They are just p1ssed off that they spunked £34k on a new MR340 when they could have had the same power for £18k with a 260.

Even if you were that **** that you refused to drive the car because it had a small spoiler you can still upgrade it...who would know the difference then?
After all I see plenty of WRX's on the road with STi stickers so what is the difference?

Totally agree, I don't particularly like the look of either car, but the smaller spoiler looks a bit more discreet. As most EVO owners don't care one jot for the warranty an MR340 looks like a staggering waste of money.

It is indeed unfair but as an STI 05 owner it is a evil we must endure because sti in standard form totally gets its **** kicked in a straight line by evo 260s. It's a fact.

Jap performance magazine did a review on MY05 STi PPP Vs Evo MR340...

Not a lot of difference in performance low down, the EVo couldn't get away until it got to about 80mph. For the difference in price, i'd stick to the scooby.

From that review, no comparison between the Evo 260 and the PPP'd STi. Impreza wins outright.

Damn that must really p1ss you off after spending the best part of £25k on a new 05 STi that these nearly new 260's available for £16k can "kick your **** in a straight line" (your words not mine)
I feel for you, I really do

Bobby

We have quoted the same figures as when I last did a set of figures for an STi (WR1 actually) everybody called me a liar and said the figures were unacheivable.............

They obviously weren't as I did them on my first run and I didn't see any point doing any more as it wouldn't get faster.

They are a perfomance bargain of the year if you ask me, and the only fault people can find with them is the small spoiler big deal. Have people not seen the dodgy thing on the back of a WRX ?[/QUOTE]

Most people who buy these cars want them to look like rally replicas or at least like the dearer versions (ie Evo 340 or Sti). To upgrade to an original Sti rear wing costs £850, got quoted £1900 to get the big wing on an Evo, so add another grand to your bill. But the people with Sti's don't have to upgrade, so make that £1900, and the comparison was made between new for new, not "how about a new STi and an Evo 260 that's already taken the depreciation hit"

I started to write a long reply but I scrubbed it out as I may be seen as Scooby bashing.

The 260 is the bottom of the range Evolution and it beats the top of the range Impreza STi (non PPP) enough said I think.

Not according to the websites Danny http://www.mitsubushi-cars.co.uk/evolution/specifications.asp?strCar1= and http://www.subaru.co.uk/IMGGB/WWW?Su...F?opendocument , perhaps in ultimate cornering ability, but I prefer how to tell a car to go round a corner how I choose, not how some electronic brain decides for me, call it more challenging for real life drivers.

26 grand!! , no It doesn't really **** me off. If however after spending another 2 grand on ppp it still gets its **** kicked..... yes I'll be peeved... hence the debate.
The evo 260 is indeed a performance bargain.

So, you've never driven it, but you don't like it.

What exactly makes you think you're qualified to talk about a car you've never driven?

Since the 260 was released Rizzy!

Ok, it is kak on the inside and is a little more like Major Tom in his tin can. But the Evo 260 will spank a standard STI on the straights and the corners.............oh ....and if you do not like driver aids, buy a car like Fred Flintstones!

theres no way a 260 will spank n sti on a corner or on a strait it has water'd down suspension.

if this is the case then it comes as a great shock to me,but i'd have to see it for my self to belive it.

sti all the way and driver aid's are for women.

Evo mag , hmm the 260 hits 60 in an "amazing" 6.1 secs and 100 in 15.6, sounds like Clio Cup territory to me

ALL mags have tested the standard STI faster than the 260 in a straight line.

Oh I forgot you have all done "back to back tests"......

ok ok....... it may not spank the 05 STI on the corners....now that we have that fancy SPEC C suspension and all that.......... but I think it would probably pip the STI for ultimate cornering ability.

Back to Mike.... you said the figures were quoted for a run in a WR1..........correct me if I'm wrong, but that is not a PPP STI is it???..........................I thought the WR1 was a little fruitier and a little quicker???

No but every time i follow my friends evo 260 I might as well be driving a clio cup! My sti has however only done 2900 miles but when i see him gaining on me coming out of roundabouts his performance advantage is staggering, perhaps i should have thrashed the old girl from day one...... Is running in a load of pants? have i created a slow car?

Sounds like you are slow, not the car . Why not take it to a track and test the limits?

Staggering?
Even a 30hp difference between the SAME cars wouldnt see much of a difference on the road. A good driver can easily claw that back.

To make you feel a little better, I ran my WRX PPP in carefully and it is only just come on song at about 6-7k miles
