Stelvio Tour 2005
Whohoo - the Susten Pass is now open (this is apparently the best pass of them all). But the Grimsel pass isn't - See here
Also the weather is looking pretty good today - hope it keeps up for the next week

Will report in on the weather situation for France for the next couple of days but to be honest France meteo have been so far wrong all of last week it may not be reliable! Today was very hot (31+ in the shade) and the last 48hr forecast I saw said that it would be overcast tomorrow and stormy on Tuesday...but it changes so quickly as I don't think France Metro are on the ball!!
Is anyone else taking a tripod that I might be able to borrow occasionally? Mine's rather bulky and the boot is looking awfully full...
, and anyone else for that matter. chris.
Can't wait - car all packed and cleaned
SatNav playing up, though... Oh well, some "interesting" diversions all part of the holiday, I suppose!!
Cheers
Rog
Terry - thanks for PM re hotel - *think* I know where I'm going now lol!!

The score, weather-wise is that Monday should be overcast and dry with plenty of sunny spells (I'm only referring to the north-east and east of France as I'm assuming that's where you'll be on the road). Tuesday is going to be a bit showery with some sunny spells -- the main heavy thundery weather is in the south of France with chances of some thunder and lightning in the Picardie region (north, near Calais). Wednesday is looking a bit better with just a few showers and then by the end of the week things start to improve again. Temperatures are mostly around the 26 degree mark and above with it getting back to around the 29/30 degree mark at the very end of the week -- if they can accurately predict that far ahead. I watched the France Meteo forecast on the TF1 channel which wasn't that informative and then decided to go for something which is generally more accurate, La Chaine Meteo (The Weather Channel) on Canal Satellite. If any of the hotels you are staying in have Canal Satellite on offer, you'll find this channel on channel #33.
All in all, it looks like you are in for a fairly pleasant drive with some nice photo opportunities as the weather dictates!
Last thing to note, the E.Leclerc supermarket chain (France) have a fantastic offer on at the moment on Laurent Perrier champagne. This is usually knocked out at about €27 a bottle, this week it's on the shelves for €18.98 -- shame not to take advantage eh?
I dunno what day y'all are leaving but here's wishing you all a very safe and pleasant journey. Bonne route à tous and see you in Yverdon-les-bains on Wednesday!
PS. CharlieWhiskey, if you can't get hold of the sauce, no worries mate, honestly!

Have a good journey down Rog. I guess you're sailing from Edinburgh for the first leg of the jouney?
I have to go to work in the morning before setting off at about half 2 for Canterbury.
Gonna be a mad dash to get sorted in the morning
See you in France

Looking forward to seeing you too cw42. Shorts are well advised as it was boiling here today. I went to see this gig which was 10 minutes drive from me. It was the first drag-strip event to take place in Switzerland (on a public road) and the organization was overwhelmed with the response...the timing gear wouldn't work, the buffet was a disaster (3 girls to serve a few thousand punters) and they didn't get started until 1.5 hours later than expected. Next year will be a different matter I'm sure! I'll just post the URLs as I don't want to clog up the bandwidth on this thread with my nonsense
Nice Zonda though -- local bloke took her out for a whirl, and free entry

Oh, forgot to mention, the point of the above post was that I got sunburned watching the event and jeans would not have been the most confortable attire!

I also have a few bits like cable ties, jubilee clips & gaffer tape for any 'running repairs'

cw42: Yep, shorts are in order
See you tomoz, hope there's a big hole in your boot
Terry - see you at Farlington at 4am unless I hear from you otherwise. Just about ready, nearly finished the route on Destinator.
Safe journey to all those travelling down today, looking forward to meeting you all in the morning for breakfast.

YIKES!!!

Just drove past my local Shell garage and the price of V-Power 100 RON is now at a staggering CHF 1.99/litre - that's a 22 centime hike since last week!!! I've never seen prices that high before - used to think that CHF 1.32 was daylight robbery for 98 RON!!! Thank God I can save a bit on the champagne as compensation
