Insurance Subaru Impreza insurance can be expensive, as with any performance car insurance. But the cheapest car insurance isn't always the best. Share your quotes, and experiences.

The sticking point appears to be "performance" mods - the word was used several times when I spoke to them. That's why Crockel had no problem: backbox alone is OK. But if you did the full system then I'd expect them to complain. If it WAS the whole system then they may have mis-heard.

I have looked at the actual wording on the insurance documents- under details of vehicle it states:

'The Subaru Impreza Turbo Terzo AWD has the following modification (s):

Exhaust modifications'.

That's all it says

Over a year ago though.

Default exhaust mods on Evo8

Just as an update, phoned LV yesterday to add exhaust mods to my EVO8, they said " we have a new directive on mods, please wait while I contact the underwriter to approve ", was put on hold for a couple of minutes, after which I was told " No problem, the underwriters have accepted it, we will update your details, no extra charge "

It seems every mod is taken on it's own merits, and includes your driving record etc.

Have just spoken to LV - was pleasantly suprised at their quote but as soon as I mentioned I had a different backbox they said they couldn't insure me.

Totally gutted, esp, as they said they didn't care about how many points you have.

After reading this thread got alittle worried so rang them couple of days ago.

Now my renewal is end of Jan05 and when I stated mods after a few moments on hold they said it was fine due to the fact I started my policy back in Jan04

But if it had been a new policy then they said I would have been stuck

Phew at least the modding can continue

PS anyone wanting cheap insurance friend of mine (daveggt off here) gave me asda. They do online qoutes and seem very competitive.

If it hasnt already been said on this thread somewhere its worth considering that with L&V you get free track day cover, important to some, and you also get 180 days euro insuarance for free.

L&V have now changed their policy, all new policies will NOT accept modifications, I've got 8 years no claims, no conviction/points(Touch wood) with a '96 WRX (JDM) and they wouldn't accept the stainless steel Hayward and Scott system, is the car was bog standard, it wouldn't be a problem, I called them yesterday for a quote

But they are continuing to cover and re-cover existing customers with mods .........

I've not phoned them yet but can I clarify peoples thoughts - I've been with them a couple of years now, went with them originally because I had the PPP on my MY02 WRX, as usual the comment the was "fine so long as the CC doesn't increase."

I've swapped and changed a bit on the car front and I now have a standard Evo 8 260. Gonna want an exhaust, filter and an ECU update to get the power up soon.

Do people reckon I'll be ok sticking with L&V as an existing customer or am I going to have to plan to shop around?

Guess the answer is to get off my **** and call them... :-)

Cheers,
Richard.

Richard
see my post as above, changed from my Impreza (full decat, 17's) to a UK supplied Evo VIII 280 (03 model), in early november. Have just fitted magnex exhaust to the EVO and LV were fine with it, no extra premium, and now I have the updated paperwork, stating modifications as "exhaust mods".
I have insured with them for 4 years, I now pay £600 for the Evo insurance, £160 more than the UK Impreza.

Thumbs down

Think you may find that with L&V you're OK with mods as an existing customer with your EXISTING policy.

I am an existing customer and changed my motor in November so got a new policy with them.... I was informed that if I mod the new motor they WILL have to cancel the new policy Asked for clarification and this was confirmed by their underwriters.
