yes its an FSE, it seemed to be overfueling badly only when on boost, after checking every intercooler pipe was tight the problem was still their.

started looking at the map sensor and pipes, alan has the apexi one on but it was not in use so i pulled the vacuum pipe off the pressure reg and fitted it to the apexi sensor and switched it on via the commander.

car ran spot on, fixed i thought, faulty map sensor!

got a t to run another pipe to the reg, ran it up the road again and the fault had came back!

disconnect the vacuum pipe and it went away!

new reg needed.

it has a gauge on and was reading everything ok at idle 3bar with pipe off.

How well will a standard car run with the vacum pipe disconnect.
I've got a collegue who has a running problem, after reading this and doing alot of other part substitution it may also be the fuel pressure regulator.

If I remember right the FPR increases pressure at 1psi for each psi of boost (although not sure if the standard one does this).

Having never had the reason or indeed the urge to 'Yet' mess with FPR's......If he were to run with the vaccum off would it run O.K (ish) i.e enough to diagnose if it was at fault.

The car runs sort of O.K off-boost, the problem seems alot worse the higher the boost gets. Plus it does it on standard map and revised map. More so on the remap, but then this is 'requesting' more boost and more fuel, so may exagerate the problem.

Coil packs have not yet been ruled out, but at £70 each from Subaru there a bit pricey if it does'nt fix it.

its ok as a "try and see" but i wouldn't run like that all the time!

does it overfuel???

alans car had lots of black smoke (fuel) when under boost but was ok at vacuum.

It either misses, feels like the fuel pump has switched off or backfires like it's got antilag when boost goes above 0.5bar.

cheers Jonny,

I think I have a spare here, but not 100% as it would be off my old MY94 which I havn't had for 18 months.
The guy with the problem lives down in Littlehampton, so I may point him your way.
