bash,

there are four wires going to the clock:

LR = Power, always on.
YG = Ignition, lights up the clock when the ignition is turned on.
V = Control, dims the clock when the headlights are on.
B = GND, earth.

If you stick a voltmeter on the control wire you should see that it is at 0V when the lights are off and 12V when the lights are on. The ignition will have to be ON for this test.

Thumbs up A few pics for now

Hi all,

Here are the pics of my gauges installed

Sorry for the delay.
Tomorrow I'll give you the details about the fitting, don't have time to write a long post at the mo...

Enjoy! (note the oil temp and pressure not 100% plumbed in yet)

Sorry about the poor quality pics. They did not look too bad on my digital camera on the weeny little preview screen

I'll take some pics today in the light of the day

The fitting was a little complicated as the gauges were too big for the pod really. It is probably not immediately clear from the pictures, but the gauges had to be mounted behind the face plate rather than in it. Therefore you can't see the silver surround. It does not look as bad as you would expect as the gauges have a convex front and therefore do not look too deep set in the pod.
The face plate is angled toward the driver and from the drivers seat they look great
I think the pod is quite discreet and matches the dash very nicely, it is a shame the gauges do not fit it perfectly

Thanks mplaczek,

I'm also going for the subaru pod, although my homemade faceplate will be mounted flat, so I'll be investigating ways of tilting the gauges towards the driver today.

I found something useful last night - how to remove the clock:

http://www.warnockinc.com/Projects/G...ngInstall.html

(1) Remove the cup holder
(2) Remove the vent surround, (but not the lower surround)
(3) Manipulate the two front clips on the clock surround to remove it

The rear clips pop out with a bit of force, but the front ones are very tight.

Ok, here are some non-blurry daytime pictures.

Ignition off:

Ignition on:

bash, I flicked the lights on and off. The gauges do dim and brighten respectively, however it does not look like there is a great difference. Perhaps in the evening the difference would be more apparent.

Jiggerypokery, good luck with the newage pod . I think it looks great
However If I wanted it done again, I would get the face plate made up as you are doing. I think it will make the whole job a lot easier and it would probably look a little better too. Post some pics when you are done so I can be jealous
The OEM face plate was engineered to tilt the gauges, however it needed to be machined a little so that these larger gauges would do the same.
The only tip I can offer you is to remember that the gauges can not physically fit in the aperture at the front of the pod. Therefore the tilt will have to be the right side of the gauge receding into the pod housing if you see what I mean...?!?

With the gauges and the AVIC-X1, my dash is looking less like a dash and more like a cockpit

Sod that

1) Put fingers under flap over clock
2) Pull hard
3) Clock comes out with pod attached

Well thats how I did it

Seriously, the back ones pull up, allowing you to free the front clips

Fitted my senders yesterday, had to remove the alternator and intercooler, but not a problem. I have been messing with the illumination and if you connect just the orange wire it is perfect for night time, so basically you need to power the illumination by the red wire for the day time and orange wire at night.

I've started to make my pod, and will hopefully have a prototype by the end of the weekend.

If you are happy with the gauges i've been asked if you can give Danny some feed back on his website.

1)if they are willing, simply go to the following URL for the smoked gauges:

http://www.xyberautos.com/catalog/pr...roducts_id=438

And the following URL for the EL Series gauges:

http://www.xyberautos.com/catalog/pr...roducts_id=413

2)Go to the right navigation panel, and click on the 5th panel to write a review.

Hello, I just received mine 2 minutes ago. Will have a go at fitting them at lunctime.

Quick question if anyone knows: there is about 10cm of braided hose and a hefty T piece, do these parts need to be filled with oil manually? If not, will they fill with oil when the engine runs?
Thanks.

Austen, does the temperature sensor screw 'all the way' into the adapter, or is the adapter tapered? Thanks.

What sort of price wouldthese cost to have fittted and would it be a specialist, DIY auto-elec

Initially orders are for sets of 3 as this is my basis to agree a price, the price per set of 3 guages including p&p will be £89

These gauges will be imported from abroad and we will have 2 months in which to return them if faulty (the units are factory tested).
Please note that import duty will try to be avoided but we may end up being liable for it, which would therefore have to be paid on collection.

If there is enough interest i will try and negotiate a discount on pods aswell.

Reply to the thread and add your name, which series of gauge you want, which gauges and what pod (if any) you require)

I don't know as my temperature sender was missing. I am awaiting a replacement. I currently have the adaptor bung fitted with a blocking off bolt fitted.

Another question!

Was your pipe long enough or did you have to use an extension? Which hole did you use in the firewall?
Thanks again.
