not a fan of small number plates, but can't automatic cameras take photos of motorbike plates? If so, why not allow them on cars too?

And if they can't read bike plates, thats crap.

I suppose the common sense action if you are stopped on the hard shoulder is to stand on the side which is farthest away from the traffic. You'd be appreciably further away from the traffic. Certainly more that the 3 feet 3.6 inches you mentioned.

Might be worth remembering that tip if you decide to continue with illegal numberplates and get stopped again. So much easier to stick with what the law says though.

Two things **** me off about motorists & yes I know they are only minor offences but even so I would [Keegan]LOVE IT LOVE IT[/Keegan] if they were strictly enforced.

One is illegal spacing & characters on number plates.

Two is incorrect use of front fog lights.

Rant over.

Small plates look crap IMO, bought by chavs for their Nova's.

Is'nt this a case of each to their own opinion?

I think one of the points being - they should have better things to do with their time.......

OK look at it like this as well....a member of your family gets knocked down by a car with an illegally sized numberplate, witnesses see it happen and all they can say is it was a red car, but i couldn't read the numberplate as the lettering was too small, or i couldn't read the numberplate because the letters were all joined up and unclear.

What can the police do to help catch the person who did it in that situation? When a witness may have been able to read a legal numberplate without any problems?

If you are going to run with an illegal numberplate then you can expect to be stopped at some point, sooner or later, even more so in these days of ANPR as well. Accept it, the same as if you are driving round breaking the speed limit, law of probablity says that you will get caught at some point.

The other point is you break the law, you know you are breaking the law, it's no good moaning about it when you get caught
It's like speeding i am not saying i don't but if i was caught i wouldn't come on here moaning about it

I have completely legal letters and sizes, however instead of S60 0BD, I have it spaced
S600B D, with no dodgy screws or anything just as it is.

Now if I witnessed an accident, I would remember S600B D much easier than S60 0BD, so if anything it makes people notice even more.

Ian would ANPR sytems be able to read my plate the way it was spaced? I guess it should be able to.

I understand it's not correct, so expect my £30 fine sometime soon!!

You plate will be S60 OBD not 0BD

With regards to the remembering, you would only remember it more because it relates to 'Scoob' a general member of the public will not relate to it in that way, and it could still cause them considerable confusion.

As i said to you before you bought it thought Steve, and you were aware expect your fine at some point, and dont forget that the DVLA can and will remove 'cherished registration marks' from people.

I got pulled on Saturday night for exactly the same thing mate. Thats four times in two years although only been fined twice.

They confirmed they were having a massive clamp down although my letters are only half an inch off or something. Decided enough was enough and will be changing back to a standard plate now (although getting one seems to be a job in itself these days-want utility bills and passports etc)

I accept that it is illegal and you take your chance. What you dont need is the bloody clever attitude that seems to come as part of the job with some of them. He was a right c*nt.

Is it just a slap on the wrist and a fine ? i got told they would take my plate off me if i was caught again, but in the end i got nothing from them so i guess it was just scare tactics from some lazy filth who didnt want the paperwork.

The plate is just an excuse, it's more likely they're amazed to see that Martin Fowler can afford a WR1

Your plate can be taken off you, after all what is the best evidence possible rather than the plate. The DVLA can also as i said previously take the 'cherished registration mark' off you as well.

It isn't just scare tactics, and i know several officers who have and will not hesitate to remove the plates as evidence.

I think it was an R reg Cavalier, bergundy/red colour. I wasn't as up on car models back then though, and the large Vauxhalls of that era look so similar.
