05 STI Type UK PPP V's EVO 260

Hi Folks,

Can anyone reliably tell me how the 05 STI Type UK PPP would fair against the EVO 260 in terms of acceleration only please.

Looking for someone who has had a tussle with the Evo.

Not interested in getting magazine figures quoted to me.

Thanks

Bob.

Bubba po 10 March 2005 09:10 PM

LOL. What a strange post. The number of users who own an 05sti type uk PPP, even on this forum, will be fairly small. The number of users with an MR 260 are likely to be fewer still. Multiply the two unlikelihoods together to get the probability that members of these two groups of users have done a real-world quantitative comparison and you'll get a very rarefied group indeed. If you were even to score an unlikely hit, you'll probably get some ill-thought-out subjective bull rather than anything useful.

I'd go for some real road-test stats if I were you. :D

BOBBY G 10 March 2005 09:13 PM

Oh well,

in 2 weeks time I will give the definitive answer when me and my buddy have a tussle!

chrisp 10 March 2005 09:15 PM

maybe a touch longer as you need to run them in

Bubba po 10 March 2005 09:15 PM

Ooh, y' spawny get!

I can only afford a MY99 Uk turbo. :(

chrisp 10 March 2005 09:16 PM

you will find until it got about 5K miles on the engine, it will be very tight

Think yourself luck I only have a dodgy grey import, does have 270bhp/ton though ;)

AndyC_772 10 March 2005 09:17 PM

Why do you really care anyway?

ex-webby 10 March 2005 09:18 PM

I would have to give my MY03 STi PPP away if a 260 EVO beat it on acceleration! ;)

Regards,
Shaun.

BOBBY G 10 March 2005 09:20 PM

I am running in at the moment. luckily though, my Brother is nearing 3000 miles and about to PPP his. You are right about them being tight! I reckon it will take 10k to get nicely bed in.....

Foxmod 10 March 2005 09:40 PM

Mine's on 26K and going very well thank-you, caught a FQ-300 out the other day ;)

BOBBY G 10 March 2005 09:45 PM

Good lad Foxmod !

Just make sure you don't get heat soak waiting for him ;)

Harry_Boy 10 March 2005 10:57 PM

No contest....

Driven 04 STI PPP and Evo 260 on the same day, and the Scoob is far far faster.... At least in a straight line... :D

You haven't seen "Fat Fighters" on "Little Britain" then? :)

Your post certainly wasn't in English. :) Then again, Manchester... that's where chaos. hails from, innit?

I would second that, I have driven both and yes the STI PPP would beat the pants off the Evo 260, the Evo is strangled with both induction and exhaust.
It also only has a 5 speed box, I kept trying to change into reverse thinking it was sixth.
Change the induction and exhaust and things would be differant. 330bhp is farly common output for £2k of modding.

forest172 11 March 2005 08:12 AM

I think pitching these together is unfair.

Why not compare it with a standard STI.

This place continues to astound me...statisical experts as well! :D. Anyways, did the maths of above and it equals " A bloke down the pub". Amazing. ;)

Bubba po 11 March 2005 10:11 AM

I got the same result, Trashman. Spooky. :D

BOBBY G 11 March 2005 10:58 PM

I think the quotes of the STI beating the pants off are nonsense!
and they were made from some very extensive " I drove one and then the other" tests!!!

what a load of pants.

I had an 02 STI PPP a few weeks back and it takes the exact same distance to get to 105mph as the EVO 260... and that is fact from loads of runs. Are you telling me that the new 05 STI is somehow miraculously incredibly faster than the 02?

and another thing..... prodrive quote 4.6 to 60mph.... was that on a day where the ambient temp was - 20 degrees centigrade... with a tail wind of 1oomph?...................because every mag I have read cannot get near it........ and 0 - 60 times are quoted by school boys with zits!... they mean hee haw!

The beauty of the Evo 5 speed is that all the time the STI is stirring the box, the evo is on the charge!

pah!

MikeWood 12 March 2005 12:04 AM

Bobby

4.6 was the slowest...... and it was into the wind. :) :)

05STi PPP faster than an 02STi PPP? Definately :)

Mike

TonyBurns 12 March 2005 12:06 AM

Mike wouldnt the headwind be an advantage as your getting more air onto the intercooler ;)

Tony:D

BOBBY G 12 March 2005 08:23 AM

If the 05 is faster than the 02, then why are prodrive quoting the same figures for acceleration? ...(or aren't they???)

Danny B 12 March 2005 08:26 AM

yes but spend £1,750 on a stage 1 tune for the EVO260 and you have a car with more power than a WR1.
They are a perfomance bargain of the year if you ask me, and the only fault people can find with them is the small spoiler  big deal. Have people not seen the dodgy thing on the back of a WRX ?

Danny,
This is true, but you also loose your 3 year warranty where with the PPP you dont :D

Tony:D

PS and those Evo260's depreciate like a mondeo

Danny B 12 March 2005 10:05 AM

Tony,
That's why they are such a bargain, £16k for a 6 month old car with 4,000 miles on the clock is incredibly cheap. Chuck a stage 1 tune on and you have a reliable 335bhp all for under £18k

Pat Herborn is now doing EcuTek mapping for the 260, well actually for the all the VIII's so combine this with a full de-cat exhaust from H&S and you almost have a warranty friendly way of getting 320bhp as the map is a re-flash of the OEM ecu which dealers can't pickup on.

I'm telling you, these cars are a complete steal at the moment.

Buy one, but make sure you don't register on the MLR, the inbreds will then call you a homosexual
