Peanuts, if I've got this wrong, excuse me as I've been working long hours and am generally a bit knackered lately. As I understand it you seem to have something in writing to say that your modifications are covered? Try putting yourself in the position of those of us who've been, in theory, insured with L.V. for our modded cars for the last few months, but have nothing in writing to show for it.....this despite making vigourous enquiries with regard to rectifying this situation. I'm not going to be at all impressed if, in future, I have a claim rejected on the basis that I have no written proof of cover for mods, even though I've payed the premium in full, and been told on the 'phone that I'm covered. Don't think it's unreasonable for people in my position to expect a representative of L.V. to publicly clarify the position, on this board, if need be......certainly for me, it's worrying that they feel that blithely insisting that " all mods are covered " on the 'phone should be all that's required.
Btw, don't think your scenario of claims being rejected based on the posts on here is very likely....my real name isn't Mr micared, and I don't imagine yours is Mr peanuts!

Tentenths, I was aware that most insurance companies record their calls, however, in my experience, this is not a failsafe method of avoiding mistakes. When Norwich Union backed out of the policy I had with them, I asked them to refer to calls made at the time the policy was taken out, only to be told that the tapes were unable to be found! When paying for a service, I don't expect to also have to explain to the provider how to avoid mistakes being made, or how to best provide the service they set themselves up in business to profit from, or to have to record calls in case they turn out to be inept. I'd like, as I have explained to them on a number of occassions, to have something in writing......there is legally no substitute. As things stand, they have my money, I have no written proof that it is providing me with the cover I require.

If you're that unsettled by the whole LV experience surely you should vote with your feet?

Tentenths, I wasn't answering a question you had posed, rather stating the position as I see it. Sorry if you have an issue with that. As you say, if things aren't resolved satisfactorily, voting with my feet may be the only option.

I've just been told by LV that the only import Impreza they will ensure as from April this year is a 2 door so newly imported STis are out of the question.
Yes I do have my current modified UK Impreza insured with them and have done for the last three years but they refuse to quote me on any import other than a 2 door.
I explained that the new Imprezas are 4 door only and that I would have to get a quote elsewhere and that my UK is up for renewal in December and I would take this business elsewhere guess what they said...................we cannot insure any imports other than a 2 door.
Took my business elsewhere - Try giving Olly a ring at A Plan, great service and it sounded like he actually knew what he was on about.

Not sure what the hells going on here but I have just had a new quote from L&V and im not an existing policy holder, I asked the questions about modifications (I have 2002 wrx with new wheels , bodykit, grills and exhaust) the only one she had to go and ask about was the exhaust which they didnt care about due to the power increase being less than 5%. She said they are not at all bothered by any of the mods and dont need details because it is not a question they ask for the quotes. There must be some other issues with some of you and your cars?
Quote was £749 fully comp with protected NCD for modified 2002 WRX on driveway, age 30 Y/O (Hope nobody from our club reads this!). I think that is a brill quote and beats anyone else iv tried by £200.
Mick
And yes i will be insuring with them.

L&V won't PPP
Got my WRX insured with L&V a couple of weeks ago. Just phoned them to see if they would cover PPP and no, they won't! I should have asked the question before I got a policy with them I guess but it's bloody annoying! Especially as I already ordered PPP from the dealer. Looks like I'm going to have to cancel, other quotes are silly considering I've got 9 years no-claims.
This has not made my day!

I've just spoken to them about getting a PPP for my 02 WRX. I'm 43, in a lowest crime area, with nine years+ no-claims. This is what I was told after the woman spoke to the underwriters:
As of today (19th Nov) RLV will no longer insure new customers with mods apart from things like a sunroof or a towbar. Existing customers will remain insured, but will not be allowed any more mods apart from the same sort of thing - my PPP will not be allowed. They will be able to renew with existing mods. She was not certain if this edict would be issued in writing.

I'm probably being a bit impatient though, maybe be better for me to get to know the car for a bit longer before PPP'ing it anyway!
How does that song go? 'Always look on the bright side of life...' ;-)

I just had to ditch L&V yesterday when they threatened to cancel my 4 month old policy if I put a new exhaust onto my car.
http://forums.sidc.co.uk/messageview...threadid=27120
I was told flat out that the only acceptable modification is alloy wheels.
I'm now with privilege and I am much happier.... and better off to. If I was you guys I would be very careful to continue using L&V.
More fool them though, they lost a customer yesterday with over 5 years NCB. Not exactly a 'risk'.

Just rang them, they wont insure my car with a Stainless Exhaust or upgrade to a MY 00 rear spoiler, because their policy on Modifications has changed in the last week.
But 18" Alloy wheels would be an OK mod.

Several of you have mentioned the fact that mods or extra mods will not now be allowed, what bothers me is how can liverpool and victoria regulate this decission when they dont reccord the mods youve already got as long as they dont increase the engine size. So how could they possibly say what was an existing mod and what is a new mod?

Just to add to the general fun...I also Insure with L&V.
On the 17th November I rang them up and said 'I want to fit a Prodrive exhaust system to my Terzo today- any problems?'
Answer:'No sir, no extra premium, I will amend your policy and send it out to you.' Two days later sure enough the Insurance documents are on the doormat listing the exhaust modifications.'
Great service for me- complete inconsistency though looking at the way others have been treated.

I insured a MY04 PPP car in August with L&V - no problem. I had nothing on my documents to say that the PPP was ok - but was told the usual stuff on the phone '..as long as the cc stays the same etc etc .....'
Anyway, after reading this thread I phoned them up again and asked them to check that I was insured with the PPP. They said yes, but could not put it in writing as their system does not take that information down (the same for parking car in garage - they do not record that either so have no way of putting it in writing) ...
However, they said they believed that the overall risk (and hence cost) of insuring a WRX was going up and therefore new customers were likely to get a worse deal than people like me ...... (I wonder what I will be offered next year ??!)....
Any - just some info for ya !

L&V seem great - just got a quote, £429.
Although its higher than last years £399 from Norwich Union I suppose I have to suffer for those who can't drive properly
Anyway, it includes Business Travel too! seems a good deal then?

What I can gather from this is that existing customers like myself can carry on modding their cars except for engine size and new customers will not get the same deal, I have no mods listed with them as they told me It will not list mods but to photograph them if i wanted to claim for them, now that doesnt bother me as all my mods are second hand and relatively cheap, what would annoy me is not being able to insure with mods
