*I* also agree with Tony, it would need to be a significant increase in gain to justify the significant increase in price of equal and unequal length tubular headers.
and depsite myths to the contrary, Ive yet to see a back to back test that will show an improvement from unequal tubular to equal tubular.

oh yes equal length have no bearing on power/torque at all guess someone will have the tell the WRT that they got it wrong then.

LOL.. where did i say that your headers were crap. I was considering buying them, would i do that if i thought they were crap or the price was high . I thought the price was low if anything and would have loved to have had them but for what i wanted i decided against it.
As for which is best that's a whole different kettle of fish. Do not make the mistake of thinking that if the SWRT use something it makes a good selection for a road car. It simply doesn't, do you run a 32mm restrictor, do the SWRT runs engines of 500bhp, do you run 3bar boost??? SWRT got it right for a WRC rally car........
Sorry to take the thread of topic (which is why i suggested e-mail).
Tony.

Cheers Andy.
****, i may even go do something to the car tomorrow.
Need some jubilee clips to secure wrap to headers, think i need a swanky socket for doing the spark plugs too...

Thanks for the offer Andy but don't worry about them just now. I just need 5/6 jubilees to secure the ends. Dad has some locking wire he reckons he's fairly handy with that will be used to secure the 'body' of the wrap. I dunno, these damn aircraft engineers.

Gotta Love Parents...
So there i've been, absolutely bricking it since Tuesday because the Defi gauges i ordered on the 28th of February hadn't arrived. Been having panic attacks because the supplier had changed his email and cashed my cheque - but no gauges!!
So alas, yesterday while helping little Sis move house we miss a parcel. This jogs Dads memory into action and lo and behold the Post Office are holding one for me. He points me in the direction of the missed-parcel coupon and it says they tried to deliver it on the 11th Feb!!! So i dash off to the Post Office under the impression they only hold parcels for one week. Visions of my gauges being on a plane bound for Japan in my head...
All i can say is thank **** they hold recorded parcels for three. I don't think i would have had enough string otherwise.
Reckon you can beat the price i paid for these Russ?

The car's been long overdue some attention and now the nights are beginning to get lighter i thought i'd have a day away from the lathe.
First priority was to find and try and fix the fuel 'leak'. I'd filled the tank up 10 minutes beforehand to try and make any leak as obvious as possible. Seeing as it only started happening following fitment of the Walbro i thought i'd check the gasket first. Good guess.
Whipped the gasket out and initially thought it looked ok. When i looked a little closer however i saw one of the holes for the stud had landed on the rim of the tank. I've tried to draw roughly what i found in green as it didn't show up too well in the picture. Tbh i'm a bit pissed off with myself for not getting something so basic right first time.
Anyway, stuck the gasket under a warm lamp for a couple of hours, refitted and went for a drive. Sloshed the fuel about as much as possible and there are no obvious signs of leakage. I guess it's really one for time to tell though.
So the next job was to try and tidy the dash a little. Lambda Link has never really look very happy were it was and Commander has been sitting jarred between the gearstick and dash since Andy put it there.
1. So, whip out a vent and pull Lambda wiring through.
2. Remove insides.
3. Stick down Lambda Link.
4. Plug in and refit.
Almost too easy. And the dash will go back as it was intended when the time comes, i.e. no butchering required.
A quick wipe down of the dash and Commander with some white spirit, stick on some velcro and tada!
So, Defis next. Inline fuel pressure fitting.
Sender in.
Total destruction.
Managed to keep the wider Control Unit 2 under the armrest by sticking it to the opposite side the Control Unit 1 was stuck to.
Frustrating thing about fitting Defis is the fun part is the last part.
But i was cocky putting the centre console etc together before testing. Turned out my earth and illumination bulleted connections to the stereo wires had come apart since i fitted the original gauges. Probably something to do with the power cable only just being long enough to reach the CU2...
And finished!
ON
OFF
All in all i've had a great day today. November was the last time i actually did any work on the car, i'd forgotten how much i enjoyed it and how satisfying it is. Couldn't believe how much i got done in such a short space of time either.
Hopefully tomorrow i'll get the water hose changed out so i can move the old Defis on. May even look at getting the spark plugs in and then i need to get sorted out with a smaller charge temp gauge so i can experiment.

Looks well Carl; just one point:
When I changed my pump fpr the Walbro, the pressureised feed pipe to the engine off the tank cover has a screw type clamp, not one of the 'squeeze to remove' types.
Just a thought.
Look forward to the next 2005 phase of mods!

Mine has the crappy push-fit one, it takes some effort to get it on so i've no concern about it leaking. Perhaps it was the JDM's that got the screw type?
Been out for a spin tonight. Peak boost was 1.4bar with peak fuel pressure 4.8bar (set to 3bar with vac pipe fitted). So that leaves a nice margin, i'd rather a fraction more than less.
The Commander needs to be angled towards me as i can't make out the display from where it's positioned. Lambda Link is ace though.

lambdalink installed in drivers vent
and unnervingly easy to do as well.
I took the precaution of taping over what was left behind of the ventilation with some heavy duty masking.

Need to buy a smaller one. Was hoping my Lascar one would sell quickly but looks like it'll be taking up space for a while yet! Was going to dump the AVC-R where the Lambda Link was for the time being.

im tempted to buy your gauge actually but Im waiting on a paypal deposit from elsewhere first
I tried speaking to jap-innovations about the mrt cubby display (similar to defi but flat topped and not cut out for gauges) but they just kept directing me to the website and I couldnt navigate to it no matter how I tried.
I fitted 18's yesterday and they suck

OZ marked prodrive WRC1's ? if there is such a thing. ???
they suck
road noise is the aboslute pits, going to try to slightly over inflate them see if that helps, rears now have a 3mm spacer on the hubs.
borrowed while a mate borrows my 16's OE and another my 17's OZ super leggs
tbh, when all this is over Im going to stick to 16" OE spec wheels, no more kerbing worries, cheaper tyres, no fitment "issues" and I can punt out all the others and treat myself to that stiV inverted suspension set up Im after

Lascar gauge gone and Nomad one ordered. Even managed to negociate a discount on postage because their website has some 'niggles'. Rose joints ordered also.
Changed out the water pipe and fitted the plugs today. Was halfway round when i remembered i'd forgotten to gap them. All done now though and gapped to 0.5mm. Anyone know the correct torque setting for fitting them first time?
Old and new, PFR6B and PFR7B.
Oh yeah, and got the jubilees today for wrapping the headers.

Then fitted 04 STi Brembos & STi wheels with 225/45/17 RE040s. The different offset (et53 from Turini's et48) then caused the rear tyres to rub on the strut. Fitted 3mm spacer and it's now back to catching the wheel arch under load (as you know Andy ) Tramlining is much better although still get a little.
Next move will be either 215 or 205 section tyres on the STi wheels. Until then, I can't do anything about lowering ride height.

Wheel thing is interesting.
Had (have) P1 17's with the Kumho 205 x 40 x 17 dead straight fit, impeccable road manners, NO issues (except getting them balanced well enough)
Running stock Sti 16's, 205 x 45 x 16 with Kumhos and the car is so good. Lighter too!
Being painted a very dark green (black?) gives the car an attitude look.
Wish it had Gerry's cars attitude! (2.5......)

looking good i''ve come up with a solution for the fc commander fitting, i'm going to get an air vent mobile phone holder, and hey presto, an fc commander holder fully adjustable for viewing angle
