Having now had the mosfortune of dealing with a dealer again, I know have my wipers cleaned (made no difference so will just replace them myself), and the supplying dealer telling the servicing dealer that he knew nothing about it. Unfortunately, the supplying dealer has now gone massively down in my opinion. Git!

Rattles I can cope with -= I'll just do them myself. Now it look slike I'll be changing wipers on a brand new car. It's patheric really...

Just picked up my MY05 SL today, Very pleased even if I can't give it a boot for the next K. On the way back it started to rain was not looking forward to getting the wipers going. I must be the lucky, one no problems worked a treat, and I have had the protective cover done.

I do have one question though, in the service book it states first 1000 free service, but my dealer said it was going to cost about £50.00? Whats right the book or the dealer, not that I care, but Fifty quid is another tank of gas = more fun. Looking forward to getting to grips with my new toy much fun to be had I think.

I got my first ever Scoob today - black four door MY05 WRX. Jaw dropping. Amazingly the wife loves its as much as me! Only issues were trivial really. Small scuff on the steering wheel - about about 12 o'clock - so right where you see it - doh! Couple of weeks and it'll have worn away. Pity it was such a filthy day too - as the car looks boggin after just 50 miles! £42 to fill it with Optimax - eek! Anyhoo, can't wait till tomorrow and get back out again. Tried reading the instructions about the auto/semi auto and standard AC. How f*cking confusing is that? Surely it goes colder in the summer than the 20-30 degree range indicated? Am I just being thick? The replacement WR Sport oval sounds the mutts - very very pleased with that too. Anyhoo, back to the manual for some light reading! It was sad saying cheerio to all those MINI2 forum folk last night, but hey - this place aint too bad!

;-)

Daves99

Welcome to the world of SL ownership - not many of us that have gone the (soft) luxury route! The 1,000 mile service is free of labour The supplying dealer pays it) but not parts - many people have bought their own oil and filter and provided it to save money but I couldn;t be bothered so actually paid £59 for it. Nice and cheap oil!!! That said, the dealer (Bell & Colvill who do not seem to have a good name on this forum) were exellent. Washed the car and sorted out a few issues that the supplying dealer rufused to authorise (another story!!!) for free. They didn't have to do that, so I am grateful.

DBB - my user manual still shows the MY04 dashboard hence they talk about semi-suto as that is what it was in the MY04 - the MY05 went to fully automatic. The system works on the fact that the lowest setting (fully left) pumps out max A/c. Ditto for the far right setting, so you'll be using that when needed. Incidentally. the a/c also turns off on full acceleration, then back on again when lifting off. I used to enjoy doing it on my MY00 with very cold air turning warm for a millisecind on a long hard acceleration.

Have fun chaps...

I have a MY04 WRX and had the same steering wheel alignemnt problem. Tell them as soon as possible, as you will otherwise end up paying for alignment. I didn't tell them immediately and was lucky to get it done (nice dealer, did it as goodwill gesture). I was told Subaru wouldn't pay for it if not reported at 1k service.

Cheers

Goes in this Friday for the 1,000 miles service at last. Things to be done:

Wipers are shocking - I don;t think they cleaned the wax off properly and the wipers squeak and smear loads

Steering wheel (now three spoke) is not on straight. It's not off by much, as in a PDI would not pick it up, but I paid a lot of dosh for the car and I want it straight. IN a straight line on a flat road, the wheel is kinked slightly and that bugs me

Headlamp alignment is out (but as I have now found out readin up , you have to remove the headlamps to change the sidelight bulbs which equates to needing a headlamp alignment. I haven't done this (they were out since new) BUT can you beleive that to change a sidelight bulb needs a dealer to level your lamps. That's cack!

Few rattles that seem to have gone, but then my car is an SL so the leather took time to settle.

Red brake calipers now grey due to brake dust as I slowly bed the brakes in. Not cleaned it on 1,000 miles though so it needs it. Wonder if the dealer will... we'll see.

Good luck,
Andy

Thumbs up MY05 WRX SL PPP

Alright fellas,

I have done 1300 miles now - had my ppp done on Friday last week. Love the car completely - ppp is the boll@cks.

I agree with all comments concerning the turd wipers, though. Red callipers still looking fine, although they need brake dust removing frequently.

Happy Driving

Got my WRX on Friday - loving it so far - had the 18" Anthracire OZ Prodrive wheels fitted from new - pics in the gallery

No compaints so far, no squeaks or rattles and the car feels very solid / tight and planted. Getting PPP at the the first service and can't wait !

Wink 05 Grey STi

Had my STi now for 5 days now, based on the comments already given here I'm going to give mine a thorough inspection at the weekend to make sure I've not missed anything due to being mesmorised just standing there looking at it.
Only issues so far are the crap speakers and tight gearbox especially when cold.
Going up north for christmas, so an opportunity to get some of those 1000 miles on it.

Well I went yesterday to get my 1k mile done - cost £36 (took an hour).

In the past five and a bit weeks I've clocked up 1,250 miles averaged 23.6 mpg (using SO or whichever local SUL I can get).

Problems - nothing other than the well documented wipers (utter crap) and speakers (horrendous). No rattles, squeaks or bits falling off yet - which is nice. Stone chip on the trailing edge of the bonnet - touch up on order with dealer. Nothing else to report - which is good.

Eased myself above 4,000 rpm twice on the way home last night - sounds superb, but maybe wasn't really necessary! Need to have a look at the torque and power graphs - where exactly is the peak on a standard MY05 WRX?

Give it a couple of weeks and I'll probably be rattling it round the rev-band!

The Mrs loves the car like no other I've had before - which makes things easier, and the fuel economy hasn't been any worse than we expected.

Cleaning it every weekend is as pointless as you can imagine but I still do it - roll on the spring and some (dry'ish) weather!

Hi Andy

That's about 24/25MPG...

Tell me about the Alpine head unit.... I pick my MY05 up next week and have already ordered an Alpine CDA 9835 HU to go in her... Any difficulties making the switch? What have you got in the empy bit of the double din hole? any chance of a pic of the installation?

Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul

My Alpine is a fairly old one (bought in 2001) but was very high spec then so no need to change (love that about decent hi-fi's - good ones last way longer) - and went in fine. Pretty easy to fit as you need a connecting block (ie no wiring to cut) and all worked fine - illumination dims with lights etc, radio FM and AM work fine (given both of these aerials are in glass) and they fitted a cubby hole (that was unfortunately one that held CD's) when I have a 12 disc stacker in the spare wheel well. Will take a pic later and post here for you.

Makes all the difference - do hope you are changing the speakers though, as they are definately the weak link in the whole set-up. Literally cardboard - I reckon Blue Peter could do better with a packet of Frosties!

Andy

PS With PPP fitted mpg now down to about 21'ish. Not that impressed with this element of PPP, given my APS kit fitted on my MY00 in Melbourne took 215bhp up to 285bhp and mpg stayed pretty much the same!

That looks mighty clean AndyC. I like the blue mats too.

What kind of gear **** is that you've got installed? I don't really like the stock one. Bit too small for my liking.

Edit: Wait a minute. That's 1-6, that'll be an STI then. Is that what it comes with on the STI?

It's the standard '05 STI gearknob - previous years' STIs had a black leather one with the shift pattern embossed into it.
