LOL! And I made it a public vote so I could weed out those voting for option 1 just to annoy me!

I would have said that if it was a bloke, was not gender biased.

I sometimes wonder what they teach kids at school these days, do they not have basic IT lessons?

Question

How do you start a poll anyhow? I've never noticed any way of doing this, not that I've looked that hard mind.

There is a "Post a Poll" option towards the bottom of the form when you start a new thread! Tick that, fill in the number of options and when you submit the message it takes you onto more options.

Scroll down the page when you are posting a new thread, and you get an option to post a poll

To stop it re-occuring in the future....

I suggest replacing your "IN" tray or pidgeon hole with a paper shredder

I hate paperwork

She doesn't sound THAT incompetent. I insisted a secretary type out her mission budget predictions on a spreadsheet, rather than Word, so we could see how/if they change. She typed in:

Plane Ticket 250
Hotel 60
Taxi 25
Total

...then got out her desktop calculator, added it up, and duly typed 335 in the Total cell

We had an IT Manager that did that (Same company as Carl the tw@t) - No wonder I fairly shone in that company

I did toy with the idea of setting Adobe PDF writer as her default printer so she was forced to save her work one way or another.... but the thought of her hanging around the printer for hours waiting for it to come out, followed by the inevitable whinging call through to the IT dept (i.e. MY dept) was just too much to bear!

Of course the real answer here is to avoid the petty point scoring office politics and sort the problem at the core.

You say she does this sort of thing over and over again so why did you let her do this knowing full well something like this was likely to happen?

To me it sounds like you need to get her some proper training and if she doesn't respond to that get rid as she is not helping you or herself to be honest. I know you will say you've had no formal training so why should she, but just maybe (and this is a big leap of faith ) you have more of an aptitude for working with computer applications than she does.

Having said that maybe she knows how to do simple jobs like hang curtains eh?

Regards,

tiggers.

I might have known you'd have looked up "diverting blame onto the victim" in your handbook for Devil's Advocates! You then turn up late on your vulgar American mountain standard time or whatever you are on, stirring up trouble, dissent and general unrest!

As for her training/employment, that is nothing to do with me. I am not her line manager, I just have access to her as a resource. Personally I don't ever employ anyone for any desk job without either computer skills or the intelligence to aquire computer skills no matter what. Unfortunately the bloke who did hire her is also a luddite and is also on my "hit list" as a consequence.

Already been there.... she was one of the coven of witches that was taking delight in feeding me duff curtain information! What goes around.....

Actually I was just giving you an honest answer. It may sound simple, but to me you want to get any job done as simply and efficiently as possible. What you described is a classic case of the way office politics can produce an inefficient working environment. This is often a result of people being placed in roles for which they are either not suitable or have not been trained properly to do and this seems to be the case here. Her not you by the way

Please accept my apologies for the misunderstanding. I think it is just that you present yourself as so intellectually superior to everyone else on here that I couldn't possibly imagine you not being the managing director of your own company and hence in charge of everyone you work with

Ever stopped to ask yourself why she may have done that

Why thank you tiggers, and I know compliments don't pass your lips easily!

No need. She was almost certainly trying to get me back for having all web traffic for the Big Brother website forwarded to an Obfuscated Perl site throughout the summer!
