2 expereinces in this.
My boss at a previous company was legendary at dating womeon in the company, in the end it was his demise as the pillow talk ended his career there.
A friend started dating a man she worked with (in another department), the gossip and backstabbing got so bad she decided to leave so they could continue there relationship.
they are still together.
I think it depends on the 2 people involved and the type of environment. i would say small companies would be considerbly worse.
Good Luck, nothing like getting a BJ under your desk or in the car park

When I first read this my immediate reaction was going to be "yeah, definitely ask her out - what have you got to lose?" I'm really into the whole follow your dreams idea, and seize the day etc, but then I thought about it. You have to work with these people. I asked out two people where I used to work, one of which I did see for a little while, and the other one said no. The girl that said no was really cool about it as we were good friends before and it was a case of me mis-reading the signals. It didn't do any harm, and we are still in touch today and laugh about it.
It didn't work out with the girl that I actually went out with. Unusually for me, I finished it with her (!), and it was slightly awkward afterwards.
Neither of my cases ended with terrible consequences, but on the whole I just don't think it's worth the bother when, as others have said, there're plenty of girls outside the workplace. Also, word gets around and people start thinking of you as desperate etc when you keep asking all the girls out!
Unless you're really really into the girl, I'd save your efforts for elsewhere. But everyone's different and you have to make your own decisions. You might be missing out on the love of your life - sorry to confuse you even further!

Go for it!
Haven't read all the replies, but the worst case scenario is you mis-read her, and then you can just shrug it off anyway. Chances are unless she has a bloke she will say yes anyway. Why not just suggest a friendly drink rather than make it into a big first date type thing.....
Met my girlfriend of five years, she came to work in my old office, within two months she'd got rid of her kn0b of an ex boyfriend and here we are....
More is lost by indecision that wrong decision, mate!!!
Oh, and don't take no for an answer!

a lot - however the "plenty of girls elsewhere" thing doesnt work for me, Im crap at asking girls out, not a pub shark by any chance, welll not now - think I had bigger ***** when I was a nipper, or maybe drunk more Im not sure which - Anyway, I f-ing going for it and I dont care, Im 99% sure she s looking for a new job right now anyway so it wont matter anyway soon..........ha ha Ill let you know exactly how she sacks me off
