Matt, perhaps you should give me your 300 for a day and let me make an informed judgement

It's a 330, sure you can handle it?

Interestingly, even with 260bhp, they're quoting 0-62 times of 6.1 secs, which has to be a good half second off an impreza wrx MY03/04/05.
Mr Bru is my cousin, and shall be sampling my recently Pro-Drive spring'd MY04 tonight. All run in and ready for some fun. Unfortunately the engine is only got 1200 miles on the clock, so its not as quick as it should be. But its still fun.

and i'm quite surprised with the comments that the WRX is slow and boring... 0-62 in 5.5 secs is plenty quick for me. It reaches 100 quicker than I'd like, infact, generally I dont exceed 90 deliberately as I wanna hold onto my licence. It's quicker than my CTR, which was quicker than the MCS. that'll do me. i'd describe it as relaxingly quick rather than boring.

Believe me, the 260 is quicker than the WRX
Have had the privilege of owning an 03 WRX with PPP and my company car is a CTR. Bought a 260 5 months back to replace the WRX (which felt too baggy after the CTR and kept on picking up stone chips and dings due to utterly cr4p metalwork).
The 260 is a fair bit quicker once it gets going than even the WRX with PPP. The main difference though is how it can go around bends and that is where it would leave any Scoob I have driven for dead - it is just so much more planted and has much more grip. Sure the engine isn't as characterful as the Scoob and, as a day to day car, the WRX is easier to live with but the Evo is a much more focused performance car and feels in a different league when really pressing on.
The CTR now feels baggy after the Evo!

I wouldn't say the WRX feels baggy in comparison to a CTR. I put 27000 miles on my CTR before trading it in on the WRX and have never looked back.
The CTR is an exciting car to drive, full of drama and sensory overload. It feels very quick, largely because nothing happens till you hit 5500 rpm then all hell breaks loose for the next 2000 rpm. It feels and sounds fantastic. Its nice and light so it can turn into corners nice and sharp, and in the dry, with fresh tires, it grips very well. It's tiny steering wheel and firm suspension give it a real go-kart quality.
The downside to this is that it tends to want to wheel spin in almost any gear, especially in the wet, as soon as you try to accelerate hard. You constantly feel that the car is on the edge of its grip limit. You need to enter corners with the revs balanced at 5000 rpm so that you can get into the power band as you exit the corner. Therefore the slightest bit of uneven or slippery ground can cause the front end to lose grip, giving you a scare. This is made all the worse when you realise how much weight shifts to the back of the car under heavy accel, which in turn reduces the grip at the front. You have to drive with so much commitment that it makes any brisk drive a bit too exciting. A bit to nervy. Even driving in the wet at speed on the motorway can induce sweaty palms. Even just brisk acceleration for fun can be problematic given the high revs required. It makes jaunts around town feel like your driving a 1.6 base model, because theres no time to get into the power band.
It's a great car, but extracting the best from it is very taxing, and you find that you just don't do it as often as you'd like. I loved it for a few months when I got it, then the novelty wore off. I'd always recommend a Cooper S over a CTR in that price bracket now.
The WRX on the other hand does not feel fast. There is no real drama to the proceedings. It just goes. But. Regardless of how it feels. One look at the speedo shows it is fast. Effortlessly leaving the CTR in its tracks. There's no wheelspin, even in heavy rain. Theres no dramatic weight shift. It feels perfectly balanced, stable, refined, at any speed, no matter how hard you accelerate. It grips exceptionally well. Power can be applied much earlier than the CTR. And it does this to a beautiful burbble from that flat 4. It takes all the tension away. You feel totally confident, and relaxed. All thats left to do is have fun. I find my driving much quicker and much less stressful in the WRX.
It all depends what you want. If you want to go a little quicker, but at the expense of all that confidence and relaxation, then yes, maybe an FQ260 is what you need. But just because a WRX or WRX PPP doesnt feel fast, doesn't mean its not. It's just a great car for British roads.

is it correct that FQ is abbreviated - F&*kin Quick?
I was reading the review of the 320 vs Norris Evo in Japanese Performance last night. The 320 seemed a really well put together package.

Completely Chav thing to say, but has anyone noticed that if you want a decent spoiler on the Evo 260 , it will cost you £1900(allegedly), wheras Subaru only stung me for £850 to upgrade my WRX one. Incidently, as for the handling issue, I personally enjoy taking a completely mechanical car through a series of corners rather than be guided by a machine trying to do an impression of Gran Turismo 4

Just sold an Evo IV for a 03' WRX. You feel like you are in a much faster car in the evo, the seats grab you like god knows what and the doors ride higher, like being sat in an F1 car, ish. The scoob sounds 200x times better though and everything is smoother. Passers by prefer the EVO everytime though, kids shouted "Evo!!!!!!!!!!!" all the time but best I get in the Scoob is "*****."
