome car.

Yes, just unscrew the mountings to cross member bolts.
Why did you not undo the lower ball joints of the front wishbone/upright to 'spread' the drive shafts?
Take the rad out, watch out for the A/C rad, very easy to hit it.
The fit is very close to the chassis rails of the engine. Pipes and wires EVERYWHERE so take notes...
You still have to get the box off the dowls yet
Scooting round in BMW's will do you no good at all, but you will be faster when it's all done (and you have recovered).
Press-on.

Well managed to lift the engine out once I'd removed the 5th gearbox bolt
As you can see from the pictures of the clutch and as suspected by a few people, the AP clutch has had the centre ripped out
so hopefully they will take that back.
Anyway its our 1st wedding anniversary so best get back to the wife, will add some more dialogue tomorrow.

Engine out, now begins the fun part.
Should have a bit more done this week with BH. Plan to strip the parts off needed for the conversion, mainly the sump, pickup and cam covers.

Decided tonight to lose the aircon to save weight.
AP are going to look at the clutch and they agree that it's unusual for an Impreza to rip the centre out, so hopefully they will supply a new friction plate.
Graham using a Link ECU mapped by Bob so hopefully it will just need a tweak

AP have refused to replace the friction plate, due to the fact that I've been sprinting the car. I did point out that the last event was in October and the clutch went in December while driving like Miss Daisy on the A21.
My advice from this incident is if your are using an AP organic clutch and it explodes, don't mention, track days, hillclimbs, drag racing or sprinting as this "invalidates" the warranty (road traffic light drag racing is allowed) . This is not an issues for me as I have a spare friction plate and was worth a try for the cost of P&P.
Right were is that 6 speed.

I don't think so, as Mark at AP clearly stated that the organic kits were for road use only & I should be using a paddle clutch if I was going to do any track action.

If your clutch does go, if you need a hand changing it i would be happy to lend a hand.
The clutch is going to be the next major thing to do in my car so wouldn't mind seeing how it's done first hand.
I'm only in south Brum so not far from you.
Hope for your sake it stays in one piece though!
Dan.

Danny, thanks for the very kind offer.
Anyone who has done the dreaded gearbox out job would keep a good distance away!
What gets me is the AP sprung organic centre probably has the same centre plate as the paddle version...
Time will tell.

No.
A REAL leak is when you thought that you had drained all the oil, put the box onto it's bell housing as it takes less space upright, only to find a bloody great lake of Hypoid oil all over the floor. And it all came out of the filler tube...
Who said a 5 speeder only takes 4 litres? I found 40 at least...
Get on with it Mark, I start racing in 2 weeks time, so you must be at it soon?

Remember it weighs 30Kg more than the 5 speeder.
Are you going to assemble it onto the engine out of the car and thread it all in through the bonnet?
David at API recons this is no advantage. (in time) but it does let the engine hoist take the strain.
Good luck!
Graham.
