project 22B - almost at the end
for interest sake, I decided in order to preserve longevity of the engine I would rather drop the boost targets to say 1.6 to 1.8 bar.
with that in mind it was almost pointless having a turbo whose output I barely ever use, so against my better judgement, Tweenie rob has convinced me to put on a GT30R instead of the GT35/40 that has been making the figures.
Apparently this turbo is still good for 500bhp, though I fail to see how given that it is smaller in so many ways (unless I was way off the limit of the 35/40). Spool should be significantly improved and peek torque which was about 510 on the rollers (almost 560 on the engine dyno
) may well not be affected much.
It shoudl make for a much faster car on the road with far less lag yet still capable of blowing me away.
I was a little dubious about not having the punch in the back and the top end power, but I guess if I want the engine to last longer that is something I have to let go of. I know what it is capable of holding, so should be relieved I have a small safety net. (fingers crossed).
I thought it worth swapping toa 2 inch slip jointed uppipe at the same time, so had one made after removing the old turbo. so far it hasnt fitted, so I have to refit the old one and drive it to have the 2 inch pipe made with access to the car to get it spot on.
Then it is remap time.

Bob, you are the first to say that, but it is why i originally went with a 2.5.
The uppipe flange on mine is 2 inches, and if you consider the ratio of areas between a 2 inch and the standard uppipe, proportionally compared with peoples results on the standard it should be good to flow well over the 500bhp I should need it to.
Pavlo managed 550bhp with a 2inch uppipe and I believe andy told me once that he thought it would be fine.
That said I wouldn't happily dismiss a comment like that from you. You have any experience to suggest it isn't going to be big nough because I would rather not take a step backwards, I was just hoping to aid spool since I seem to be heading more toward drivability at the expense of outright power. That said it was still making well over a bar at 3400 on the 35/40, but the boost rise was so steep (intentional) it is quite difficult to quanitify exactly.

Correct Adam, I use a 2" uppipe which optimises spool up and doesn't do the power output much harm either
As you are aware, going fast is all about the area under the power curve, not peak numbers.
